Chapter 723

After Benjamin and Anna's departure, Nicole and Benedict were the only ones left in the room.

Studying his wrinkled face for a moment, she began with a slow tone, "Grandpa, I believe my mother did not do

such a thing."

He was leaning against the bedside and had closed his eyes when he saw Nicole coming into the room. His

expression was telling her that he was exhausted.

He could hear her voice, but he didn't bother to answer.

Even so, Nicole could understand his feelings. After seeing the photo, there was no way he would trust her words

anymore. However, she didn't think her mother was the kind of person who would murder someone.

"Grandpa, I know you've seen the photo, and won't believe any words I say after that. I only want to ask for a week

from you, and I'll find out the truth and give Grandma an explanation," Nicole said in a determined tone as she

watched the elderly man.

After hearing such words from Nicole, Benedict slowly fluttered his eyes open. His gaze was full of wisdom and

betrayed a hint of sharpness. When he raised his head in her direction, his gaze fell on her face.

He cleared his throat before throwing her a question. "How am I supposed to believe you?"

He was willing to talk to her, and that was considered a start for Nicole. Thus, she added, "Grandpa, please give me

a week. If my mother is proven the culprit of a hit and run, I'll stay away from any of the Gardners in the future,

including Colton."

It was the most important resolution she had ever made.

Her determined face triggered a memory in Benedict's mind back when he was in the hospital with Madeline and

Nicole.

Madeline was a gentle and kind woman. She would comply with his will rather than deny any of his requests if he

asked her nicely. Although she was suffering from illness, she remained positive and optimistic.

The sight of Benedict being moved by what she said had fueled Nicole to persuade him further.

"No matter whether the accident was my mother's doing or not, I believe that you want to find out the identity of

the culprit who hit Grandma."

At last, Benedict finally changed his mind. After all, he had been wishing that Madeline wasn't the murderer deep

down inside his heart. Nodding, he agreed with her in a low voice, "All right. You've got one week to prove her

innocence. If she isn't related to the accident, I'll let it slip."

His promise set Nicole at ease. In the end, she nodded at him before heading for the door.

After all, she was still the daughter of a murderer in his eyes, and she affirmed that he wouldn't want to see her

around any longer.

She found Anna waiting for her in the corridor when she left Benedict's room. When Anna saw Nicole leave the

room, the former grabbed Nicole's elbow and steered her to the side.

"Nicole, if your mother is proven guilty in the end, what will happen to you and Colton?"

The hesitation in Anna's words was obvious, and Nicole could understand what worried the Gardners. If she was in

their shoes, she wouldn't be able to stay calm if her mother was murdered by a Gardner.

"I understand your concern. I asked Grandpa to spare me seven days. If I end up not being able to prove my

mother's innocence in Grandma's death, I'll cut ties with your family," she announced.

Anna was distressed to hear such words from Nicole, and it showed on her face. However, no words of comfort left

her and she eventually sighed. "Whatever you say."

Once Nicole bid farewell to Anna, she strode for the exit.

Olivia was now sitting on the couch as she burned with silent anger. Nicole knew better than to provoke her and

initiate a fight. Thus, she avoided Olivia and headed for the door.

Noticing Nicole had dealt with her matters, Colton followed behind her and walked toward the exit.

Once they left the house, he pulled her back and asked, "How was things between you and Grandpa?"

Nicole paused to collect herself before she answered, "I believe that my mother won't do such a thing. Therefore, I

asked for seven days from him. If I can't prove my mother's innocence within this period, I'll cut my connections

with your family."

She raised her head, and seriousness was written all over her face.

Colton couldn't help but frown hard when he heard her announcement. How can she risk the rest of her life for the

matter?
