Chapter 631 Being Honest With Claire
As the cane was about to strike again, Lily felt sorry for her son and couldn't bear it any longer. She quickly called
out, “Dad!”
In an attempt to protect her son, she stood up and positioned herself in front of Kendrick, using her body as a
shield. “Dad, Kendrick's body is frail and can't endure your beatings. If you're angry, then hit me instead!”
With every additional blow of the cane, Kendrick was certain to suffer a serious injury. Lily's heart could no longer
take it. She could not stand seeing her son in pain.
When Jeffrey saw his daughter-in-law stand in his way, he sighed heavily, his hand trembling slightly. “You spoil this
brat too much, which is why he has become such a lawless person! Kendrick is an adult now. You cannot treat him
like a child anymore, Lily. It will only make things worse for him!”
Lily's lips curled slightly, revealing a sarcastic grin.
Jeffrey had never said anything when Allie's son caused other women to become pregnant before marriage, but
when her son committed the same mistake, he began to speak of tarnishing the family's reputation. That biased
attitude disgusted her.
Nonetheless, she did not confront her father-in-law. Instead, she obediently said, “I understand, Dad. I will educate
Kendrick thoroughly and ensure that he takes responsibility for Rachel. Rachel is, after all, the daughter of a
prominent family. We cannot mistreat her under any circumstances.”
With that said, Lily deliberately glanced at Allie with a smug expression.
Then, her gaze lingered on Avery for a few seconds.
Even though she did not say anything, the contempt in her eyes was obvious.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAvery had long been aware of the conflicts and grudges between Allie and Lily, but it didn't bother her much.
Allie, on the other hand, felt uncomfortable when she noticed Lily's disdainful gaze.
She forcefully placed the cup on the coffee table and said, “What's with the arrogance? She's just the daughter of a
deputy secretary. My son will marry the daughter of the state secretary, not the daughter of a deputy-level official.
The daughter of the state secretary is desperate to marry Cayden, and there's nothing I can do about it. It's all
because I've got such an outstanding son.”
She pretended to fan herself gracefully as she cast a knowing glance Avery's way.
Allie's strong dislike for her daughter-in-law, whom she used to despise, seemed to have subsided at that point. At
that instant, Allie made up her mind to tell Claire the truth.
She would never let Lily get the better of her.
After all, Lily's daughter-in-law was only the daughter of a deputy secretary, whereas her daughter-in-law was the
daughter of the state secretary.
Lily clenched her teeth in rage at Allie's arrogant attitude. “Are you still fantasizing about Mr. Lambert's daughter?
Unfortunately, your dream is destined to be shattered. Do you think they will agree to the marriage? They will not
give a damn about you! Furthermore, the Lambert family's so-called daughter is simply an orphan whom they
adopted from an orphanage. Despite being well-cared for by the Lambert family, everyone knows she is a phony.
Rachel, on the other hand, is a true lady who was born with a silver spoon.”
Lily sounded incredibly scornful, thinking Nicole was the daughter of the state secretary Allie was referring to.
Allie just sneered and did not explain anything.
She would show Lily who was superior once she revealed Avery's identity to Claire and after Avery regained her
status as the Lambert family's daughter.
Unable to bear the foul atmosphere in the living room, Cayden gently pulled Avery into his embrace and said, “Let's
go upstairs first.”
Avery looked around the living room and noticed Jeffrey was still enraged. Seeing that, she hesitated for a moment.
“Don't worry. Grandpa is in good health,” Cayden reassured. He then led Avery upstairs without looking back.
Although Avery was a bit worried, she understood that the issues involving Lily and her son were not something she
could interfere with.
Hence, she obediently followed Cayden upstairs.
Rory and Zachary rushed over as soon as they walked into the room, especially Rory, who had not even had time to
put on her slippers.
She hugged Avery's thigh and acted coquettishly, saying, “Mommy, Zach and I miss you so much!”
Since Jeffrey was dealing with matters in the living room and it was not appropriate for the children to be present,
the twins were ordered to remain in the room.
Zachary and Rory were very well-behaved. When they saw their great-grandfather's grim expression, they did not
make a scene like before and sat quietly in their room to do their homework.
However, children were naturally playful. They were eager to go outside to play, but Jeffrey forbade them from
doing so. Naturally, they would be overjoyed to see their mother return.
Avery clumsily squatted down to Rory's eye level and pinched her chubby cheeks, saying, “Rory, you seem to have
gained some weight these few days. You do not look like you miss me at all.”
Rory pouted. In an attempt to prove herself, she held Zachary's hand, asking him to be her witness. “Mommy, if you

sleep well because I miss her so much.”
Zachary rolled his eyes at his silly and adorable sister. “Yes, you think about Mommy a hundred times a day. In the
family, you are the one who eats the most and enjoys eating the most. Look in the mirror. You are turning into a
fatty pig. Nobody will like you in the future.”
“Bad Zach! You're so mean!” Rory pointed her small, delicate finger angrily at her handsome brother.
“My baby girl, no one would dare to marry you when you grow up if you have such a fiery temper at such a young
age.” Avery could not help but laugh as she gently pinched her daughter's nose.
Rory turned her head to the side, touched Avery's big tummy, and said proudly, “I don't want to get married. I want
to stay with Daddy and Mommy forever! I want to take care of the little baby with Mommy in the future.”
Her words caused the entire family to burst out laughing, and Cayden's lips curled into a gentle smile.
Avery fondly ruffled her daughter's hair and said with a gentle smile, “Silly little girl.”
Despite being nearly eight months pregnant, she had not checked the baby's gender. It was not necessary in her
opinion, and she would be content with either a boy or a girl.
She did, however, wish the baby in her tummy would be just as adorable and cute as Rory.
Avery felt that having two considerate and lovely daughters would be quite nice.
Claire's neck was injured, but it wasn't serious, so she returned to the Lambert residence to rest.
When William learned about it, he rushed back.
Fearing her strict father's reprimand, Nicole sat by herself on the couch in the living room, pretending to watch
television, but she would occasionally look in the direction of her parents' room anxiously.
In the room, William was consoling his wife. Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
Nicole was startled by the ringing of the doorbell.
She hurriedly ran to the door and looked through the peephole, only to see Allie standing outside.
