Chapter 266 On Monday, Helena forced Sarah out of the house to look for a job, her expression dark with frustration.

But by then, Sarah's announcement-the one she had made just days ago while driving through the streets with a megaphone-had already spread across Yewford Town.

Now, everyone knew the Fitzgerald family was nothing but a bunch of leeches. No one should ever accept their help, or they'd be stuck with them for life.

As Sarah walked down the town's busiest street, she felt the weight of countless judgmental stares pressing down on her.

Yewford Town might have been called a "town", but it wasn't that big. No matter where she went, it was all the sjust another corner of the splace.

Furious and on the verge of tears, Sarah snatched her phone from her pocket and dialed Simon's number.

"Simon, hurry up and getand Mom out of here! This shitty little town is impossible to live in. Those ignorant, brainless hillbillies have all been bought off by Janice, and they won't stop cursing at me." Nearby, an old man who happened to know the Fitzgerald family couldn't help but chin, "Hey, young lady, watch your mouth." Sure enough, within minutes, a crowd had gathered around her. Terrified, Sarah burst into loud sobs.

The moment Simon heard that Janice was in Yewford Town, he didn't waste a second and set off immediately.

By evening, Janice had just finished overseeing operations at the factory and was preparing to return to her hotel in town. Just one more day and she could move on to meet with other business owners.

Over the past few days, at various dinner meetings, the local business owners had all silently reached the sconclusion-none of them would be offering Simon any help.

As Janice stepped out of the factory, she spotted Simon, looking exhausted from his hurried journey.

She knew this street well. And the man standing in front of her... His figure overlapped with the shadow of someone from years ago, instantly pulling her back to the past.

If tcould turn back, would she still have chosen to date Simon? Probably.

But it was not for any sentimental reason. It was just because if she hadn't suffered at Simon's hands back then, she wouldn't be where she was today. And she who set have realized just how cruel and disgusting people could be.

"Mr. Fitzgerald," she greeted him first. She still had her dignity, after all.

But the way she said "Mr. Fitzgerald" now felt like a slap to Simon's face. It was a sharp and burning slap.

Back then, she had dressed plainly, even looking a little frumpy, but she had been simple and sincere. Now she wore a designer coat, a custom- made blouse, and limited-edition heels, with a luxury car waiting beside her.

Regret gnawed at Simon, and it kept growing stronger by the second. If things had gone differently, would they have been happy now? Shaking off the thought, he stepped forward and asked, "Janice, why did you open a factory here?" Janice raised an eyebrow. "Sorry, that's classified company information. I can't disclose it." Simon hesitated, looking a little embarrassed. "Con, there's no need to be so distant. We grew up together, after all."

The driver opened the car door, but Janice didn't move just yet. "There's nothing between us worth holding onto. Watch what you say. I wouldn't want my boyfriend to get the wrong idea."

Seeing her about to leave, Simon blurted out, "Janice, you can fool everyone else, but not me. You chose to open your factory in Yewford Town because deep down, you still miss the old days, don't you? You still miss me."

Janice looked at him like he had just said something incomprehensible. Her driver and bodyguards exchanged glances, speechless. And Luther, who had just arrived after hearing the commotion, stared at Simon like he was the biggest idiot alive.

So, this was what it took to walk out of this small town? A level of shameless confidence beyond imagination?
