Chapter 588

“You have been wrongly accused!” Matilda exclaimed angrily. “It’s all because of Irene, that wicked woman that

you’re in this situation. If you’re truly concerned about this stigma, we can try to clear your name. Isn’t there at

least a 30 percent chance of a successful appeal?”

Amelia did not say anything more. She simply gazed at Aiden quietly for a while before standing up and replying,

“Mom, I’m feeling tired today. I want to go back and rest for a while. Could you please take care of Aiden in the

hospital?” Although Matilda felt a little strange, considering Amelia’s personality, she believed the latter would want

to stay overnight at the hospital that night under any circumstances. However, thinking about how hard the latter

had been running the food cart day and night recently, the former genuinely thought she might be physically

exhausted. So she advised, “Then, you better go back and rest early.”

“Okay, I’ll come back tomorrow morning to replace you,” Amelia responded and left the ward.

However, after leaving the hospital, Amelia did not head in the direction of her home. Instead, she walked to the

bus stop and dialed a phone number. “I’m Amelia Haab. I need to talk to Warren tonight regarding Aiden’s matter.

If you can’t provide me with his contact information, please arrange for him to contact me. I’ll wait for a response!”

That phone number belonged to the representative lawyer Warren in the custody case. The details about the law

firm and the representative lawyer’s contact number were sent along with the lawsuit documents to her.

“Noted, Ms. Haab, please wait a moment. We’ll call you back shortly,” the other party said, ending the call.

Amelia stood at the bus stop, watching as one bus after another passed by in front of her. The October weather

had already cooled down, and the night breeze brought a chill to her cheeks.

A few minutes later, her phone rang, and she pressed the answer button. The voice of the representative lawyer

came through, “Ms. Haab, Mr. York is willing to meet with you.”

The lawyer then provided the address of the hotel where Warren was staying.

Half an hour later, Amelia arrived at the hotel where Warren was staying. It was a well-known luxury hotel in Strico.

He had brought her to the presidential suite there last time.

When Warren came to Strico this time, he still chose to stay in the same hotel and the same room.

Amelia gazed blankly at the hotel’s entrance lights. She then took a deep breath, put away her bitter expression,

and entered. -the hotel.-

Along the way, no one stopped Amelia or asked any questions. She suspected Warren had already informed the

hotel staff, which was why she could proceed to his room without hindrance.

It was the same presidential suite Amelia had visited before. She walked up to the door and knocked on it.

After a moment, the door swung open. Warren’s figure appeared before Amelia’s eyes.

He was dressed in a navy blue nightgown. Even just a glance of his stern expression and deep-set eyes stirred a

sense of wanting to escape within her.

Perhaps it could be said that avoiding him had become a habit for her over the years.

All she could think about was how to avoid him after she was released from prison. She never once expected that,

one day, she would voluntarily appear in front of him.

“I have something that I want to talk to you about,” she said, and the dryness of her throat reflected in her voice.

He stared at her for a moment before replying, “You’re not planning to stand at the doorway and talk, are you?”

With that, he turned and walked into the room.

Amelia gritted her teeth, walked into the suite, then closed the door.

Warren seated himself on the couch and took a sip of the coffee on the coffee table. “What do you want to talk

about since you’ve come to meet me? Don’t tell me you’re requesting me to give up custody, are you?”

Amelia’s eyes flickered. “If I say yes, will you give it up? As long as you’re willing to give up custody of Aiden, I’ll do

anything

you want!”

“Anything?” Warren raised an eyebrow as he looked at her.

“Yes,” she answered.

“Do you think I still need you to do anything for me?” Warren continued with a hint of amusement, “Do I need you

to give birth to another child as compensation to Irene? But now, we have Aiden. Or do you mean to offer

something else? You’re only running a food cart. What can you do for me?”

Amelia’s face turned ashen. At that point, she had nothing left, not even the leverage to negotiate. She had

absolutely nothing to offer him.

She remained silent for a while before responding, “Don’t you hate me? Hate my father for what he did to the York

family, almost causing the downfall of your family? So, you deliberately got close to me for revenge. If you feel like

your revenge isn’t enough, you can continue to take revenge. You can harm this body of mine as you please. I don’t

mind.”

She only begged him to let Aiden stay with her.

Aiden was her life and her emotional anchor. If she were to lose him, her life would be meaningless.

Warren stared coldly at the person in front of him. Her father had once nearly ruined the York family.

When he finally tracked down that man, the latter already died ten years ago. So, the former had no choice but to

seek his revenge on Amelia.

Yet, in the course of seeking revenge through that ill-fated romance, he often wondered who had truly wounded

whom. He even questioned whether, if he had not chosen that path back then, his heart would not have been

etched so deeply by Amelia.

“Revenge?” he sneered. “Then, taking Aiden away from you should be the best revenge.”

Amelia’s body trembled, and she seemed on the verge of collapse. Her pale lips quivered, and her eyes, once

bright, now seemed filled with a sense of despair.

Warren frowned slightly. Seeing her in that state, he felt a heavy weight on his chest and difficulty catching his

breath.

He recalled the image of her running the food cart, just as he had seen before. At that time, as he watched her in

those cheap clothes, wearing an apron, cooking spaghetti and vegetables in the food cart, the crushing weight on

his chest made him feel nearly suffocating.

After all those years, she still had the power to affect him in such a way.

“So, are you determined to proceed with this lawsuit against me?” After a long pause, Amelia spoke slowly.

“You should have expected this a long time ago, shouldn’t you? How could I ever let my child grow up with a

criminal offender?” Warren replied mercilessly.
