Yulissa opened a bottle of wine and walked back and forth around the house. What should
I do now? Should I come clean with Xavier and tell him to seek treatment at the hospital,
or should I wait for the drug’s effect to subside?
After gulping down a glass of whiskey, she curled her lips into a smirk. No. Those are not
the options I desire. Since I can’t win Xavier’s heart, why should I care about him? I want
to see him go downhill.
Instead of reminding Xavier, Yulissa planned to give him another jab. I shall watch him
become a maniac since he’s obsessed with the woman who dumped him. I’m sure one day
he’ll destroy her.
Anticipation was written all over Yulissa’s face when she envisioned the outcome.
Meanwhile, Winnie returned to the thirty-first floor after leaving Xavier’s place.
She was taken aback when she saw Christopher standing in front of the door the moment
she stepped out of the elevator.
Before Winnie could say anything, the man walked over and placed his coat over her
shoulders. She could feel the warmth on his outer garment.
Christopher instantly got an anxiety lump in his throat when he accidentally saw Winne’s
upper chest area. After adjusting the coat on her, he swiftly pulled his hands away.
“Xavier hit you again?” Christopher asked.
“Not really.” Winnie gave a short answer as she did not want to talk about it. “What are
you doing here? Are you leaving soon?”
“No.” Christopher drew his brows together. “I came over because I’m worried Xavier might
turn aggressive. I wanted to go up to take a look but realized the elevator uses fingerprint
access control. I had no choice but to wait outside.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Yeah, the security system in this neighborhood is pretty solid.” Feeling a little annoyed,
Winnie did not feel like entertaining Christopher.
She removed the coat and hinted, “It’s getting late now. I’ll have to return to the Garland
residence with Granny soon. Here’s your coat.”
Christopher was able to read between the lines. He looked at Winnie and wanted to say
something, but words caught in his throat.
Before this, Winnie had never regarded Christopher as someone who had feelings for her
because he would only contact her to discuss work-related matters. In fact, she was the
one who had always initiated the communication.
Yet, after listening to what Xavier said earlier, she could begin to sense something
different in Christopher’s eyes even at this moment.
“Here’s your coat.” Winnie once again urged the man to leave.
Christopher wanted to talk to Winnie, but he knew it was not the right time.
He did not want to stir up unnecessary trouble for her, especially when she was in a bad
mood.
He retrieved his coat and said, “I’ll leave now. You can call me if you need my help. You
can always count on me.”
Winnie opened her mouth, but before she could say anything, Jacinta opened the door.
After glancing at Christopher and Winnie, Jacinta went up, held Winnie’s hand, and pulled
her over. She did not notice the tear on Winnie’s clothes. “Winnie, you’re back. Come, let’s
go in and drink some soup. I’ve also made dinner. Do you want to join us?”
Christopher rejected the offer as he did not want to make Winnie uncomfortable. “Thank
you for the invitation, Mdm. Sumner. But I’d just received a call and will have to get back
to work now.”
Jacinta could not help but grin when she heard that. “Since when did you answer a call?
You left your phone on the coffee table, and I didn’t even hear you talking over the phone.
You could have come up with a better excuse, you know.”
Christopher blushed in embarrassment.
When Jacinta said her phone was turned off automatically as it had run out of battery, he
did take out his phone.
When she poured him a glass of water, he immediately placed his phone on the coffee
table to retrieve the glass of water with both hands.
After a short chat with Jacinta, he hurriedly stepped out of the house and forgot to take his
phone.
Jacinta noticed how awkward Christopher was. She immediately stepped in and defused
the tension. “I’m sure you didn’t lie on purpose. Winnie must have said something to you,
right? Don’t mind her. Just come in and have dinner with me.”
Jacinta’s remark rendered Winnie speechless. Why is Granny siding with an outsider?
The three of them then went into the house.
While Jacinta was busy setting up the table for Christopher, Winnie returned to her room.
When she came out to the living area, Jacinta finally noticed she was wearing something
different. “Why did you change clothes?”
Winnie casually explained, “I accidentally tore my clothes just now.”
Before Jacinta could reply, Winnie reminded, “We’ve got to hurry, Granny. We still need to
return to the Garland residence.
“All right, all right,” Jacinta complained, “We still have to eat dinner first, right? They don’t
even allow me to use the kitchen there.”
“Come, sit. I’ll bring the dishes.” Winnie said and was ready to go to the kitchen.
Christopher raised his hand to stop her from leaving. “I’ll get the dishes. I’m nearer to the
kitchen.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmBefore Winnie could say no, the man had gone to the kitchen, brought out the dishes, and
placed them on the dining table.
Christopher then extended his hand to Winnie. “Give me your plate.”
Winnie hesitated for a moment. She passed her plate to him as she did not want to
embarrass him.
Upon seeing that, Jacinta could not help but express her dismay, “Chris is our guest. How
can you let him do the job? You should serve him a bowl of mushroom soup instead.
Quick.”
Winnie was at a loss for words. It seemed Jacinta had mistaken them as a couple. How can
I give another man a chance when I’d just ended my relationship with Xavier a while ago?
Instead of serving Christopher the mushroom soup, Winnie said, “Captain Bennett, do
make yourself feel at home since I don’t know what you like to eat.”
“Oh, yes. Make yourself feel at home.” Jacinta uttered before turning her attention to
Winnie. “By the way, have you spoken to Mr. Xavier? From now on, you should stay away
from him.”
Winnie could not help but feel down in the dumps again when she recalled how Xavier
bombarded her with a barrage of questions uncontrollably earlier.
She hummed in response and changed the topic. “Granny, I think you’ve added too much
salt to the beef.”
Jacinta knew Winnie did not want to talk about Xavier. After all, we’re emotional creatures.
We wouldn’t want to talk about things that upset us.
She then turned her attention to Christopher. “Chris, how did you get to know Winnie? I
don’t think you’re involved in her case, right?”
Upon hearing Jacinta’s question, Christopher put down his cutleries.
