Chapter 335
After ending the call, Artemis turned to look at the ocean as a wave of bitterness washed over his
heart.
Is this how cruel fate is? Something just had to happen when I'm about to execute my plan. Is this
fated? Are we destined to not be in each other's lives? Is that why God isn't even giving me a chance to
keep her here?
“Thank goodness you haven't shot yourself,” came a youthful voice from behind Artemis.
It was Zayron.
The boy jumped over the railing and walked over to his father. After a moment of studying Artemis from
head to toe, he frowned and continued, “Fortunately, you won't need to go on with your painful plan.”
Artemis lifted a brow before lowering his gaze to look at Zayron and asked, “What do you mean?”
Zayron clicked his tongue. “You have a good son who doesn't want you to be shot to death. That's why
he let out a snake and let it bite him. I'll call Bailey now and tell her that Max has been bitten by a cobra
and is on the verge of death.”
Artemis' expression darkened, and a hint of anger manifested in his eyes. “Are you telling me that he
intentionally let the snake bite him? Damn it! How can he do something dangerous like this?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtZayron flinched in fear.
Darn, Ratemis is quite scary when he's angry.
“A-Actually, he wasn't the one who let out the snake. It was Rhonda. Max came clean with Rhonda last
night and even said that he was going to get a DNA test with her. Rhonda was desperate, so she
ordered someone to put a snake in Max's room. The only thing Max is guilty of is playing the fool and
letting the snake bite him.”
Artemis was speechless. His temples throbbed.
These two idiots! Don't they know how dangerous this is? If anything happens to the two of them, she'll
never come back to me even if I get shot ten times, let alone once.
“I'll settle the scores with you later. Hurry and call your mother. Tell her...”
At that, Artemis paused for a moment. “Tell her that my enemy shot me. Tell her that the bullet is lodged
in my heart but no one dares to operate on me. Urge her to hurry back.”
Zayron blinked rapidly. “Aren't we supposed to tell her that Max has been bitten by a cobra?”
“A cobra's bite is deadly, but that's something a doctor can deal with, although it'll take quite an effort.
Do you think your mom's going to come back to develop the antidote for him?”
Um...
Zayron pursed his lips before muttering in a sympathetic tone, “So you mean to say that Dummy
suffered for nothing?”
Artemis huffed. “Well, it isn't completely pointless. At least I don't need to be shot now.”
“What are you waiting for? Hurry and call your mother.”
Sorry, Bailey. For the sake of getting the power Ratemis has now, I'll have to betray you.
On the battleship, Bailey was watching the city fade into a black dot before disappearing beneath the
waves.
Just as she was about to look away, her phone rang.
Upon taking it out, she discovered that it was a call from Zayron.
She narrowed her eyes. A moment of hesitation later, she accepted the call. “What's wrong?”
“Mommy, I have bad news! Maxton just called me and told me that Ratemis was shot in the chest by
his enemy. Apparently, his life is in danger!”
Bailey's eyes widened, and her phone nearly slipped out of her hand and fell into the sea.
She quickly recomposed herself and asked through gritted teeth, “What did he promise you to make
you agree to help him out with this lie?”
Zayron was at a loss for words.
Mommy's too calm and rational. It's hard to trick her.
Still, the boy soon came up with another plan. After he decided to go all out and steeled himself, he
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmsaid, “Yes, it's part of his plan, but that old man actually did it! The sniper shot right at his heart. You
know how Justin is overseas right now. There isn't any doctor in Hallsbay who dares to operate on him.
If you don't come back now, he'll die. Well, he only has himself to blame for his. You have the choice
not to save him.”
Fury twisted inside of her as her grip on her phone tightened so much that the tips of her fingers went
white.
How dare that damned man do this? How can he force me in such a ruthless way? Do I go back? If I
do, I'll be admitting to him that my heart is trapped here and that I'll never be free from this place. What
if I don't go back? Justin isn't in Hallsbay. No one will be able to operate on him. Soon, he'll be dead.
Darn him! What a scoundrel! He's a b*stard and a rascal! What else is he but a pest if he's using such
lowly tricks to force me to return?
“Anyway, I'm only informing you about the situation. Whether or not you want to come back will be up to
you. But I have to say, Bailey, Ratemis is quite badly hurt this time.”
With that, Zayron ended the call.
Bailey nearly broke her teeth from how hard she gritted them.
She had no doubt that the man would fire a shot at his heart.
After all, his love for her had turned into an obsession.
“What's wrong?” Raiden's voice came from behind her, and it pulled her back to reality.
Bailey gave him a bitter chuckle. “It looks like your words have come true. Please turn the ship around
and head back to Hallsbay. I can't leave.”
