Chapter 203
For all these years, the Revelle family had been telling the public that Zephyr was Veronique's sister's
child.
No one else but a few of Veronique's close friends knew about Zephyr's real identity.
“How did you know about Zephyr's identity?”
Right as Artemis parted his lips to reply, he saw Veronique walking out of the operating room. Instantly,
he clamped his mouth shut and shot Bailey a look.
Bailey blinked in confusion, thinking, What the h*ll is this man trying to tell me this time?
“Stay with Ms. Revelle here. There are some things I need to deal with in the company, so I'll leave
first.”
Hearing that, Bailey became even more confused.
She sensed that the man knew about something.
After watching him leave, Bailey turned to look at Veronique, confounded. With a frown, she asked,
“How did Artemis learn about Zephyr's identity?”
Veronique slightly inclined her head and muttered, “Zayron sent Simon's blood sample to Zephyr.
Artemis was secretly looking into it, and he ended up investigating Zephyr as well. Perhaps he figured it
out when he thought about how Zephyr looks like me and about how I suddenly left Hallsbay for many
years seven years ago.”
Bailey lifted her hand to massage the spot between her eyes. “Forget it. Let's not talk about him
anymore. That man is powerful, and it's a piece of cake for him to look into anything. Let's talk about
Zephyr's situation instead; what are you planning to do next?”
Veronique slumped on the couch and buried her face in her hands. She mumbled, “Bay, you saw his
situation. In your professional opinion, how long do you think he'll be able to live?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtBailey walked over to sit beside her and hugged her. “Zephyr's already in the late stage of his illness.
You should know that patients like him can usually only live for about three months. However, if we go
for the hormone treatment, I can ensure that he has eight more months to live.”
At that, she sighed. After steeling herself, she went on, “Vero, you have no time to hesitate anymore
because god isn't giving us the chance to. Look for Zephyr's father. Maybe his father can save him.
Even if we assume the worst—that his father's bone marrow isn't a match for him—you can bear
another child and use the baby's cord blood to save him.”
“No. N-No. I can't look for him. I can't!” Veronique shook her head vigorously before muttering in a
miserable tone. “Bay, you don't understand how complicated our issue is. He doesn't love me, and he
even hates me. If he finds out that I've given birth to his son behind his back, he'll... he'll...”
At that point, she began bawling.
Bailey shook her head and sighed. She did not know what she could do to persuade Veronique at the
sight of her misery.
A man would never understand another man's bitter feelings; only the ones in the situation would know
the pain.
“Vero, I'm sorry, but there isn't any medicine meant for leukemia yet. Even surgery won't be able to
treat an illness like this. There really isn't anything I can do about this.”
“I know,” Veronique choked out. “You've already tried your best. I'm weak for being too afraid to look for
his father. I'm selfish for ignoring the boy's chance of living. Someone like me should go to hell.”
“Veronique, what nonsense are you talking about? Every life has its own fate, and this isn't your fault,
so don't blame yourself for this.”
“Bay, give me a few more days. Since I've already brought Zephyr back to Hallsbay, I'll find his father. I
just need a little more time to prepare myself mentally.”
“All right.” Bailey reached out to pat her back and smiled. “You have my support for any decision you
make.”
After Artemis left the lab, he drove to where Justin was.
When Artemis entered the infirmary's study, Justin was in the middle of reading documents by the
table.
Artemis did not know if he was too quiet or if Justin was too focused, but Justin did not realize it when
he entered the room.
“What are you looking at?”
Justin jumped in surprise and quickly shoved the documents he had in his hands into the drawer.
“Nothing. It's just the medical records of a friend with cancer, and I was having some difficulties reading
it. Why are you here?”
When Artemis noticed that his anxious demeanor was born out of his attempt to avoid him, he arched a
brow and asked, “You've never kept anything from me, so what's making you want to keep this medical
record a secret?”
Justin stiffened.
The documents he was looking at earlier were the result of the paternity test between Simon and
Zayron and the genetic data of Artemis and Simon.
He had learned a shocking secret when he read the papers.
As it turned out, Simon's genetic data were an exact match for Artemis'.
What did that mean?
That meant that the blood sample was not Simon's but Artemis'.
Maxton had stolen the wrong sample.
In other words, Zayron was not Simon's child; Zayron was Artemis' son.
Ha. Haha... What in the world is this? What am I looking at?
“My friend, let me ask you something. Have you ever sleep with women other than Rhonda?”
Artemis narrowed his eyes and asked, “What do you mean?”
“Nothing. I'm just curious if you've left a child or two of yours around in some corner of this big world.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmArtemis reached out his bony hand and gently knocked the table. He then slowly replied, “I should be
the one asking you this. Did you do anything with a woman seven years ago?”
Justin was taken aback by his question. “What do you mean?”
Artemis raised a brow and chuckled. “Nothing. I'm just curious if you've left a child or two of yours
around in some corner of this big world too.”
Justin fell silent as the corners of his lips twitched. He's deflecting.
Artemis then walked to the wine cabinet and fished out a bottle of red wine. After filling up two glasses,
he returned to the desk and handed one of the glasses to Justin.
“I heard a while back that you're marrying soon. Have you decided on a wedding date yet?”
Justin took the wine glass from him and muttered, “It's an engagement from our childhood. As long as
my grandfather's happy, I'm fine with it. To me, a woman's only for ensuring that there is the next
generation.”
“Is that so?” Artemis raised his glass and sipped on it. He then curiously asked, “Veronique was quite
persistent in courting you back then. Do you not feel anything for her at all? Instead of marrying a
woman you don't love, why don't you marry Veronique instead? At the very least, you can develop
feelings for her, right?”
Justin chuckled, but there was no joy in his eyes. In fact, the look he had was a cold one. “The Fletcher
family in the capital has military and political power. Our family, the Xuereb family, won't be able to bear
the consequences of me breaking the engagement, even if we're a prestigious family of doctors. I was
indifferent to Veronique's courtship back then because I didn't want her to become the Fletcher family's
target. Now that she has gotten over me, why should I make things tough for her again?”
Artemis froze before narrowing his eyes. “Are you telling me that you've rejected Veronique because of
the Fletcher family's influence? So you actually have feelings for her?”
“Is that important?” Justin slowly rose to his feet with his palms on the table. “As long as the Fletcher
family is well and thriving, I can't break off the engagement. I'm destined to be the Fletcher family's son-
in-law, and no one can save me from that fate. Even if I don't love Scarlett Fletcher, I have to marry
her.”
