Chapter 513
Bailey patted Victoria's shoulder. “When it comes to people like him, you have to do things the hard
way. You won't win against him by playing dirty because he's better at it. Although, considering how
much he hates the Saunders family, are you two really going to free him from prison? There's no doubt
he'll cause plenty of trouble once he's out.”
Smiling bitterly, Victoria explained, “I promised him I would, and I intend to keep my word. However, if
he gets arrested again after being freed from prison, then I'll leave him to his fate. Whether he lives or
dies won't concern me anymore.”
Meanwhile, on the second floor of a coffee shop, next to a window, Clarence stared anxiously at the
young woman sitting opposite him and spoke carefully. “Z-Zoey, we—”
Zoey interrupted, “There isn't any relationship between us. Please refrain from spouting nonsense and
causing me problems, Mr. Jefferson.”
I can't believe he's trying to make me recognize him as my father when he's from an ordinary wealthy
family! What a joke! I accepted Sofie as my mother because that old bat can help me get everything I
want. On the other hand, this old fart can't give me anything. In that case, why should I recognize him
as my father?
An awkward expression flashed past his countenance. “Fine, fine, we don't have any relationship with
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇteach other at all. I just want to see you and ask you how you have been doing for all these years.”
Annoyance was visible on Zoey's face as she spat, “What do you think? I'm the daughter of the
Shurmer family, one of the Ten Acclaimed Socialites. People worship me, and many more are jealous
of me. How do you think I've been doing?”
In response, he smiled bitterly. Of course, he could tell the mockery in her tone. He wasn't an idiot, after
all.
What could the Jefferson family possibly give her that the Shurmer family couldn't?
“I'm glad that you're doing well, Zoey. Is there anything you need my help with?” Clarence inquired.
Zoey mulled it over when she heard that. Well, since he's offering his help, it'll be a shame if I don't
seize this opportunity. Even if he can't deliver a fatal blow to Bailey, I'll be satisfied if he can cause her
some trouble. After all, he's Bailey's... adopted father.
Thus, she requested, “Yes. Bailey's threatening my position and stole the man I love. She was the one
who ruined your daughter, Rhonda, right? Now, she's messing with me. Don't you think you should act
like a protective father and take care of that woman?”
Clarence frowned. She's right. Both of my daughters suffered because of Bailey. As a father, I should
seek justice for my daughters. “What do you want me to do?”
Shrugging, she informed, “It depends on you. I won't mind if you kill her since she's getting in the way
of your biological daughter.”
He responded with silence.
Upon seeing that, she stood from the couch, grabbed her bag, and headed to the exit. “That's all I have
to say. Do as you see fit. Bailey's my biggest stumbling block right now. If you want to help me, then get
rid of her.”
After Bailey bade Victoria goodbye, she returned to the Luther residence with Artemis.
On their way back, Bailey received a call from Veikko.
After he said something to her, her expression changed drastically.
She replied, “Okay, got it. I'll contact the person in charge over there later to understand the situation.”
Upon ending the call, she held her forehead, visibly troubled.
Artemis held the steering wheel with one hand and used his other hand to hold Bailey's hand. “What's
the matter? What happened?”
Pursing her lips and gritting her teeth, Bailey answered, “There's a bloody conflict in Gregan's branch.”
Artemis was momentarily stunned before he stared at her dubiously. “Eh?”
“The Saviors and Tarragon started a fight in Gregan. Many died. Both organizations already regard
each other as arch-enemies, and now, their conflict has intensified. Do you think the heavens also
disapprove of our relationship, Artemis?”
Artemis couldn't help questioning, “What nonsense are you saying? Their conflict has nothing to do
with us being together.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmA bitter smile formed on Bailey's face. “Do you really believe that? But we...”
We are the leaders of those two factions.
She didn't want to complete her sentence because she didn't want to point it out explicitly and because
she saw no reason for doing so. As long as we're both well aware of it, that's good enough.
“You haven't received any news?”
Artemis shot her a glance before refocusing on the road. “I've been with you the entire day. Don't you
think you would've known if I did?”
What he really meant was, “Do you think I'm hiding this from you? How can I when I'm being watched
by you twenty-four hours a day?”
The sarcasm in his voice ticked Bailey off.
In response, she demanded, “Stop the car right now. I want to get out.”
Artemis' handsome countenance tensed up. Why did she get angry so suddenly? I thought we were
just talking. Are all pregnant women this bad-tempered?
“I'm sorry. My tone earlier was inappropriate. Stop throwing a fit. I'm still driving here. Once we return,
I'll contact Holden and Micah to ask them about the situation.”
“I'm throwing a fit?” Bailey's anger boiled over. “Stop the car! Stop it right now! Do you hear me?”
Afraid that her agitation would affect the baby, he swiftly parked the car at the side of the road.
Without delay, she opened the door and exited the car.
Artemis, who was left alone in the car, massaged his temples in exasperation. If the Saviors and
Tarragon did clash with each other, that'll be tricky to handle.
