Winnie rushed downstairs and returned to her home. As expected, she saw Jacinta, who fell in the
bathroom.
She hurriedly asked, “Granny, are you hurt? Can you still move your legs? How about your lower
back?”
“Ouch!” Jacinta put her hand on her waist. “My legs are fine. It’s just that my waist and rib cage hurt. I
probably sprained my lower back.”
“And your rib cage as well?” Winnie asked. She learned traditional medicine from Sebastian for some
time, and she had some experience in dealing with injuries like gunshot wounds and fractures.
Therefore, she reached out to touch Jacinta’s ribs. “Let me see if there’s a fracture.”
Jacinta inhaled sharply in pain. “I don’t think it’s a fracture. It’s probably just muscle strain.”
Winnie nodded. “Right. There is indeed no problem with your bones, but the possibility of a fissure
fracture is not ruled out. I can’t detect it by mere palpation. We can only go to the hospital to take an X-
ray to find out. I’ll send you to the hospital.”
Jacinta refused her immediately, “There’s no need for that! It’s just a sprain. It’s getting late. I just want
to rest. Let me sleep first, and if it still hurts tomorrow, you can bring me to the hospital. If it doesn’t hurt
tomorrow, we don’t need to go, then.”
It was indeed getting late at the moment. Winnie agreed thinking that it was not a serious injury.
“I’ll help you to the bed first. Even if it’s a sprain, it’s best to go to the hospital to get some medicine
tomorrow.”
Jacinta sighed. “It’s my bad for being careless. It doesn’t affect you and Xavier, does it?”
Winnie shook her head. “No. I was the one who wasn’t thoughtful enough. I’ll ask someone to put a
non-slip mat in the bathroom tomorrow.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAs Winnie said that, she helped Jacinta to her feet slowly.
After Jacinta was brought to bed, she asked, “What if I need to use the bathroom in the middle of the
night?”
“Of course, I’ll help you. I’ll sleep here with you tonight,” Winnie replied.
“You’re not going up?”
“Nope, I’m not. I’ll stay here to take care of you. You should rest first. Let me bring over a glass of water
for you.”
Jacinta nodded. “All right. I’m thirsty.”
After leaving Jacinta’s room, Winnie fished out her phone and sent a message to Xavier, saying that
she wouldn’t go upstairs that night.
Xavier expected this would happen, so he was not surprised.
The two exchanged a couple of messages before Winnie put her phone away.
Jacinta usually went to bed early and couldn’t fall asleep in a lit room, so Winnie didn’t use her phone
on the bed after she turned off the lights.
Before they fell asleep, Jacinta and Winnie chatted for a while.
Jacinta asked, “Is Xavier living upstairs recently?”
Winnie answered, “Yes, it’s more convenient for him to go to his office from here. Besides, it’s also
close to my office as well. By the way, Granny, there’s something I haven’t had the chance to tell you.”
“Go on. What is it?”
“During the time when I returned to Yartran some time ago, Xavier also went there after I left and he
also met my grandparents there. Initially, they didn’t know him well, so they didn’t agree with me
marrying him. However, my brother tested Xavier, and he passed successfully. In the end, Grandpa
and Grandma approved of him. Granny, I’m very glad that my grandparents and my brother approved
of our marriage.”
Winnie said that because she knew Jacinta was not fond of Xavier. But Wilhelm, Grandpa, and
Grandma have approved of Xavier, so why can’t Granny?
Naturally, Jacinta caught the meaning behind Winnie’s words.
She thought for a while and said, “Xavier is an excellent man. Even the duke and the others
acknowledge him as your partner. But, Winnie, some impressions can’t be changed right away. I still
can’t forget the scene of Xavier pushing Captain Bennett down from the rooftop. He looked really
terrifying.”
“Granny, let’s not talk about this matter anymore. We should hit the hay,” Winnie responded. She knew
that Jacinta probably didn’t mean to bring up that matter, but she really didn’t want to recall that
moment.
The next morning, Jacinta woke up early, and Winnie was woken up by her movement.
Seeing that Jacinta wanted to get out of bed by herself, Winnie sat up at once. “Where are you going,
Granny?”
Jacinta put her hand on her sore back. “I’ll make breakfast. You can sleep for a while more. I’ll call you
when it’s ready.”
“No!” Winnie quickly lifted the thin quilt and got off the bed. “Let me do it. You should rest to relieve your
lower back pain.”
Jacinta gently massaged her waist. “It’s okay. It’s not painful anymore. I don’t need to go to the hospital
either. Go about your business today, and don’t worry about me. Ask Xavier to come back in the
evening and have dinner with us.”
“Really? Don’t push yourself too hard. You didn’t agree with me when I said we should find a
housekeeper to prepare meals for us.”
“Why do we need one? Doing housework is also a kind of exercise. I won’t be happy if you let me sit
and be idle all day long. You should lie down and sleep longer.”

While having breakfast, Jacinta asked, “Are you going to work with Xavier later?”
Winnie took a look at the clock before replying, “No. I won’t go to work today. I’m going to do something
elsewhere. As for Xavier, he probably will need to sleep an hour longer, so I won’t go with him. I’ll leave
immediately later.”
Jacinta glanced at her. “I told you you should sleep a little longer.”
“It’s fine. I’m fully rested.” Winnie smiled. She usually didn’t eat much in the morning, so she finished
her breakfast quickly.
After that, she changed her clothes and left.
Originally, she planned to go out straight away, but after looking at the time, she changed her mind all
of a sudden and went to Xavier’s house.
After opening the door, Winnie tiptoed into Xavier’s room.
Xavier was still sleeping. The curtains were tightly drawn, and the room was dark.
She walked over and kissed his lips lightly, thinking that he wouldn’t notice it.
To her surprise, just when she was about to leave, she was pinned down by the man under her.
“Seducing me so early in the morning? Why are you so naughty?” Xavier stretched out his hand and
pinched her chin.
Winnie gave him the side-eye. “I haven’t even started. When did you wake up? Were you trying to
scare me?”
“Nope, I was just trying to see what you were trying to do. I woke up the moment you opened the door.
I am a light sleeper.”
Upon hearing that Xavier slept lightly, Winnie couldn’t help but furrow her brows. “Why? I heard Josiah
say that the antidote developed by Professor White was pretty good. Why are you having insomnia?”
Xavier lowered his head and pecked her on the lips. “Are you really ignorant or are you just
pretending? I didn’t sleep well because I missed someone. I won’t let you go now.”
Winnie beckoned him to come closer with her finger. “Come here, then.”
