On the other side of the room, Carson knocked back his second glass of bourbon, while Charlie sat beside him, a sly

smile curling on his lips. “What’s up, buddy? Rough talk with Marina?”

Carson smirked back, “Nah, just in high spirits.”

Charlie gave him a knowing look. “Happy about calling off the engagement, huh?”

“Of course, I’m thrilled! Free as a bird again!” Carson glanced at Charlie. “Watching you guys get all worked up over

love, I’d rather be free and live alone.”

They clinked glasses. “You got that right. Your kind of guy would rather drown at sea than come ashore and wreck

havoc!”

Carson replied with a hint of sarcasm, “It used to be ‘our kind of guy,’ but now that you’ve made landfall, it turned

to be “you kind of guy”. You change your mind faster than a page in a book!”

Charlie’s laugh was elegant and carefree. “You just can’t appreciate the joy of solid ground, Carson. The sea is

where you belong.”

Carson raised an eyebrow at him. “Why do I get the feeling you’re doing this on purpose?”

Charlie threw back his head and laughed heartily.

A few waitstaff came by to serve drinks. Cindy, knowing Marina was around, didn’t dare get too close to Carson.

She hung back, listening to their banter, and shot Carson a glance that sparkled with interest.

In a short while, Carson had polished off a whole bottle. His tolerance was fine, but his stomach was churning.

After some more chat with Charlie, he stood up and headed for the restroom outside the private room.

He lingered in the restroom for a bit, and when he came out, he didn’t go back to the private room right away.

Instead, he leaned against the wall and lit up a cigarette.

Halfway through his smoke, someone approached. “Mr. Foster, are you feeling alright?” a gentle voice asked.

Carson looked up to see Cindy in the dim light, concern etched on her face, holding a glass of warm milk. “I noticed

you guys were drinking a lot in the private room. I know your stomach can be sensitive, and you often feel pain

after drinking too much. So, I brought you some warm milk. It should help.”

Resting casually against the wall, his handsome face wore a polite smile that was exceptionally charming.

“How did you know about my stomach?”

Cindy blushed slightly. “I’ve been paying attention and just noticed it!”

“Thank you, but I’m not a fan of milk,” Carson said, taking a drag from his cigarette.

“Maybe I can help you get some rest upstairs?” Cindy offered, her pretty face tinged with a subtle allure. “I’ve

learned some massage techniques that could help ease your stomach pain. Want to give it a try?”

“Really?” Carson chuckled. “Cindy, you’re full of surprises. You even know massage!”

“I learned it especially for you,” Cindy murmured, biting her lip and casting her eyes downward.

“For me?” Carson’s smile widened. “Aren’t you afraid your boyfriend will get jealous? I seem to recall he’s got quite

the temper!”

Cindy quickly clarified, “Freddy has been pursuing me, but I haven’t said yes.”

“Why doesn’t Freddy like Marina?” Carson suddenly asked.

Cindy’s eyes flickered. “I think Marina’s just too forward, clinging to Freddy every day. He just can’t stand it!”

“So she’s getting what she deserves, huh?” Carson’s smile held a barely discernible scoff.

Cindy couldn’t tell who Carson was referring to, nor could she read his expression. She whispered, “Freddy says

Marina still has feelings for him. She keeps showing up, trying to get his attention.”

“Is that so?” Carson pressed his lips together thoughtfully.

Wanting to call off the engagement so suddenly, could it be that she can’t forget Freddy and wanted to win him

back?

Foolish woman.

“It’s true. Freddy’s annoyed by her, always avoiding her. I think Marina’s going a bit too far. After all, she’s engaged

to you but still hung up on someone else,” Cindy huffed quietly. “I hope you don’t mind my saying so. I just couldn’t

stand by and say nothing!”

“He’s not upset,” a voice suddenly interjected. “but I am!”
