Chapter 36 Upon seeing my stubbornness, Selena relented.
However, when it was our turn to board the roller coaster, fate seemed to play a hand as we ended up in the very last row.
"I've never sat in the last row, but I've heard it's not as fun. Hud, should we wait for the next round?" she asked.
Earlier, I might have gone along with her suggestion, patiently waiting for the next ride so we could choose any seat we wanted. But now, I wanted to have my own way.

I realized I sounded a bit harsh. Turning to gauge her reaction, I saw a flicker of surprise on her face, quickly replaced by a look of grievance as she huffed at me. "Hudson, don't regret it later." Selena rarely calledHudson; she loved to callHud. When she calledHudson, it meant she was genuinely upset.
I didn't have the energy to think too much about it.
I had never been to an amusement park growing up. My family was poor, and we simply couldn't afford it. During school, I was too busy studying, and in the holidays, I had to work. Tslipped by, and before I knew it, I had graduated and still hadn't gone.
Sometimes, I wondered why someone as playful as Selena had never takento an amusement park.
Her family was wealthy, and they had strict rules. They didn't allow her to be spoiled. When she was a freshman in college, she started getting involved in the family business.
I thought she would have a carefree life there, but she often cried toabout the difficulties she faced at the grassroots level, feeling like she was being undermined.
At that time, although I was only a sophomore, I had more life experience than she did. I helped her navigate social situations, taught her the ropes, and even stayed up late with her to work on proposals.
Thinking back to those days brought a wave of nostalgia. Though those times were tough and filled with hardship, they were also when I felt Selena lovedthe most.
Perhaps, to rebel against her strict upbringing, she sought freedom in her romantic life.
She dated who she wanted and pursued whoever caught her eye. I lost count of how many men had chased her during college, spanning various majors and years. Rumors even floated that she had caught the eye of a university professor.

When she finally stabilized in her career, I found myself struggling with mine. Sometimes, I marveled at how we had stayed together for so long-from college to graduation and into marriage-seven years of her by my side.
But I couldn't help but wonder, throughout those seven years, had I really been the only one accompanying her?
We settled into the last row as the staff helped us secure our harnesses. Perhaps it was because it was her in a first tin the last row, but she looked anxious, instinctively gripping my hand tightly.
Her small hand wrapped around mine gavea sense of nostalgia, as if a child was holding on. When she intertwined her fingers with mine, it felt like we were transported back to the past. I looked at her, wanting to ask if she still loved me, but the thought of Sylvia madeswallow the question back.
