Chapter 1776
Mrs. James, not bothered, just smiled at Kya and cooed, “Sweetie, there’s a beautiful new teddy bear on my bed,
want to go see?”
Kya, in her innocent tone, replied, “I want to sleep with Daddy. Can Daddy come tao?”
Charlie instantly laughed, hugging Kya even tighter. He told Mrs. James, “You should head off to bed, don’t mess up
Kya’s routine.”
Mrs. James scowled, “You brought my granddaughter home for me, and now you’re keeping her away, are you
trying to upset me?”
“Get used to it” Charlie replied nonchalantly. “Once Emily and I get married, you probably won’t see Kya much

Mrs. James’ eyes widened, “You’re serious?”
Charlie nodded, “Of course. If you don’t accept Emily, you’ll lose Kya. Your choice.”
Mrs. James turned pale with anger, shot Charlie a venomous glance, and stormed off.
Kya looked up at Charlie, frowning slightly, “Is Granny angry?”
“It’s okay, she’ll be fine soon.” Charlie pinched her little face, “Come on, let’s continue our story.”
The next morning, Charlie sent Emily a photo first thing. They were standing in front of the bathroom sink, brushing
their teeth together.
Kya, with a mouth full of toothpaste foam, was all smiles.
Kya really liked Charlie. When Charlie used to frequent the Bright Commercial Center, they would stand together
like this, laughing and joking while brushing their teeth.
Emily stared at the photo, her almond eyes brimming with warmth.
She put away her phone, got up, freshened up and headed to work.
The morning was a busy one, leaving Emily with no time to think about anything else. Just before noon, she
received a call from the nursing home, “Hello, Ms. Sullivan. It’s Shawn’s caregiver. He’s been resisting his therapy
these past few days and today. He wont even take his medications. Can you come over?”
Emily frowned, “What’s wrong?”
The caregiver sighed, “Shawn is resisting therapy, maybe he’s dealing with some emotional issues, so we hape you
can come.”
Emily nodded, “Okay, I’m on my way.”

After hanging up, Emily took a leave and headed to the nursing home.
She knew Shawn’s room and found her way there. As she opened the door and stood in the entrance, she heard
Shawn’s voice from inside, “Mr. James, I didn’t expect you to come.”
Emily was taken aback. Charlie was here?
Why was he here?
Sure enough, Charlie’s voice echoed from the living room, “I had instructed the manager to call me if there was a
problem. Besides, it’s about time I came to visit you.”
Shawn sounded truly remorseful, “I don’t deserve to see you or Emily.”
“So, is that why you’re resisting therapy?” Charlie asked.
Shawn’s voice was full of guilt, “Yes, I don’t want to be a burden to Emily, I thought it would be better if I just died.”
Charlie spoke softly, “You shouldn’t think like that.”
“When I shamelessly asked you for help, you found me a job and told your executives to look after me. But what did
I do? I caused you such a loss. I don’t deserve to live.”
Emily leaned against the wall, totally taken aback. Was her father’s job arranged by Charlie?
