Chapter 112
Katrina sat at her desk, typing furiously as inspiration flowed through her. She glanced at the clock and smiled,
grateful for Kylan keeping Clarence entertained so she could work. The sound of giggles followed by a squeal of
laughter made her pause. She turned her head
toward the door, her curiosity piqued. The laughter continued, Kylan's deep chuckle mingling with Clarence's
delighted squeals.
Katrina stood, stretching, and wandered to the doorway. Peeking out, she saw Kylan and Clarence lying on the
floor, both engrossed in a lively conversation. She crouched beside them, a warm smile spreading across her
face.
"What are my two favorite humans talking about?" she asked.
Kylan turned his head and grinned. "She wants more siblings, and I'm not opposed to the idea." Katrina playfully
poked his cheek. "We've talked about this, Honey. Not until Clarence is older." Clarence scrambled to her feet
and toddled over to her, her face lighting up. "Ma! Ma! Ma!"
She scooped her up and kissed her cheek. Settling onto the floor, she placed Clarence on her lap and handed her
a toy. "As | was saying," she continued, "I want to wait until this little one is older. | know Clarence is almost five

to run around after two very young kids. You're amazing with her, Kylan, but two little ones might be a handful

Kylan leaned over and kissed her cheek. "I get it. | just wish | were hmore to make it easier."
Katrina turned her head, her lips brushing his. "We both wish for that. Clarence is not a problem and she's not
fussy at all and rarely cries it's just... I'm sorry, this is not coming out right. What | mean to say is, | love being
with Clarence, | love being a mum and a wife, but..."
"You missedand so does Clarence."
Katrina looked at Kylan and nodded. "Yes."
""And Katrina wished forto be hmore."
Katrina nodded. "Yes."
"You wish you were still my assistant?" he teased, winking.
Katrina chuckled. "I do miss that job. But mostly because | want to check up on you often."
He hugged her tightly. "You were the best assistant | ever had. You know that, right?"
Just then, Kylan's work phone buzzed. He sighed, pulling away. Katrina stood and picked up Clarence. "You should
answer that. Con, baby, let's read sbooks."
Kylan watched them walk away, guilt settling in his chest as he answered the call. "Kylan here."
"Hello, Sir," Isabella's voice cthrough, bright and chipper. She was lying on her bed but when he answered,
she sat up excitedly. "I'm calling to let you know that all the meetings you've planned were accepted. Everyone
said yes!"
"Great news," he replied, glancing toward the living room where Katrina and Clarence were now reading
together. "Thanks for lettingknow."
"You're welcome. | was thinking we could celebrate with the team. Maybe drinks?"
"No, thank you. I'm not into parties."
"I'll handle the planning," she offered quickly. "Don't worry about a thing."
"| said no, Isabella." He needed to get away from her as much as he could. That dream he had, even if it was
once, was too much and he couldn't let any woman invade his mind other than his two girls.
She hesitated, clearly reluctant to end the conversation. "Actually... | kind of needed this, Sir. It's been a tough
day. My boyfriend dumpedand calledhorrible things."
Kylan frowned. "What kind of things?"
"Oh, nothing, really. He said I'm ugly, fat, and not worth his time."
Kylan sighed heavily. He couldn't be bothered by his assistant's love life and heartbreak, but he also couldn't
afford her to be distracted at work. "That guy is an *sshole. You're a lovely, intelligent woman, Isabella. Don't let
him make you feel less than you are." "Thanks, Kylan," she said softly, her voice tinged with emotion.
Before he could respond, Katrina appeared in the doorway, Clarence on her hip. Her eyes shimmered with
unshed tears. "We're heading outside to plant flowers. You can go and continue your meeting somewhere else."
"Honey..." he began, but she turned and left. Kylan quickly ended the call. "I've got to go, Isabella. | am not going
to the party. See you at work."
Rushing outside, he found Katrina kneeling on a blanket with Clarence, planting seeds. She wiped her eyes
quickly and smiled at their daughter. "It's okay, cutie. Mommy's fine."

Katrina cleared her throat. "This is too dirty for you, so you can go sit inside or do something else."
He knelt down. "I'm sorry, but it
wasn't what it sounded like, | promise. Her boyfriend left her and called her names, bad ones, and made her feel
like sh*t, so | was just making her feel better. | thought it was the right thing to do."
Katrina shrugged. "It's none of my business."
He gently cupped her face. "It is. | love you, Katrina. You're the only person who matters to me. The only one |
see. I'm sorry it sounded so bad for you."
Katrina sighed. "Kylan, | said it's none of my business."
He squeezed Katrina. "Please don't be mad at me." He buried his face in the crook of her neck. "Please.
She sighed but leaned into his touch. "I've told you before, | know you'd never cheat onever. | know that you
were trying to cheer someone up, but it did sting a little. You were never being so sweet to another person
because you were always horrible to everyone," she added with a hint of a playful smile on her face.
He frowned. "I am?"
Katrina chuckled. "Exceptand Clarence of course."
"I'm sorry," he said earnestly. "Please don't be upset."
She smiled at him. "I'm not. Let's move on, okay?"
Kylan glanced at Clarence, who was happily clapping her hands. "She really likes gardening with you."
Katrina smiled. "She does. Hey, actually, you should keep an eye on this little muffin here."
