Chapter 250
Chapter 250:
By comparison, Khloe’s new lab felt tiny—like a small fish swimming in the shadow of a great shark.
Her brows furrowed in confusion. “But why would the Dayton family blacklist me? I've never even met them.”
“It’s just because of Henrik,” Eric said, his face hardening. “That's all | can tell you. But Khloe, you have to trust
me. I'd never do anything to hurt you. Walking away from Henrik is the best thing for you. If you don’t, things
could end up worse than they were three years ago.”
Khloe, hearing the sincerity in his voice, could tell he wasn’t lying.
Her relationship with Henrik was a deal. They were never together.
Khloe let out a sharp, humorless laugh. “Eric, do you think the Dayton family’s blacklist scares me? Three years

She turned to leave, but Eric's hand shot out, grabbing hers.
“Wait! Please don’t go...”
Before Khloe could pull her hand away, Gloria, quick and silent, landed a kick straight at Eric's chest. The force
knocked him back, sending him crashing into the corner. He groaned, struggling to push himself up.
Khloe looked down at him, her face as cold as ice. She didn’t pause for a second. She simply turned and walked
away.
In another room, Henrik and Alan sat quietly, watching the scene unfold.
From where they stood, their view was limited, only offering blurry outlines of what was happening in the room.
When Henrik saw Eric sitting too close to Khloe, and Khloe didn’t seem bothered by it, his hands clenched into
fists. The lines of his fine face grew harder.

Alan, sensing the heat of Henrik’s anger, hesitated before speaking. “Mr. Watson, why not just call Miss Evans?
You can ask her what's going on.”
Henrik glanced coldly at him and said, “I'm not spossessive idiot. | don’t need to do that.”
The finality in his tone showed that the very idea disgusted him.
But only a few minutes passed before Henrik’s control cracked. He quickly dialed Khloe’s number.
Alan stared in disbelief. Was this what love did to people? Even Henrik, a man who thrived on logic and control,
wasn’t immune.
When the call connected, Khloe’s sweet voice cthrough. “What's up?”

“Where are you right now? When are you returning home?” Henrik’s voice, usually steady and commanding,
softened without him realizing.
Alan, a few steps away, picked up on the change. Without a word, he quietly slipped out of the room, giving
Henrik space and avoiding the fallout if Henrik caught him listening.
“Why do you want to know? Do you need anything?” The call had caught her off guard, especially at this hour.
Henrik should have been busy with meetings, and she had her own work to do at the lab.
“Not really. | just felt like talking. Have you eaten yet? Was it good?” His attempt at small talk felt a little
awkward.
“No. I've been too annoyed to eat. Ran into someone two-faced and pathetic.” Khloe frowned, irritation creeping
back as Eric's words from earlier resurfaced.
“Then cout. Lettake you out for a meal.” Henrik’s soft chuckle cthrough, smooth and warm in
Khloe’s ear.
