Sean had a sensitive stomach, and eating too much ice cream would easily give him a stomach ache, so Nadine kept reminding him, "You can only have two scoops of ice cream. Don't eat too much, or you'll get a tummy ache." Sean nodded in agreement, but he was secretly scheming to get a third scoop. While he was deep in thought, Tyler walked over to them. He stood in front of them and smiled at Nadine. "Nad, could you send Sean back for a bit? I need to talk to you about something." Noticing the serious look on his face, Nadine thought something important must have happened, so she let go of Sean's hand. "Why don't you go find your daddy, baby?" Sean, more than happy to be excused, nodded enthusiastically. "Sure thing!" Before she could remind him to watch his step, he ran off to where Brad sat.

She had a good idea of what Tyler wanted to talk about and had already prepared her response. He probably wanted to tell her that since she and Brad had divorced, she shouldn't look back and make the smistakes again-and that Brad wasn't husband material.
Nadine was well aware that Brad's heart belonged to Jean, not to her. So, no matter what he said or did, it was pointless to her. Her heart had been shattered once. She wouldn't give Brad a second chance to break it.
Looking into her calm, unwavering eyes, he suddenly felt it wasn't the right tto bring this up. However, the words were already on the tip of his tongue, so he had to keep going. "Nad, six years ago, Brad slept with Jean. I saw them at Palace Hotel, sneaking in one after the other." Nadine swallowed the words she had prepared, looking at him as if he'd revealed something groundbreaking. "What did you just say? Brad was at Palace Hotel six years ago? Do you remember the exact date?" She had interned at the Palace Hotel and lost her virginity there. Because of that, the hotel's nmade her feel uneasy. What happened that night was like a bottomless pit constantly haunting her ando becoming her innermost nightmare.
Her reaction caught him off guard. He looked at her in disbelief. "Nad, why are you so focused on Palace Hotel? Shouldn't you be more concemed about how dirty Brad is? He slept with Jean, Nad! He's like a toothbrush that fell into a toilet! Doesn't that bother you at all?" Tyler believed she should either explode with anger and confront Brad or not care at all, showing she'd moved on. That would mean Brad had no hold over her anymore.

"What is going on in that head of yours, Nad? Six years ago, when Brad was in a hotel with Jean his body and heart had already belonged to someone else. He's dirty, so why would you want to keep a man like that around?"
Nadine's attention was elsewhere. She didn't listen to a word Tyler said. Instead, she pressed on, "Hold on, let's put that aside for now. I need you to tellwhen they stayed at Palace Hotel. Was it in the winter or summer?"
Noticing her shift in demeanor, Tyler felt that something was up"Why do те you want to know?"
