Chapter 311
The host led Bailey to the rack before the latter took the trophy and presented it to her daughter.
“Congratulations on winning the Best Child Actor Award, Barbara!”
The girl passed the flowers that she was holding to the host before receiving the trophy from her
mother.
With the spotlights focusing on Susan, the audience broke into applause, reverberating through the
auditorium.
After the crowd quietened, the girl tilted her head and asked, “Ms. Morpheus, I've already been
awarded the Oscars' Best Child Actor Award. Have I earned the right to take part in your new
production?”
Bailey smiled and pinched Susan's cheeks affectionately before replying in front of the tens of
thousands of guests who were present, “You can take part in any of my productions you like. From
today onward, you will be the one selecting your role and not the other way around. If there's any role
that you would like to attempt, just let me know, and I will invite the Best Actor and Best Actress to act
with you.”
After saying that, Bailey said to the audience in a half-joking manner, “Would the Best Actor and Best
Actress of the evening be willing to act with my daughter?”
Elliot, who had just won the Best Actor Award, took over the microphone from one of the members of
the event crew and replied smilingly, “That would be my honor.”
A moment later, Rainie, the Best Actress of the evening, spoke. “It would also be my honor to act with
Ms. Jefferson's little princess.”
Susan was overjoyed when she heard that and started jumping in delight while clapping her hands.
“Hooray! I'm so looking forward to acting with both of you too!”
Meanwhile, the other young actors and actresses in the audience were casting looks of envy at Susan.
It was finally clear to them why Morpheus had appeared.
The woman had kept a low profile for many years, and the reason she revealed her true identity was

Susan is so lucky to be her daughter!
“Everyone, please quiet down.” The host gestured for the audience to keep quiet before saying with a
smile, “Since Ms. Morpheus has graced the event personally, it's time for us to announce the winner for
the final award of the evening. Let us congratulate Ms. Morpheus for winning the Best Writer Award for
the fifth consecutive year!”
Immediately after the host finished speaking, voices of agreement could be heard from the audience.
“Ms. Morpheus definitely deserves the title!”
“There's no question about that.”
“Indeed, we agree.”
Those who had spoken were all internationally acclaimed writers whose works had been adapted into
movies or dramas.
Their praises for Morpheus were from the bottom of their hearts as they truly believed that the woman
was the most iconic figure in the industry.
She was widely respected as many of her works had a profound effect on the younger generations,
imparting the right values to them.
The organizer of the Oscars walked up on stage holding the trophy and stopped next to Bailey. “For the
past four years, I've been hoping to see Morpheus at the Oscars but ended up disappointed. It's
definitely my greatest honor to see you here tonight,” the man said with a smile.
Bailey nodded slightly before taking over the trophy from him and said, “This is the first time I'm
receiving a literary award on stage, and it would also be the last time. This evening's awards ceremony
is deeply meaningful to me. Once again, I would like to thank all my friends and fans for your support
over the years.”
After saying that, the woman looked toward the camera and bowed deeply.
What seemed like a usual thank you speech shocked the audience.
The last time?
Could she be thinking about...
The host asked at once, “Ms. Morpheus, it seems like you're implying something. Are you intending to
stop writing?”
With a smile on her face, Bailey shook her head and replied, “Don't get me wrong. What I meant was
that I would request for the literary organizations to stop considering me for any awards. The awards
should be given to the newer writers to encourage them to create better works instead. I shouldn't
continue hogging the nomination list.”
Clap! Clap! Clap!
The audience responded with thunderous applause after hearing Bailey's words. Everyone was
clapping for the woman from the bottom of their hearts, feeling in awe of the literary master.
Indeed, she was a role model for all current and aspiring writers.
As the audience cheered, Bailey and her daughter walked down the stage, hand in hand.
When the mother-daughter pair walked past the VIP section, Susan made a face at Arethea and
scoffed, “You were right! I'm indeed an illegitimate child. However, I was born to a good mother. See,
I'm able to pick any role I'm interested in. Moreover, I get to act alongside the Best Actor and Best
Actress. You must be really envious of me, aren't you? Hmph!”
Even though Susan had removed her headset, her voice was still rather loud. As such, the surrounding
audience heard her words and looked toward the two girls.
“Her upbringing is really terrible. How can she call someone an illegitimate child? She's still so young
but already so mean!”
“Exactly! It's her parents' fault for not teaching her well. It's ridiculous to call our Susan an illegitimate
child. As long as Susan's mommy expresses her intention to get married, I'm sure every single man in
Hallsbay would join the line.”
Arethea was already very upset about not winning the award. After being criticized by the crowd, she
could not help but feel that the entire world was against her and burst into tears once again.
At that moment, Zoey wanted nothing more than the ground to open up and swallow her. Shirley had
gone to the restroom and left Arethea in her care, and she ended up being dragged into the current
situation.

The corners of Bailey's lips curled into a cold grin before she walked away with Susan.
As she walked past the crowd, many in the audience extended their hands. In response, Bailey held
their hands briefly with a smile on her face.
“Ms. Morpheus, I love your works!”
“I can't thank you enough, Ms. Morpheus! It's because of your work that I managed to clinch the Best
Supporting Actress Award.”
“Ms. Morpheus, can I audition for a role in your next production? I wouldn't mind even if it's just a
cameo.”
Shielding her daughter, Bailey was finally able to squeeze out of the crowd. “Just for you, I've done
something I didn't want to do again. Alas! Why did I give birth to two troublemakers?” she exclaimed.
Susan chuckled as she hugged her mother's thigh and replied, “I'm your biological daughter. Don't
even dream about getting rid of me.”
Bailey was smiling from ear to ear when she heard that. She knew that her daughter was upset about
being called an illegitimate child and would do anything to cheer the girl up.
“Susan, remember, you're a very precious little girl, and I will always be here for you and support you in
the pursuit of your dreams. People are only speaking ill of you because they are jealous, so you
shouldn't take their comments seriously. If you do that, you will be giving them exactly what they want.
Do you understand?”
“Okay!” Susan answered as she looked up at her mother, feeling amused.
Mommy, you're so dumb! Daddy is just right next to you, and you don't even know. Serves you right for
being kept in the dark by us.
“Ms. Jefferson, Mr. Luther is looking for you urgently and requests that you head to the lounge,” a male
voice said respectfully.
Bailey turned toward the direction of the voice instinctively and saw Ken standing there.
“Tell him I'll talk to him after the event ends.”
“Mr. Luther said that if you don't go over now, he will come here personally. If he does that, everyone in
the auditorium would see him pestering you and—”
“Stop!” Bailey interrupted the man through gritted teeth. “I'll go see him now.”
Just when Bailey reached the lounge area, she heard strange sounds and stopped in her tracks.
