Although Evangeline felt disgruntled, she could still think rationally.

She was aware that the only reason she was able to snag this job was because of Avery.

Otherwise, she would have definitely been eliminated if she were to apply for a job at Trident Group based on her

own capabilities, even if she was an undergraduate from an elite university.

Yeah... I know where I stand. After all, Trident Group's talent selection system is almost harsh to the point of being

abnormal. The minimum education level for applicants is a master's degree, so that means I can't even pass the

first round.

With that thought in mind, she couldn't help but think of how lucky she was.

Just as Avery was working diligently, Evangeline found herself inadvertently glancing at her from time to time.

Cayden Moore, marry her.

something special about her for Mr. Dartsley to bring her in himself.”

Her other colleague replied, “I have no idea, but it seems like her qualifications don't really meet our company's

recruitment requirements. Could she have been specially recruited?”

Another colleague chimed in, her tone dripping with a hint of disdain, “Who knows? To be honest, in the few years

I've worked at Trident Group, this is the first time I've seen an undergraduate employee. Besides, if you look at her

work experience, it said that she worked at a company named Prosperity Construction before. I've never even

heard of that company's name, so I bet it must be a small company. Even if they are specially selecting talent, they

should have opted to select from companies that are on par with us. I wonder how did an employee from such a

Due to the fact that the HR department would send a welcome email to all employees' work mailboxes, which

This was also why the employees in the design department couldn't help but make comments about Evangeline

after seeing her information.

Although those gossipmongers tried their best to speak softly, Evangeline still heard their every word and found

their whispering to be grating to her ears, making her wish she could tear those women's mouths apart.

Naturally, Avery also heard them.

She put aside her current task before dragging her heavy body and moving toward where Evangeline was sitting.

She then handed the latter a few copies of the company's internal design materials before patting her on the

shoulder with a smile. “Evangeline, these are some of the company's internal files. Take a look at them first and get

yourself familiarize with our workflow as soon as possible. As for those gossip in the company, just pretend you

didn't hear them and treat them as jokes. To be honest, when I first came to Trident Group, I also suffered from

various rumors, but as time goes by and you prove your ability, they won't dare to say anything anymore. In Trident

Group, any form of verbal dispute is just a waste of time, and your capability determines your strength. I believe

you'll do a great job.”

Evangeline looked at her gratefully, but there was still a hint of disappointment on her face when she said, “Thank

you, Avery. You're probably the only one in the company who actually welcomes me.”

Although Evangeline's previous employer, Prosperity Construction, was a small private enterprise, she served as a

design manager there and was used to giving orders to others. As such, there was no way she could tolerate others

criticizing her.

Nonetheless, she could only start over from the bottom as a regular employee once she joined Trident Group.

Even though her salary almost doubled, she still lost her former sense of superiority, which was a huge change for

her to get accustomed to.

Avery whispered in her ear, “Don't think too much about it. It's normal to have an adjustment period when you first

come to a new company. Once you get through this period, everything will get better. Every company has

employees who like to gossip, so just ignore them. They can say whatever they like, after all. We just need to focus

on doing our work. Besides, I'm not the only one who welcomes you to the company. Trevor, Cecelia, and Nina are

happy about you joining the company too, aren't they?”

In response, Evangeline raised her head and glanced toward where the head of the design department, Trevor,

Cecelia, and Nina were sitting.

Perhaps sensing her gaze, the three of them looked up from their work in unison and met her slightly uneasy eyes

with a kind smile.

Evangeline suddenly felt a sense of relief coursing through her.

When she turned to look at Avery, who was still smiling at her, she seemed to have a little understanding of why

Cayden had married her.

I guess it's only natural that a woman who is so kind and empathetic, with a gentle and graceful temperament that

is akin to a blooming flower, to have any man fall head over heels for her. That being said, I'm actually not too bad

Evangeline touched the valuable bracelet that Nicole gave her and thought about the DNA results that would be

available that day. She then imagined the possibility that she might be William's daughter as an inscrutable

expression spread across her face.

If I really turn out to be a wealthy heiress, I'll be able to go from rags to riches. Not to mention how my previously

miserable and impoverished life will undergo an earth-shattering transformation!

When Avery saw that Evangeline seemed to have calmed down a lot, she returned to her seat.

Just when she was about to start working, Belle, who was dressed in a well-fitted suit, came over with a steaming

hot drink that smelled of milk.

Being one of the four secretaries of Cayden, the latter was a tall and beautiful woman with exceptional work

Avery sure is bold to allow such a stunner to stay at Mr. Moore's side. Isn't she worried that the two will develop

feelings for each other over time? After all, men are creatures that think with their lower bodies.

Evangeline knew all too well that affairs were most likely to happen between bosses and their secretaries in a

company.

The case is especially true when it comes to a man as amazing as Cayden. I'm certain the secretary must have

fantasized about him, so why isn't Avery worried that she will try to seduce him? Is it because she has full

confidence in Cayden? Or is she just too naive and doesn't know the danger that could arise from having such a

beauty around her husband?

Just when Evangeline was deep in thought, Belle greeted Avery.

She bent down and placed the hot drink in front of Avery before saying respectfully, “Ms. Rumpley, this is the drink

that Mr. Moore prepared for you. He said that you didn't have a good appetite yesterday and didn't eat much, so he

specifically instructed me to make a cup of hot milk for you. Please enjoy it.”

“Thank you, Belle.” Avery felt warm and fuzzy inside as she held the cup of hot milk in her hands.

After flashing her a charming smile, Belle walked away from the design department with elegant strides.

Evangeline was stunned speechless as she watched all of this unfold. Good god! I can't believe that the CEO dotes
