S31 104. Dilemma
“Don’t you learn from mistakes?” Ava sighed in between her irregular breaths. “I'm weak and having no skills. |
failed to carry out Sophia’s mission. Why do you still want to givesuch a big task?”
“Because | know you will learn from your mistakes. You remember the accident you had stago, right?
The Moore family never plays around, Darling. With a threat as big as your sister's life, are you still willing to
fail?”
After a snort of laughter, Patricia whispered, “No. You don’t want to
fail.”
Ava'’s tears rolled down her cheeks. However, she didn’t wipe it. She didn’t have the energy anymore. She was
too tired of carrying a big
dilemma in her heart.
“What do you want this time? Inject Melanie with the wrong medicine again?”
“No. I'm not interested in that woman. She's too small. | need
prey.”
“Who? Frank Harper? You know I'm no match for him. Even your husband failed to beat him. I'll fall down before
the tip of my needle touches his skin.”
Patricia laughed faintly. “I like your realistic thinking, but no-it’s not him I'm after. What about his kids? It
wouldn't be hard for you to give them deadly candy, right?”
Ava’s heart seemed to drop into her stomach. She winced at the pain.
“You really don’t have feelings, hmm? How could I bear to hurt Louis and Emily? They're still so young. They've
only been alive for four

years. You already want to finish them off?”
“Make no mistake, Miss Connor. They are not children. Their bodies. are small, but their souls are like cunning old
people. Do you think they could tear up my family’s yacht if they were only four years old?”
Ava sighed tiredly. “No, | won't be able to. I'll end up stabbing myself if | plan to give them poisoned needles.”

change targets. What about the baby? It’s not a human yet, is it? And | doubt there's a life in it.”
Ava sighed in disbelief. “You wantto harm Mrs. Harper?”
“Exactly. That's much easier, right? You can do it.”
Ava shook her head quickly. “No. | can’t. That little creature hasn't even breathed. You wantto destroy its
hopes of stepping on
earth?”
Ava sounded angry. Patricia giggled in response. “Please don’t exaggerate it, Miss Connor. That thing can’t be
considered alive yet. It’s not even fully formed. You don’t need to endanger the mother. That little thing is
enough.”
“Aren’t you a mother? How could you say something like that?
“Precisely because I'm a mother, | know that little thing can be n whenever the parents want. If this one falls, the
Harpers can make again. It won't be difficult.”
Ava snorted. “No, | would rather destroy myself than that fetus.”
Patricia made a strange voice from her throat. “You're really lousy. So who can you kill to save your sister? Oh....”
Patricia suddenly burst into laughter. “What about the guy? Jeremy Harper.”

Hearing that name, Ava gasped. Her lips turned pale and her knees went weak. She had to hold on to a chair so
she wouldn't fall.
“Jeremy... Harper?” she sighed weakly. “Don’t you have a grudge against Frank? Why are you targeting his
brother instead?
“He’s Frank's right-hand man and older brother. | heard they are very close. If one dies, the other will definitely
feel very lost.”
Ava covered her mouth with a fist. The wound in her heart felt like it had just been doused with vinegar. Frank
wasn't the only one who felt empty if Jeremy was gone. She was too.
“He’s a man. How could | possibly beat him?” The trembling in Ava’s voice was undeniable.
“Don’t you live at his house? | heard, you guys are quite close and he trusts you. So you can approach him at
any time. Use your brain, Darling. And maybe, a little flirting.”
Ava swallowed hard. She had to put her phone away so that Patricial wouldn't hear the sadness stuck in her
throat.
“Okay! This is our final agreement. Jeremy Harper,” Patricia said firmly. “He’s not a child, he’s lived long enough,
and you can e outsmart him. No more negotiations or | will not spare your siste
life.”
“Wait-"
“I'll give you 24 hours. If by that t| haven't received sad news about him, your sister will have to pay for your
negligence.”
“No, please.... Mrs. Moore, why don’t you kill me? It's okay forto atone for their actions with my life. Mrs.
Moore? Mrs. Moore!”
Seeing that her phone screen had returned to showing the wallpaper, Ava’s whole body was shaking. Her knees
collapsed onto the floor.

“No.... How could | possibly kill Jeremy? He's my friend. He....” Ava. choked. She could no longer continue her
words. The memory of her twith Jeremy had paralyzed her mind, minced her heart until the pain was
unbearable.
One minute, one hour, one night. When morning came, Ava was still curled up, hiding her head behind the folded
arms on her knees. She didn’t know what she should do with Jeremy. She didn’t dare imagine.

“Morning, Mom.” Jeremy kissed Vivian's temple before sitting down. A faint smile appeared on his face. However,
seeing that the other seats were empty, the light in his eyes dimmed a little.
“What's wrong, Son?” Vivian smiled faintly.
Jeremy blinked. “Nothing. I just felt it’s very quiet this morning. Last night, the seats were full.”
“Ava said her mother wanted to eat in her room. Maybe she will join us after feeding her mother.”
Jeremy's eyes widened a bit when he heard that. During brest, he occasionally glanced towards the door.
However, until the
food left on his plate, Ava had not yet arrived.

“That's it. No need to be shy. Hurry up and meet her,” Vivian te
Jeremy raised his eyebrows. “Please don’t misunderstand, Mom. A and | are friends. | don’t expect her to eat with
us.”
“I know.” Vivian nodded gracefully. “But there's nothing wrong with friends caring about each other, right?
Asking why she hasn't had breakfast is natural.”
With a small snort, Jeremy got up from the chair. His chin met Vivian's temple again. “I'm going to work, Mom.”

Vivian sneered. She doubted that was the reason Jeremy was leaving. When she saw her son turn towards the
bedroom Mrs. Connor, she smiled faintly. “That boy is still shy.”
Meanwhile, Jeremy grumbled as he quickened his pace. “Why does Mom like to tease me? Is this karma because
I used to tease Frank a
lot?”
Suddenly, his eyes fell on Ava. In her hand was a tray with the remains of cold porridge.
“Has your mother finished eating?” Jeremy raised an eyebrow. He didn’t realize that Ava’s eyes were shaking
against the pressure of
tears.
Blinking, Ava lowered her head. Her hands gripped the tray tighter.
Yes.”
Jeremy nodded. “My mother is in the dining room. There's still plenty of food there. Don’t hesitate to take as
much food as you need. You ate very little last night.”
Ava’s breathing becheavier. If she hadn't received the call, her heart would have soared. But now, she
hated the attention. S
wanted to hate him as much as she could.
“Anyway, I'm going to office. Do your job well. See you later.”
Ava nodded slightly. Only after Jeremy left did she look up. Staring his back, tears cto her eyes.
“Oh my God, what should | do?”
Biting her lip, Ava closed her eyes to hold back the pain. Then, instead of going to the kitchen, she went into her
room. There, she curled up and cried again.
