Chapter 75

A Rolls Royce rolled into the gates of Silverlake Harbor, the vintage-style buildings standing tall and

majestic under the sunset

The moment the gates opened, the ser vants were all abuzz.

“The Miss is back!”

Evadne and Cas sius had barely stepped out of the car when they saw the butler and the ser vants

lined up on both sides, bowing respectfully.

“Welcome home, Miss!”

“Miss, may you be forever happy and healthy!”

Evadne smiled in response, saying. “The same to you guys.”

Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out.

“Evadne! You’re finally back! We’ve missed you so much!”

Following the sound, she saw Suri and a short-haired woman rushing towards her. The woman was

dressed in a purple satin shirt and black wide-leg trousers and was tall and beautiful. She was Emeric

Ashbourne’s last and youngest wife, Aviana Ashbourne.

“Suri, Aviana.” Evadne smiled and greeted them with a warm hug.

Cas sius watched this scene with mixed feelings.

The Ashbourne family was Skyrim’s top family, with complicated relationships and numerous family

feuds. When Aviana joined the Ashbourne family, all hell broke loose. That’s why Evadne left home to

become a doctor without borders, leading a tough and nomadic life. But these three women slowly

melted her indifference with their sincerity. while Cas sius shared many stories about them, helping

Evadne gradually accept them.

The problem now was that if there was anyone to blame, it was their father, Emeric.

“Evadne, you’ve lost weight.” Aviana looked at Evadne with a reproachful look. “Cas sius, if you’re too

busy to take care of Evadne, just spit it out; we can help. You said you would help Evadne gain weight,

but now she looks like a skinny monkey. You owe me an explanation.”

Cas sius chuckled, “My bad, my bad, I’ll make it right.”

Evadne chimed in, “Aviana, you know I’m the type who can eat and not gain weight. Cas sius even

brought his chief secretary, Jason, to take care of me. You know Jason’s cooking skills; I’m well taken

care of every day so you guys don’t have to worry.”

Aviana laughed in response, saying, “I don’t buy it. Can Jason’s cooking skills compare to Myra’s?

Myra has been busy preparing ingredients since she heard you were coming back. She’s been in the

kitchen all day, not even taking a sip of water. Your dad said it’s like she’s preparing for a state banquet,

even more formal than entertaining foreign dignitaries.”

Evadne chuckled, “Myra is taking it too seriously; I said a family dinner would be enough; it’s all about

the reunion.”

“We all offered to help her, but she insisted on doing it herself because she said she doesn’t trust

anyone else’s cooking skills.”

Suri sighed lightly, laughing. “Myra may seem the gentlest, but who knew she could be so stubborn?

She’s truly uncontrollable.”

“Myra doesn’t distrust you, Suri; she distrusts Aviana, right?”

Evadne giggled, “After all, after you burnt the pot four times, set off the fire alarm three times, and blew

up the stove twice, she doesn’t dare let you anywhere near the kitchen.”

“Evadne, can you not always reveal my shortcomings? We’re still friends, right?” Aviana raised an

eyebrow, reaching out to tickle Evadne.

“Friends, the best of friends! Haha!”

They started fooling around like children.

Whenever Evadne thought about Myra Barlow Ashbourne, she would remember her days as

Thaddeus’s wife in the Abernathy family.

She lived like she was walking on thin ice for those three years, careful not to upset Thaddeus or the

Abernathy family.

She only endured for three years, and it felt like she had been skinned alive. Myra had been there for

twenty years; how did she manage?

Women shouldn’t have to be so humble for men; they should be independent, strong, and beautiful,

blossoming proudly like flowers in the snow, not wasting away in a mansion; it would be such a waste.

A large crowd gathered around Evadne, everyone happily accompanying her into the villa.

The evening breeze was refreshing, as was the moon’s crescent.

A Maybach quietly parked outside Silverlake Harbor, enveloped by the lonely night.

Gordon opened the car door, and Thaddeus got out of the car with his long legs, his deep eyes looking

at the gate across the street.

“I’ve heard that Chairman Emeric has a penchant for vintage European architecture and has dozens of

estates all over the country. Now that I’m here, it seems the rumors were true.”

Gordon admired the elegant and cla**ic architecture of Silverlake Harbor: “This is like paradise on

earth; it’s truly breathtaking. It even outshines the Windermere Estate.”

Realizing he might have said something wrong, he quickly turned away and smacked his lips in self-

reproach.

Thaddeus’s eyes were dark, darker than the night sky, reflecting the brightly lit Ashbourne family. He

could faintly hear the laughter and chatter, feeling as if his heart was submerged in a winter lake, the

cold spreading throughout his body.

Ilana, as Cas sius’s girlfriend, was very popular in the Ashbourne family.

At first, he thought the Ashbourne group’s relationships were complicated. Emeric had three wives

besides his deceased wife. Although they were not officially married, they each had offspring in the

Ashbourne family.

Ilana wanted to marry into the Ashbourne family. Those three wives were like three mountains so her

situation would definitely be very difficult then she might choose to back down.

But who would’ve thought she actually got along so well with Cas sius’s family that he could hear their

laughter from miles away?

The Ashbourne family folks seemed to like her so much.

Thaddeus’s face was getting paler and paler, and his heart was filled with an unprecedented sense of

misery as he felt like he was having trouble breathing.

“Do you have a cigarette? I could use one.”

“Emeric! I’m back!” Evadne shouted as soon as she entered the living room.

“Could you be any slower? I’m about to pa** out from hunger!”

Emeric grumbled, striding over with Arnold following behind.

“Wow, you’re looking sharp, Emeric. What’s with the formal getup? Trying to outshine everyone else?”

Evadne joked, giving her dad a once-over.

Emeric was dressed in a waistcoat over a white shirt, a fine gold watch chain hanging from his lapel.

Despite his age, his face was still handsome and clear-cut. He looked every bit the wealthy duke from a

TV drama.

“Do I need to try to outdo you guys?” Emeric raised an eyebrow and said, “I could be in a movie with

my casual outfits. If it was thirty years ago, I’d be on posters being admired by countless women,

alright?”

“Uh, Dad, that’s a bit ominous; the ‘admired’ ones are usually dead.” Arnold reminded him quietly.

“Can you shut up? Who would know if you didn’t say anything?” Emeric shot him a glare.

Everyone else knew, except for Emeric!

“Where are the others? You didn’t tell Daryl and Aaron to come back, did you?” Evadne asked with

concern.

“Miss, would we dare not follow your orders?” Suri replied with a knowing smile, “Don’t worry, we didn’t

tell them.”

“Hmm, so you guys intentionally didn’t let those jerks come back? I was wondering why they were so

heartless! They didn’t even know!”

Emeric sighed regretfully. “Ah, it’s a family dinner tonight; you should have called the kids back for a

reunion!”

“Daryl Ashbourne married into the Helgen family; it’s so far away, how could you ask her to travel

back? Aaron is busy with cases at the police station, and our youngest sister has exams coming up

and needs to study. It’s not convenient for her to leave school. Stop complaining! Isn’t this crowd

enough for you?” Evadne gave her father a piece of her mind.

“What about Elvis? He’s always idling around, doing nothing. He’s in Elmsworth; it’s only a two-hour

drive. Why didn’t he come? Is he dead?” Emeric was clearly irritated when he brought up his fourth

son.

“Elvis, he.” Before Evadne could finish, a clear and pleasant voice came from behind.

“I was waiting for you to scold me. If you didn’t speak up, how would I have a chance to appear?”

Everyone turned around to see Elvis, hands in the pockets of his black trench coat, a mischievous

smile on his handsome face as he sauntered over.

“Chairman Emeric, I’m still alive, much to your disappointment.”

As soon as Elvis appeared, Suri and Aviana hurriedly stepped back, their smiles fading.

They knew that Elvis detested this family and them even more. So it was best to stay out of sight at this

time.

Evadne breathed a sigh of relief.

As expected, Elvis, always appearing and disappearing unexpectedly, avoiding this family like the

plague.

“Where’s dinner? Is it ready yet? I thought we were eating. Let’s get on with it so I can go about my idle

and aimless ways.”

As he spoke, Elvis’s meaningful gaze fell on Evadne.

His expression seemed to say: I’ve done my part; don’t be angry anymore.

Evadne’s eyes flickered, and she deliberately avoided his gaze.

The atmosphere in the living room instantly lightened.

Emeric, frustrated, rubbed his cheek and expressionlessly walked up to his son.

“Send me one of your recent photos.”

“Why?”

“I’m afraid that one day you’ll actually be gone, and I won’t even have a photo to remember you by!

Send it to me now!”
