S31 25. A Trap for Sophia
Sophia’s eyebrows rose. Her heart tingled. “I don’t expect anything in return from you,
Frank.” She grimaced.
“There must be something I can do for you to get the information?”
Sophia exhaled a long breath, her shoulders lowered. “Okay if you insist. Today, my
package will arrive. I want to make it a surprise for Grandma. So, I need your help to
sneak it into the stable tonight.”
Frank frowned. He thought Sophia would immediately reveal the secret. Why did she even
make a request?
“That’s the reward you need from me?”
Sophia nodded. “And I’ll tell you everything there.”
Frank’s hopes crumbled. “Why not now?”
“I promised Grandma to keep it a secret in this house. So, I don’t want to break it here. It
might sound strange but I hope you understand my
reason.”
Frank’s lips pursed. “Okay. Just call me when the package comes.
Sophia had difficulty holding back a smile. Rubbing her nose, she stood up. “Well then, see
you tonight. I have something to do now.”
“Okay.”
Sophia went inside like a shy girl. At that moment, Philip poked his head out from the side
of the house, Frank blinked at him.
“Since when were you there?” he whispered stiffly.
Barbara appeared beside Philip. “Is it safe?”
Blinking in surprise, Frank peered inside. Sophia was no longer visible.
1.6.
“Safe.”
Philip and Barbara rushed around him.
“Will she tell the truth tonight?” Barbara still whispered.
“I think it’s a trap,” Philip continued.
Frank pursed his lips tightly. “Yeah, it was definitely a trap.”
“What will you do then? Do you want to keep going?”
Frank spontaneously turned to where Philip appeared before. Jeremy was raising an
eyebrow there, waiting for the answer to his question. Frank could not help but laugh

“Are you stupid or overprotective?”
“Both. Kara doesn’t want you be alone with that girl. I just help her.” Jeremy shrugged his
shoulders lightly.
“Guys, how about we move somewhere else? I don’t feel safe here.” Barbara glanced in.
Frank took the coffee cup and stood up. “Right, let’s move.”
“Are you sure you want to drink that?” Jeremy pointed at the coffe She put something in
there earlier.”
“I know.” After walking a few steps, Frank poured the black liquid onto the snow. “I want
her to think I drank it. Now let’s make a plan.”
In the evening, after feeding Diana, Sophia approached Frank on the back porch. “I want
to accompany Grandma to sleep. After that, we’ll leave.”
Frank almost shuddered at the whisper. However, as much as possible, he controlled his
expression. “Okay.”
“What are you talking about?” Kara suddenly appeared in the doorway.

Seeing her displeased expression, Sophia smiled. “Nothing.”
She straightened up and patted on the sleeve of Frank’s sweater. “I just told Frank there’s
a bug stuck to his sweater.”
Then, Sophia walked over coquettishly. “Excuse me.”
Kara glanced at her cynically. When she returned his gaze to Frank, her husband was
giving her two thumbs up.
“Your acting is good,” he whispered.
With a sullen face, Kara approached Frank. “It wasn’t an act. I was really annoyed. There is
no bug in winter. It’s clearly an excuse.”
While cleaning Sophia’s trace from Frank’s sweater, Kara pursed her lips. “So, you guys
will go to the stable?”
“Are you worried?” Frank put his chin to her chest.
As Kara nodded, Frank smiled. “Don’t worry. I’m with Jeremy.”
“But you still have to be careful.”
“Yeah, I will return in a good shape.”
Kara smiled bitterly. After kissing his forehead, she whispered, “I will sue her if she dares
to mess with you.”
Frank laughed slightly. “It won’t happen. I won’t let her touch me.”
Later, Frank met Sophia with no expression. “So, these are what we need to take to the
stable?” Frank pointed to four different sized boxes. Two large, two medium.
“Yes,” Sophia nodded while putting her hands on her hips. “I bought helmets, riding vests,
boots and gloves. Can you bring the big ones?”
Sophia took the top two boxes. At that moment, Frank’s eyes fell on the wet surface of the
box.

“Of course.” Frank changed the position of the box he was carrying. Sophia’s smile
suddenly disappeared.
“Isn’t the box wet? Why did you put it at the bottom? You’ll ruin it.”
“I don’t want my chin to get wet. Besides, won’t we open this box
later?”
Sophia blinked. “Yes.” She looked like she was still looking for an
excuse.
“Then let’s hurry. Don’t let grandma see us.”
Without waiting for an answer, Frank led the way. Sophia couldn’t help but follow his steps.
“So, what did Grandma tell you?” Frank asked when Sophia caught up.
Sophia exhaled a long breath. She had actually prepared a diversion of focus for Frank.
However, she wasn’t quick enough to ask. “Do you know her past with your grandfather?”
“No need to ask. Just tell me.
“But, do you know what kind of person your grandmother was in th past?”
“I said just tell me,” Frank sounded firm even though his tone was flat.
Sophia grimaced slightly. She had no other choice, especially since Frank’s steps were
starting to slow down. He might become suspicious if she avoided answering.
Sophia started telling the story. About how Diana loved Rowan, about how Rowan’s
attitude was unfair, about how they separated.
“So, Grandma is hurt and holds a grudge against my grandfather?” Frank stopped in his
track for the umpteenth time.
Sophia nodded. “She also hates your family. To her, people with the

continue walking? I’m starting to get cold.”
“Wait a minute. I still don’t understand. If it was just because of hurt and hatred, Grandma
wouldn’t have reacted this badly. Is there
anything else you haven’t told me?”
However, Sophia continued walking. Frank was forced to match her
pace.
“Grandma cursed at your grandfather. She hoped that he would live a miserable life, not
feel love and never be happy.”
Frank’s brow furrowed. “So, our arrival made her feel defeated? Her
curse failed?”
“Maybe so. That’s why she thinks your family’s happiness is fake. That’s her way of
comforting herself.”
At that moment, they arrived at the stable door. Sophia placed her boxes on top of
Frank’s, then opened the lock. Frank no longer noticed that she was in a hurry. He was
busy contemplating, while occasionally taking deep breaths.
“Okay, that explains why Grandma didn’t like our presence and
misunderstood Philip’s inheritance. But what about Kara? What made Grandma so
sensitive about her?”
While pulling the chain, Sophia shrugged. “I don’t know about that either. Maybe Grandma
feels jealous. Her fate and Kara’s are very different. While in fact, they are both Mrs.
Harper. But that is my personal analysis, not Grandma’s confession.”
As soon as the sentence ended, Sophia opened the door. “Finally… Let’s go in.”
Sophia entered into the darkness, looking for the light switch. However, when she pressed
it, not a single ray of light appeared.

“Hmm?” Sophia fiddled with the switch over and over again. “Why doesn’t it turn on?”
She sighed worriedly. However, realizing that the condition could support her mission, she
smiled.
“Frank, the lights are broken. Come in.” Secretly, she sprayed something on her wrist.
