216 What Did You Steal?
Zhao Chuchu was exceptionally busy. She was so busy that she didn’t even have the time to eat.
Xie Heng cooked and brought the food in front of Zhao Chuchu to feed her. She ate as she treated the patients to prevent herself from having to wait until late at night to have time to eat.
Zhao Chuchu was going to refuse, but she was too hungry to care about such things.
She was busy until late at night. That was when she was finally able to take a look at all the patients in Qiaoyi Town.
Xie Heng told the manager to bring her a tub of hot water for Zhao Chuchu to have a bath.
Zhao Chuchu lay in the tub and finally felt relaxed and refreshed.
However, all she could think of was this matter about the Blood Bug Virus.
Qiaoyi Town’s situation alone was already critical. It wouldn’t be hard to guess what the other villages would be like.
Blood Bug Virus was a disease caused by a blood-sucking bug that acted like a parasite. Any human or mammal who came in contact with the infected water would become infected.
Without the help of medicine, no one could recover by themselves. Even if one were cured, their immune system still wouldn’t have any effects on this disease. They were prone to be again infected by this disease if they came into contact with the infected water.
Therefore, Zhao Chuchu not only had to cure the people but also solve the problem of the infected water as well. People would need to be adequately protected before going into the water. They must pay attention to their hygiene and wash their hands before eating. They shouldn’t go anywhere near any excretion, and people shouldn’t drink water that wasn’t boiled.
At that moment, Zhao Chuchu learned from the inn manager that Heyang Village was the worst off.
Zhao Chuchu decided to head to Heyang Village to take a look the next day and get some rest for now.
After the bath, Zhao Chuchu asked for someone to pour the used water away. Only then did Xie Heng return to the room.
“I’ve already asked around and discovered which villages were infected with this disease.” Xie Heng handed Zhao Chuchu a piece of paper.
It was a map of Qiaoyi Town. All the villages were marked with the number of people infected. It was pretty obvious which villages were the worse off.
“I’m planning on going to this place tomorrow.” Zhao Chuchu placed the map on the table and pointed at Heyang Village. “I’ve been asking around. They said that there’s a lake next to this village. This is the river source that Qiaoyi Town uses for its water source. Therefore the origin of the big belly disease should be here as well.”
Then, Zhao Chuchu told Xie Heng why people were infected with the Blood Bug Disease.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtXie Heng was a little stunned. “That’s why you’ve always asked people to boil the water before drinking it?”
“That’s right. This way, the temperature can kill off most of the virus in the water. This reduces the possibility of someone being infected. Humans look like we dominate this world, but we’re actually very weak. A small virus can completely crush us. Da Lang, if you become an official one day, no matter where, remember to spread what I’ve told you.”
During that time, the medical level wasn’t as good. If people didn’t take more care, a plague would be able to wipe out half the population.
It was something that did happen in history.
“I remember everything you’ve told me.” Xie Heng nodded thoughtfully.
“You’ve been busy all day, and you still have to go to Heyang Village tomorrow. You need a good night’s rest. The trip to Heyang Village isn’t going to be easy. The Blood Bug Virus will be even worse over there as well.”
“Are you hungry?” Xie Heng asked all of a sudden.
“Huh?”
“I’ll make you supper if you’re hungry.”
“It’s already late. I’ll make something to eat myself if I’m hungry.”
With that, Zhao Chuchu took out two small cakes.
“Here, I’ll treat you to some.”
This was still something that Xie Heng hadn’t seen.
It looked very delicate. Xie Heng, who didn’t really like sweet food, ate the cream indifferently.
“Tastes good.” Xie Heng looked at Zhao Chuchu. “What is this called?”
“It’s called a cake. From where I come from, we can only eat these on our birthday. It’s just that these cakes are too small. They can only serve as snacks.” Zhao Chuchu swallowed the last mouthful of cake. Then she smiled and looked at Xie Heng. “Do you think we’re being a little too selfish?”
“Junjun’s still a little too young. It’s better for him not to eat as much sweet food,” Xie Heng said matter-of-factly. “He can’t restrain himself as much yet, so we have to restrain him.”
Zhao Chuchu couldn’t really retort because she felt Xie Heng had a point.
However, she still felt a little bad for Xie Jun, who liked her so much.
“When is Junjun’s birthday? Let’s give him a surprise then.”
“8th August.”
“There are only two months left. That’s perfect. The poison in his body should be mostly removed by then. I can give him a cake at that time.”
“Chuchu, don’t be so nice to Junjun. Boys shouldn’t be given such an easy time.”
“You talk like you don’t spoil him.”
Zhao Chuchu rolled her eyes at Xie Heng.
“The person who spoils Xie Jun the most is Xie Heng himself. How dare he say that I spoil Xie Jun.”
“I have my own reasons.”
“Excuses, excuses.”
“It’s not.”
“Alright, alright. Let’s go to bed. We’ll talk about it tomorrow.”
Zhao Chuchu pushed Xie Heng out of her room.
Xie Heng felt a little helpless. He turned around and saw some cream still in the corner of Zhao Chuchu’s mouth, so he reached out and wiped it off with his thumb. “If Junjun sees this, he’ll know we’ve been eating something behind his back.”
Zhao Chuchu subconsciously touched the corner of her mouth. The cream had already been wiped away by Xie Heng.
“Go back and get some rest. Many things are waiting to be done by you tomorrow.”
“Okay, goodnight.”
Zhao Chuchu smiled as she looked at Xie Heng.
...
Xie Heng reached out and rubbed Zhao Chuchu’s head, then closed the door for her.
Xie Heng returned to his room and looked down at the cream on his thumb.
He didn’t know what had gotten into him. He actually placed the cream in his mouth.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHe didn’t know if it was because it was from Zhao Chuchu, but the cream tasted sweeter than what he had tasted moments ago. He didn’t find it too sweet, either.
When Xie Heng came back to his senses and realized what he had done, he felt his ears turn red.
He felt that he had done something wrong behind Zhao Chuchu’s back.
Xie Heng quickly walked to the sink and washed his face with water. Only then did he calm down a little.
Obviously, Zhao Chuchu didn’t know what Xie Heng did.
She was so tired that she fell asleep as soon as her head touched the pillow.
However, that night, she had a dream. She dreamed of Xie Heng wiping the cream off her face and then eating the cream bit by bit.
Zhao Chuchu only woke up when the sun was high in the sky.
...
The light coming from the outside made her realize that everything was just a dream.
Zhao Chuchu’s face turned red.
She was dreaming of crazy in her dreams! The dream was of her and Xie Heng as well.
People say that dreams can reveal one’s desires. Did she desire Xie Heng that badly?
Zhao Chuchu was at a loss for words.
She only managed to calm herself down after a while. She then took a deep breath to steady herself.
When she was a perfect calm, she stood up and began putting her clothes on.
Zhao Chuchu had initially thought that Xie Heng would still be asleep so early in the money.
In the end, she realized that Xie Heng had gotten out of bed way before she did. He seemed to have black eyes as well.
“Da Lang, what did you do last night? Were you sneaking around?” Zhao Chuchu pretended to be normal and began teasing Xie Heng. “What did you steal?”
“Being too tired on the roads caused me to lose sleep. Therefore I stayed awake all night.” Xie Heng’s voice was calm. He wasn’t going to admit to what he had done the night before.
“I see…” Zhao Chuchu was a little suspicious.
Xie Heng nodded. “That’s right. I went to borrow the kitchen so that I could make breakfast. You can dig in, and I’ll go and call for Xie Jun. Soon, we can set off for Heyang Village.”
