Chapter 92 Katrina's POV I rushed to my room immediately, slamming the door shut behind me. I needed to do something about Maria, but I couldn't hurt her. I was about to rush over to Silas' room but I stopped in my tracks, my eyes falling on the clock on the wall.

What are the chances of Silas being up by this time? A lot of them actually. But can I go see him with the excuse of Maria? Wouldn't it seem as if I wanted something else? I couldn't trust Silas or myself and so I fell on my bed, forcing myself to sleep.

The next morning, I stormed into Silas's office, pushing the door open. My heart raced in my chest and I clenched my fists so hard my nails bit into my palms.

The sun was barely up and I had just woken up but I couldn't keep quiet about it any much longer.

Maria's mocking laughter still echoed in my ears, and my arm stung from where her nails had dug into my skin. She had to be stopped, and Silas was the only one who could do it.

It was quite obvious she was doing this for him, because she was meant to be his wife and I got married to him. But why couldn't she make an attempt on his life instead of mine? He was the one who had forcedto get married to him and not the other way around. Silas sat behind his desk, his face was blank as usual. His eyes fell onthe moment I pushed the door open, and I swallowed hard.

A woman was seated across from him, dressed in a black suit that screamed authority. A for was a member of this mafia, I had seen her before. Her sharp eyes flicked towhen I barged in, and a sneer curled on her lips.

I didn't have the tto banter with someone right now.

"Silas," I said, ignoring her completely, "I need to talk to you. It's about Maria." The woman raised a brow and smirked. "Oh, look. Here comes the little damsel in distress," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "What happened this time? Did you trip over your own shadow?" I froze, the words hittinglike a slap. For a moment, I considered letting it go, as I always did. But then something insidesnapped. It's always this way with them, they say something and I let them. It was getting tiring. I stepped forward, hardening my gaze as I glared up at her. "Say that again. To my face." The woman blinked, clearly not expectingto challenge her. They never do.

""Excuse me?" "You heard me," I said, standing straighter. My chest heaved, but I refused to back down. If I don't do this now, I might not get another chance to.

"If you're so bold, repeat what you just said. Or are you only brave when you're sitting safely with Silas?" The room went quiet, and even Silas leaned back in his chair, watching with mild curiosity. This was the first tI was fighting back, and he seemed interested in that.

The woman stood, her heels clicking against the floor as she approached me. She towered overslightly, but I didn't care. I'd had enough of everyone here looking down onlike I was nothing. "You've got guts," she said, her tone laced with mock admiration. "But letremind you where you stand, little girl. You're 1/3 08:19 Thu, Nov 28 a 17.

Chapter 92 nothing more than- "That's enough, Jesse," Silas interrupted, his voice cold and my eyes flickered to him.

Why had he stopped her? Jesse turned to him, a small pout on her lips. "Oh, con, Silas I was just about to make her callMommy" She gaveone last condescending look before turning on her heels.

She seemed so sure she was going to beat my ass up. And as she walked, the metal knuckles which were on her fingers cto view.

I didn't see that earlier but I didn't care. I wouldn't have backed down if I did too.

I think.

As she reached the door, she glanced back, her eyes flashing with something dark. "Careful, little Katrina. You might bite off more than you can chew." I held her gaze, refusing to flinch, until she finally walked out and closed the door behind her.

Silas sighed, rubbing his temples. "You can't keep picking random fights, Katrina." What? Was he not here for the entire thing? "Random fights?" I snapped, spinning to face him. "She disrespected me. What did you expectto do-just stand there and take it? Again?" His eyes narrowed, his usual calm replaced with a flicker of irritation. "This isn't about respect, Katrina. You don't understand how things work here. You think acting tough will fix anything? It won't." The way he sounded madefeel irritated and angry in every way.

"Then tell me, Silas," I said, my voice shaking with anger, "what should I do? Just let everyone here treatlike I'm beneath them? Like I'm shelpless doll you dragged in to amuse yourself?" Was that all I was to him? I know the situation we had met in wasn't the brightest. He ruined my wedding, which I was grateful for by the way, kidnappedand forcedto get married to him. How was anything my fault? Silas stood, his figure towering overas he leaned forward on his desk. "This world doesn't reward bravery-it punishes it. If you don't pick your battles wisely, you'll end up in a fight you can't win." This sounded like advice but I knew it was a warning.

I clenched my fists, heat rushing to my face. "Maybe I'm tired of everyone thinking I can't handle myself. Maybe I'm done being pitied, dismissed, or ignored. Have you ever thought of that?"

He opened his mouth to respond, but I didn't want to hear it. Not now. Not when my blood was boiling, and every nerve in my body screamed forto leave before I said something I couldn't take back. I hated how he always does this thing. Pullin then go ahead to pushaway from him. We were constantly in a gof push and pull and I didn't want any more of it.

Nwanted him, but I didn't want any stress.

"I'm done talking," I muttered, spinning on my heel. "Do whatever you want about Maria. Or don't. I don't care." 00 hapter 92 He hadn't even letmakethe complaint I wanted to make and at this point it felt like I was going to let it "Katrina-" 87%

I didn't stop to hear the rest. I marched out of his office, slamming the door behind me. My angencarriedall the way to my room, where I pushed open the door, ready to scream into my pillow or throw something-anything-to vent the storm brewing inside me.
