Ian scooped Maja into his arms, while Omar hopped into the driver’s seat and drove off.
If he hadn’t caught a glimpse of the glinting muzzle in his rearview mirror, he wouldn’t have reacted in time. Maja
had been targeted, and bringing her to Ian was the safest option.
Maja, cradled in his arms, sobered quickly from the sense of weightlessness. A quick glance upward revealed a
familiar jawline, and she skipped a beat.
“Put me down.”
Ian’s face still bore the mark of a slap, and he gently set her on her feet.
As she tried to walk away, he blocked her path.
“Someone just tried to kill you.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHer steps faltered, and she found it amusing.
She stared at him, a mixture of mockery and even sarcasm in her eyes. “Do you know who tried to kill me?”
Ian remained silent, and she stepped closer.
“Must be your girlfriend. What you did in the private room tonight, it generated her intent to kill me. The stab
wound on Zoey’s abdomen, probably her doing. Now that Mr. Raymond has brought me into Greenfield Gardens, I
guess her revenge will come even sooner.”
Maja studied his face carefully, sighing in the end.
“Ian, we’re not a good match. I can’t handle your temper, and you can’t handle mine. Since you’ve decided to give
it a shot with Judith, you should provide her with more security, so she doesn’t feel the need to take it out on me.”
“Maja.”
At the mention of her name, Maja’s eyes filled with cold determination.
“Also, we’re only business partners now. You can call me Ms. Pennyfeather, if you prefer. Ian, let’s keep our dignity
intact. There’s no need for this to get ugly.”
Ian watched as she continued to walk away and quickly followed.
“Maja, I know I messed up this time, but you’re also keeping things from me. I only got together with Judith to make
you jealous.”
“Enough!”
Maja cut him off sharply.
Ian instantly shut up, his lips pressed into a thin line.
“Ian, if you truly loved me, you wouldn’t have rushed to Judith the moment we had a disagreement to spite me. If

listened to my explanation and trusted me! If you had any genuine feelings for me, you’d have changed your bad
temper. Why should everyone else have to accommodate your feelings? If a man who is courting me took me as
his wife, and I openly enjoy the title. How would you feel? Ian, you never consider things from my side. You didn’t
even respond when I said Judith wanted to kill me. You’re wavering because you believe I, Maja, don’t love you as
much, so you think you can treat me casually.”
She had reached the entrance of Greenfield Gardens, but there were no taxis in sight. She had no choice but to
continue walking.
Ian followed, his heart feeling as though it had been punctured.
“I’ll change. I will.”
He probably didn’t know what else to say. After a long moment of silence, he managed to utter these five words, his
eyes reddening as he looked at her.
He reached out, grabbing her wrist. “Maja, as long as you break off with Eric, I’ll change everything.”
No sooner had he finished speaking than he was slapped again.
