Chapter 505
Veronique was smart enough to make out what her words meant.
“So is it really a malignant tumor?”
Bailey turned away. “We discovered it in time, so there is still time to treat it slowly. Don't worry. I have
experience in developing anti-cancer drugs, so I will definitely develop a suitable drug before the
cancer cells spread any further.”
Veronique clasped Bailey's arm and shook her head, her lips tightly pressed together. “You are carrying
a baby, so you can't stress yourself. Schedule the surgery to remove my uterus first, and we'll see what
happens after that.”
“Okay, whatever you say. You must promise me not to think about committing suicide. You want to be
in-laws with me, right? Zephyr and Susan grew up together, so they will definitely end up together as
you wish. You must be alive and well to see that.”
Veronique chuckled. “You've agreed to it so readily, huh? I don't think Mr. Luther agrees to it, though. If
Zephyr ends up with your daughter, I think he'll stop being friends with Justin.”
“Just stay alive. If you make a full recovery, I will give my consent for my daughter to marry your son.
Look, this is a huge sacrifice on my part, so you must make sure you recover completely.”
“All right. Don't worry. I'm not as fragile as you think. I've grown indestructible over the years after
having to face Zephyr's illness.”

The door was pushed open, and in came Justin.
He was back to his usual calm and indifferent self. His gaze landed on Bailey as he said, “It's getting
late, Bailey. You should head back and get some rest while I stay here with Veronique.”

Bailey walked out of the ward to see Artemis leaning against the wall.
He was holding an unlit cigar.
Upon seeing her, he quickly came over and asked, “Are you tired? Do you need me to carry you to get
some rest?”
Bailey stretched her arms out. Since he offered to carry her, she was more than glad to accept his offer.
“By the way, how did you deal with the collectors who were lied to? Did you compensate them for their
losses?”
Artemis arched a brow and mocked, “They were foolish enough to fall for that trap. Why would I
compensate them?”
“Artemis...”
“Okay, I will disclose everything to you, but please don't get angry. This incident involved a fraud
scheme. The ringleaders manipulated Lina into advertising a fake item to collectors. The police are now
involved and should conclude their investigation shortly. As long as they manage to retrieve the money,
the collectors can get their money back. On the contrary, if the money cannot be retrieved, they will
have to bear the losses as a result of their own naivety.”
Bailey found his reaction amusing. “You love splurging, don't you? The compensation is nothing to you.
Since when are you so stingy?”
“I only splurge on my wife. Are they my wife?”
Bailey was speechless.
Meanwhile, Zoey sat on a couch in the living room of a private mansion in the suburbs.
She glanced at the spiral staircase nervously.
“Why isn't Ms. Carr here yet? I have an urgent matter to discuss with her. Could you please ask her to
hurry up?”
The female assistant gave her a curt nod. “Ms. Shurmer, Ms. Carr is currently having a video
conference in her study. She promised to meet you in half an hour, and she won't go back on her word.
Please be patient. It isn't time yet, so I dare not interrupt her.”
Zoey clenched her jaw. She recalled how Zeke defended Bailey at the museum earlier in the day and
grew increasingly anxious.
Did Zeke learn about Bailey's real identity? Otherwise, why did he help Bailey gather all the victims
who were tricked by Lina and helped her send Lina to jail?
After much pondering, she concluded that the only possibility was that Zeke had discovered Bailey's
identity.
Footsteps echoed from the staircase, causing her to immediately lift her gaze and saw Sofie, who was
descending the stairs dressed in a nightgown. Zoey promptly stood up to greet her.
Sofie gave a wave to dismiss everyone in the living room. Frowning, she asked, “Why are you here this
late? Did something happen?”
“I think Zeke found out about Bailey's identity. What should I do? Please tell me what I should do!”
Sofie guided her to take a seat on the couch and spoke in a measured tone. “Ah, I thought it was a
pressing matter. That's why you're here. So what if he has uncovered the truth? As long as you haven't
done anything wrong, they won't kick you out of the Shurmer family. You need to have patience. After
all, a little impatience spoils great plans. Don't get flustered over something minor. I have everything
under control, so nothing will happen.”
“B-But now that Zeke knows Bailey is his biological sister, he will definitely take action by finding a
chance for her to return to the Shurmer family. Mom, if Bailey returns to the Shurmer family, she will be
able to marry into the Luther family with her identity as the Shurmer family's legitimate heiress. This

Sofie glanced at the ground for a few moments in silent contemplation before grabbing her phone
which she placed on the coffee table.
She typed out a text: Yve, have you made up your mind? The head of Tarragon is going to marry his
wife soon. If you are still hesitating, you'll have to bow and submit to another woman in the future.
Ten seconds later, she received a reply: Okay, let's do as you say. I got rid of Shannon, so I can get rid
of Bailey as well. Let me deal with that woman. If I need your help, you'll have to help me no matter
what.
Sofie: Okay. Congratulations in advance, Your Royal Highness.
After sending the message, Sofie raised an eyebrow and grinned malevolently. “Can you calm down
now? Even if you don't take any action, someone else will do it for you. Just wait and watch. We'll wait
until both parties suffer losses from the battle, and then you can reap the benefits.”
The following day, Shannon ran out of the living room to the outdoor grounds of her house.
Tears streamed down her cheeks when she saw the familiar figure standing before her.
“M-Mother...”
Ivy lifted her head to stare at her daughter who was standing on the steps as tears filled her eyes.
“Oh, Shannon. My dear daughter.”
Shannon could no longer keep her emotions in check and stumbled down the stairs, collapsing on her
knees in front of Ivy and clinging to her legs.
“Mother, I'm glad you're alive. Oh, this is great! After all the obstacles I've been through, God has finally
decided to be kind to me this time,” she wailed.
Ivy's hand trembled as she reached out to caress Shannon's face. Her gaze landed on the empty left
sleeve of Shannon's shirt, and her tears flowed like a torrential downpour.
My daughter should've been the cream of the crop as she was the most talented member of Tarragon
among her peers. What could she have gone through to bring her to this state of distress?
“Shannon, what happened to you over the years?”
