Chapter 468
Sprawled on the bed, Shirley eagerly shot up upon hearing that.
“Who was it? Who set the fire?”
Gritting her teeth, Zoey hissed, “It was Bailey's two brats. My guess is that she ordered them to do so
to ruin your engagement party with my brother and buy time for her disciple.”
Crash!
Another loud crash split the air.
As though having lost her mind, Shirley swept all the ornaments on the bedside table to the ground and
roared with hatred, “Bailey! Bailey! I'm going to rip you into a thousand pieces and reduce you to
ashes!”
Meanwhile, a sinister smile tugged at Zoey's lips.
Sure enough, that old woman, Sofie, is a scheming b*tch, having perfect control over the minds of
others. If she hadn't hinted at me to use this method, I wouldn't have thought of it so quickly.
“Don't worry, Shirley. I'll help you. Not only is that b*tch your enemy, but she's also mine. She spread
rumors about her resembling my mother, attempting to use public opinion to drive me mad. Fortunately,
my father and brother trust me, feeling that it's wholly absurd that we've been switched. Otherwise, she
would've really gotten her way.”
The instant Shirley heard that the baby-switching subject that took the city by storm a few days ago
was also Bailey's doing, her fury blazed even hotter. Clenching her jaw, she snarled, “She even
offended Scarlett. Now that the Fletcher family has successfully been elected, I'll give Scarlett a call
sometime and invite her to Hallsbay to deal with that b*tch together.”
At once, glee showed on Zoey's face. “That's right! There's still Ms. Fletcher. So, don't be mad
anymore. We've got all the time in the world, and we'll definitely be able to make Bailey pay with our
collective efforts.”
At night, Zayron crawled into the living room.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtIndeed, he literally crawled.
Well, there isn't anything I can do since I ended up with such heartless parents, leaving me out in the
rain and having me fend for myself for a few hours. This is my only choice. Hah! That bootlicker,
Maxton was smart! In the afternoon, he hugged the tyrant's leg and pretentiously wailed for a while
before shamelessly passing out on the ground. Taking pity on him, that tyrant saved him. The tyrant
then turned and asked whether I knew what I did wrong, but I foolishly said no. After that, no one
bothered about me anymore! Argh! When he came home at night, he didn't even pay me any mind. He
simply walked right into the living room to enjoy himself with his wife and kids! Hmph! I bet I must have
been adopted! That must be it!
In the living room, the whole Luther family was munching on fruits as they sat on the couch.
It made for an exceedingly heartwarming sight.
Sprawled on the ground, Zayron keened, “I'm dying.”
Caridee wanted to rush over and scoop him up, but a glare from Bailey scared her so much that she
shrank back into the couch.
Bailey eyed her son lying limp on the ground coldly. In a terse voice, she asked, “Do you know what
you did wrong?”
“Y-Yes. I shouldn't have been so reckless and set fire to the hotel. If someone had died in the fire, it
would've been a senseless loss of life.”
As soon as Bailey heard that, her temper spiked. “I don't think you've realized what you did wrong at
all. Go out and continue kneeling!”
Following her words, Zayron yanked at his hair.
What the hell did I do wrong exactly? Isn't she hopping mad because I shouldn't have shown such
disregard for innocent lives?
Sighing softly, Artemis walked over to his son and looked down at him. In a deep voice, he started,
“Max said you started the fire personally. At that time, you were less than a meter away from the fire
and almost got burned.”
Zayron snapped his eyes up and shot daggers at Maxton, hissing through gritted teeth, “Who told you
to tell them that? Didn't I warn you—”
Before he even had the opportunity to finish his utterance, Bailey stalked over and slapped him hard on
the back of the head several times. With red-rimmed eyes, she bellowed, “Why on earth did I give birth
to a brat like you?”
At long last, Zayron knew what he did wrong.
I took a risk with my life and terrified her, causing her great terror.
Scrambling up from the ground, he reached out and hugged his mother's leg. Weeping, he blubbered,
“I'm sorry. This time, I really know what I did wrong. I promise I'll never act so recklessly again, nor will I
ever risk my life.”
Bailey lifted her arm to hit him a few more times, but when she sensed him all wet and trembling
incessantly, she ultimately couldn't bring herself to do so.
“Heed my warning, Zayron Jefferson. If you get yourself killed, I'll also die with you. Do you hear me?”
“Y-Yes. I... I'll never do it again.”
Perhaps Zayron was already at his limit, for no sooner had he finished saying that than he went limp
and slid down to the ground, unconscious.
Shocked, Bailey hastily bent down to scoop him up.
However, Artemis was a step ahead of her. Scooping Zayron up, he cradled his son in his arms.
“Carry him up and draw him a hot bath. I'll go and get some cold medication.”
“Okay.”
On the couch, Gerald nodded approvingly.
“One must be strict when the situation calls for it and vice versa. That's the correct way for parents to
educate their children. Don't worry, for every generation is responsible for the next. There's no need for
us to interfere.”
Felicity snorted, but in truth, she grew increasingly pleased with Bailey.
Although she might possibly be a daughter of the Shurmer family, I've already come around after
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmexperiencing so much. My three grandchildren... Ah, it should be four grandchildren. They were all born
of her, so it's sufficient to offset my prejudice against her. Besides, she's mild-tempered and doesn't put
on airs. While she's pretty irritating when she speaks and doesn't treat me like her elder, I can sense
that she's only so daring with me because she regards me as family.
The next day, a collection of antiques shipping back from abroad arrived in Hallsbay.
They were then delivered to the exhibition hall in the museum.
The antiques were seized from a gang of tomb raiders abroad.
After bringing down that gang, the authorities learned that they also broke into a few large domestic
tombs dating back to the Quix and Haju Eras and sold off most of the antiques. Rumor had it that there
was a national treasure among those cultural relics.
However, the authorities didn't specify what it was exactly.
Only when Raiden arrived in Hallsbay once more with orders from the government did Bailey finally
learn what the mysterious cultural relic said to be a national treasure was exactly.
It was an emerald seal that belonged to the Haju royal family.
On top of that, it was the foundation of Chanaea's inheritance.
In the coffee shop, Bailey let out a long breath after listening to Raiden's brief explanation.
But still, she couldn't mask the surprise on her face.
“For the past millennium, the descendants of Chanaea had been searching for the foundation of the
inheritance of Haju Civilization. It's also what people in the industry term the emerald seal.
Unfortunately, there hadn't been any news throughout the ages. It's really unexpected that it ended up
being discovered by a gang of tomb raiders.”
In response, Raiden nodded with solemnity written all over his handsome face. “The higher-ups attach
great importance to this matter, so they sent me over to follow up on it. As the emerald seal has been
resold several times by antique dealers, experts can't determine whether the emerald seal transported
back is genuine.”
Bailey was silent for a moment before she ventured, “Have those few antique dealers been arrested?”
“Yes. Anyone who came into contact with the emerald seal has been arrested. Now, I mainly have to
find an expert who can appraise antiques to conduct an appraisal.”
