Chapter 283
My nervous demeanor seemed to trigger jealousy in Neil Whitmore. For you, even a dog is more
important than me,” he remarked.
“Dogs are humans’ best friends, I replied without lifting my head, then turned to the little dog and said,
‘Don’t you think I’m right, Neilson?”
The puppy happily barked in my arms. It seemed to really like the name.
Neil had a persistently serious expression. Every time the little dog saw him, it would hide, looking
scared. His presence was so overpowering that even the fiercest of dogs would fear him.
A servant approached us, saying, “Mr. Whitmore, Ms. Finch, dinner is ready”
“Neilson, let’s go have dinner,” I said as I carried the little pup to the dining room. I had initially thought
about letting it join us, but then I remembered and thought, “It is still a puppy, so it should stick to milk
for now.”
I placed the puppy on a nearby chair, which happened to be Neil’s usual spot.
Neil walked over, saw his usual spot occupied, and looked even more sullen. The little pup barked at
him twice. He snorted coldly and took a seat elsewhere
I ate while searching online for dog care tips. Perhaps because I was unable to have children of my
own anymore, I immediately treated that little pup as
my own.
Neil received a phone call, most likely from Louis Aldridge.
I listened to their conversation. It seemed like Louis was about to start working at Whitmore Co., and it
was going to be a significant position.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtI recalled the conspiracy theories Stella Wallace and I had discussed. What kind of person was Louis,
really? I had some reservations about him, but since I didn’t know him well, there was no need to be
overly concerned.
“Alright. You can come to the company to complete the formalities, Neil concluded the call with Louis
and then asked me, “Why have you been staring at me?”
“Is Louis going to work at Whitmore Co 7” Lasked casually keeping my head down as I continued
eating
Neil nodded. “Yes. He hasn’t found a job since returning home. And we need to hire new employees,
so I decided to bring him into Whitmore Co.”
If Neil agreed to have Louis at Whitmore Co., he must have been referring to the headquarters. That
was a coveted place for many.
Louis was probably competent, but the key reason he could enter Whitmore Co’s headquarters was
Neil.
“Do you have any objections?” Neil asked me.
“I have no objections,” I replied casually, shaking my head while continuing to eat.
Neil didn’t say much more. He took a few more bites of his meal and then headed upstairs. I finished
my dinner slowly and handed the little pup over to the servants to arrange a place for it to stay
I was planning to visit Barbara Sands the next day. So, I decided to take a bath that night and prepare
my clothes for the next day. I wondered if Neil was In the master bedroom at that time.
I approached the door of the master bedroom and tried to push it open, only to find it dark inside. Neil
wasn’t in there.
I thought, “He might be working in his study.”
I sighed in relief and went to take a bath.
When I left the bathroom, I heard Neil’s voice. He seemed a bit annoyed.
He hung up the phone, saw me coming out, looked surprised for a moment, and then said, ‘I need to
go out for a while.”
“Okay” I replied nonchalantly, sitting at the vanity to do my skincare routine.
It was only around 8 o’clock in the evening. Whether Neil went out for entertainment or to work at the
office, it was a normal occurrence.
Seeing that I didn’t seem concerned, Neil took the initiative to ask, ‘Aren’t you worried I’ll go out and
find other women?”
“Why should I worry? It’s your choice,” I replied calmly while massaging my face.
“So, even if we remarry, I can still have my freedom. That sounds good,” Neil said with a wry smile. I’m
leaving.”
With that, he left the room.
The bedroom returned to tranquility. I looked at myself in the mirror, and I indeed looked better when I
relaxed. The pressure on my mind had greatly reduced, affecting my appearance.
I had originally intended to go to sleep directly, but when I lay down, a bold idea crossed my mind, I
wanted to check Neil’s study again.
I had three chances to enter the password. As long as I didn’t trigger the alarm, I would be safe.
1 got out of bed, left the bedroom, and walked quietly to the study on the third floor, then attempted to
enter the password.
‘Password incorrect Please try again,” the lock blinked with a red light, the prompt tone cold and
unfeeling.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmMy heart raced. Another password floated into my mind, so I carefully entered it.
Password incorrect. Please try again” Another failure.
I had to give up because if I entered the wrong password again, it would trigger an alarm, and Neil
would be immediately alerted.
I could only try again later.
Disappointed, I returned to the master bedroom to rest.
As I lay down late at night, I felt someone lying beside me. His hands encircled me, and his breathing
sounded in my ear.
I was too tired to care. I turned my back to him, curling up in his arms like a shrimp. Before long, I felt
warmth in a certain part of his body. “Don’t bother me. I want to sleep, I couldn’t stand it, so I pushed
his hand away.
“I’ve thought of a name for the dog. Daisy You’re not allowed to call him Neilson anymore,” Neil said
without further physically disturbing me, but his deep, captivating voice began to trouble my ears.
I felt a little itchy, so I twisted my body and broke free from his embrace, “Okay, I’m going to sleep. If
you make a fuss again, go sleep in the guest room. Don’t disturb me.”
Neil forcefully pulled me back into his embrace. His long, strong limbs acted like restraints, locking me
in tightly and making me unable to move. “Fine, but only if you stay still. If you tempt me again, you’ll
have to deal with the consequences,” Neil warned in a low voice.
When did I ever tempt him? Men could be so irrational when they got worked up.
But then, I really didn’t want to move. My eyelids felt heavy. Soon, I slipped back into slumber, and just
before falling asleep, I faintly heard a sigh of patience in my ear.
The next morning, I got up, prepared to freshen up and get ready, and then headed to Barbara’s house.
For once, Neil wasn’t up early that day. He lay shirtless, face down on the pillow. The blanket had been
kicked aside, revealing his strong back muscles and firm waist muscles. He looked like a realistic oil
painting that could trigger hormonal surges.
