Chapter 1712
On a Wednesday afternoon, just before knocking off, Cedric called Emily into his office.
Cedric was still his usual serious and aloof self, but there was a hint of warmth in his attitude towards Emily, a
certain appreciation for her talent. “Mr. Beck called me today. He said he’s quite pleased with the villa design you
worked on for him. Modern yet humane, he was very impressed”
Emily, thrilled at the affirmation, expressed her gratitude. “Thank you!”
“This is the first project you’ve handled on your own since you joined the firm. I’ve seen your design, it’s quite gocd
indeed!” Cedric said with a faint smile, “Tonight, Mr. Beck is hosting us. Firstly, you two haven’t met yet, and
secondly, he has some specific design requests he’d like to discuss with you face-to-face.”
“Sure, no problem!” Emily responded eagerly.
“Great, get ready then. We’ll head out after work,” Cedric said.

Back at her desk, Edgar wheeled over, raising an eyebrow in amusement, “What did Cedric want? Has he got
another project for you?”
“No!” Emily started organizing the design drafts for Mr. Beck, “The initial designs intricate details to be discussed.
Cedric has arranged a meeting with Mr. Beck tonight”
“Nervous?” Edgar asked, “My first client had me stuttering like crazy. She was this thirty-something lady, dolled up
in all kinds of designer brands, never gave anyone the time of day. She pointed out a million flaws in my work, even
swore at me. I was so upset I cried the minute I stepped out of her house”
Emily asked, “What happened then?”
“I started showing up at her place constantly, playing with her dog when she took it for walks, carrying her shopping
bags. I spent all day calling her ‘miss’ just to secure the project” Edgar sighed, “I felt less like a designer and more
like a salesperson. But when you’re struggling to make a mark, you can’t afford to have self-respect.”
After sharing a laugh. It was time to knock off. Emily made a quick call to Ms. Simmons before heading to find
Cedric.
Cedric drove Emily to the prearranged hotel.
Mr. Beck had chosen the Paragon Peaks Hotel, an incredibly luxurious and refined place. As soon as they entered,
they could smell a faint scent of sandalwood and even hear the soft echoes of classical music from the back
courtyard.
Once they were in the private dining room, the waiter brought in tea and a fruit platter. Mr. Beck hadn’t arrived yet.
About ten minutes later, Mr. Beck arrived. He was in his forties, dressed in a Polo shirt from a renowned
international brand, matching trousers, and shiny, black leather shoes. His hair was as glossy as his shoes, and he
was carrying a genuine leather briefcase.
Cedric stood up to greet him, smiling politely, “Mr. Beck!”
“Mr. Cedric!” Mr. Beck shook his hand, his demeanor friendly.

Upon seeing Emily, Mr. Beck paused for a moment, then his smile grew even brighter. He extended his hand to
Emily, “So, are you Ms. Emily?”
“Yes, nice to meet you!”
Emily extended her hand, which Mr. Beck immediately seized.
Mr. Beck beamed, his eyes fixated on Emily, “I knew from our conversations that Ms. Emily was bound to be a
beauty with brains. Meeting you today, I see I was right!”
Without letting go of her hand, he turned to Cedric, “Ms. Emily is truly remarkable. Many have attempted to design
for me, but their work was crap. Only Ms. Emily’s design caught my eye. It’s modern and comfortable, just what I
wanted!”
Emily calmly pulled her hand back, smiling lightly, “You’re too kind, Mr. Beck!”
Cedric stepped forward, positioning himself between Emily and Mr. Beck, “Let’s sit down and talk.”
“Absolutely!” Mr. Beck nodded vigorously, his smile never leaving his face as he kept sneaking glances at Emily.
