 Chapter 289

  Catherine's POV

I couldn't breathe. I felt that my eyelids were so heavy that I simply couldn't lift them.

  Was I dead?

The whirling, quivering sensation seemed to break my bones and plungeinto darkness.

No! I didn't want to die; it was not the tyet. I needed to watch Noah and Hedwig grow up and be there for them, and I wanted to marry Blake.

Everything aroundwas slowing down. I tried hard to breathe and fought to open my eyes.

  But I couldn't.

I felt trapped in a terrifying black hole, where there was nothing but silence. I could only hear the faint beating of my heart, which grew fainter and fainter.

  No...

Was there anyone to help me? I didn't want to die yet.

I had undone business and things to tell my loved ones.

The gentle moonlight cast over me. It was the Moon Goddess. She pointed in the direction behind me. I turned around and walked back.

  "Cathy..."

Suddenly, I heard a low and desperate male voice.

"Cathy, wake up. Open your eyes and look at me!" The voice was so familiar. It was Blake. It was the love of my life!

"You can't die. Can you hear me? You are not allowed to die! You must wake up!" Blake was extremely anxious.

"Wake up! Wake up! I need you!" I felt his tears dripping on my face. I could tell how hurt he was from his tone.

  He needed me...

Suddenly, a force pulledout of the darkness. I saw a familiar face, the moment I opened my eyes.

Blake's eyes were filled with tears.

My mind was still a little fuzzy since I had just woken up. Blake was holdingand it felt warm.

After more than two hours of surgery, I was pushed out of the operating room. My head was injured, and there were scratches and bruises on my legs. But I was grateful to be alive.

I couldn't imagine how much Blake suffered when I was sent to the hospital.

I wanted to touch his face and tell him that I was OK.

But I didn't have the strength and fell back to sleep.

I woke up again and found myself in the hospital room.

"Cathy... " Blake gently stroked my pale face. "Finally, you're awake. You scared me, you know it?"

"Blake..." I tried to call him, but I couldn't utter a sound. I didn't even have the strength to speak.

I wanted to shout his nout loud. I wanted to tell him I missed him so much. However, I couldn't utter a sound.

"Catherine, I'm here. Don't be afraid. You're all right now!" Blake leaned over; his lips pressed against my ear. He comfortedand said, "If you feel tired, just go back to sleep."

I was exhausted and my eyelids were heavy. Blake's voice madefeel safe, so I fell asleep again.

I knew Blake would always be there for me.

"Cathy, wake up, please! I'm begging you!"

In the coma, I thought I heard Blake's voice. But I was so tired, and his voice was so far away fromand I felt that I could never reach him.

I didn't know how long I had been walking. I saw a beam of white light in front of me, and I walked toward it.

  "Blake..."

  I finally called his name.

  "I'm here!" he said softly.

I opened my eyes and gradually adapted to the light. Blake was right in front of me.

When I was in the dark, Blake kept calling my name. His voice keptcompany and gavethe courage to cout of the darkness.

  "Water..." I moved my lips.

"OK, I'll get you swater." Blake pressed the bell and then went to get swater.

  Soon, Penelope rushed over.

"King Blake, is Catherine awake?" Penelope asked immediately.

"Yes. She just woke up. Do you need to give her a checkup?"

  Penelope nodded. "Yes, I do."

Penelope cto my side. She gavea quick check-up and then askeda few questions.

I answered her questions. Penelope nodded, turned to Blake, and said, "King Blake, she can have swater for now. I will cback to check on her later."

"Thanks." Blake nodded gratefully at Penelope.

After Penelope left, Blake helpedup gently. I leaned back on the pillow, while he was holding the cup.

I tried to reach for the cup, but my hand was still wrapped in gauze. Blake said gently, "Don’t move, lethelp you."

I was shy, yet I felt warm at the stsince he was so tender and considerate to me.

After drinking swater, I felt better. I said sadly, "What happened to my face? Do I look ugly now?"

"No. You are still pretty." Blake looked atgently.

"Really? Givethe mirror. I want to see it myself," I said at once.

"There is no mirror here, Cathy. Tellabout the accident and how it happened." Blake held my hand and looked concerned.

Then I remembered that there was something more important to tell him.

"I remember that there were several cars behind me. I wanted to give way to them, so I drove to the right side of the road. Then, someone hit my car from behind. I didn't have tto hit the brakes, and my car rolled over from the side fence instantly. I felt my body was about to crack, and the pain was killing me," I recalled the terrible scene, trembling, and I never wanted to experience it again in my life.

Blake's face was getting livid. He sounded mad. "Someone hit you on purpose, so your car flipped."

"Yes. I'm certain of it. I didn't get the chance to see the person's face, but I knew it wasn't my fault. Blake, you have to helpfind out." I swore someone wanteddead. It was terrifying. Who was trying to kill me?

"Don't worry. I will find out who did this to you, and this person is doomed. I will make him or her pay," Blake soothed me.

Tpassed quickly. It was already five in the afternoon.

Blake went out for sphone calls. I knew he was looking into my accident. He cared about my safety more than anyone.

After I woke up this time, I didn't fall asleep again.

I ate something and then lay on the bed, resting.

After a few calls, Blake pushed the door and cin. Since I was in a daze, he asked with concern, "What's wrong? Do you feel anything wrong?"

"I'm fine, but my head hurts a little. Maybe it's because I had an operation." I had four stitches on my head. The wound wasn't too bad, but I still needed to take good care of it.

"It is dark outside. Noah and Hedwig must have been at hby now. How should we tell them what had happened to me?" I was distressed. Noah and Hedwig would be so frightened if they sawin bed like this.
