"Ack!" Kael groaned and held the back of his head when he felt the soft cushion underneath it gone. "What the hell are you doing? Don't you see I'm hurting here?"
Instead of hearing her say she's sorry or show a compassionate eyes filled with worry, Chu Chu shot him a glare that made him shut his mouth tightly. Kael, who did not want another round of beating crawled to the side.
And just when he rolled on his side, he felt a hand tugging him back to where he originally lied on and looked up to see her not looking at him but at the other hostages.
"Are you that sick of living?" She started. "Don't you want to return back to your homes? See your loved ones, families, and children? If you don't want to return… I'll let you volunteer and sit in front of this group so that any stray arrows or swords that comes in our way, you'll be the first one to die!"
"Who… who said we don't want to return?" A lady said indignantly but she was shaking so hard that the courage she gathered to herself to speak soon made her look pitiful. "I want to go back! But do you think just because we said we want to or wished it were the case, it will happen? No! Because no one will come to save us."
The lady started to tear up and covered her face with her tied up hands. The men in the group lowered their heads and thought the same. The elderlies were too tired to speak while the younger ones were too scared..
But what they wanted to say was already said by the lady.
They wanted to be saved. To get out of that place and return back to the arms of their families and loved ones. But how could things be so easy?
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWhen the silence in their group lengthened while the metallic exchanges and sparks from the swords ahead, Chu Chu spoke once again.
"Does it have to be someone else to save us? To save yourselves?" She asked them, meeting their eyes one by one. "Why can't you and I stand up and struggle to resist and survive?"
"If no one will come to save us… we can struggle till to our deaths. At that time, even if we die, we can still say we died doing something." She added.
Hearing her last words, the hostages slowly raised their heads up to meet her eyes. That's right. If no one could save them and if they were still going to die anyway… why can't they fight to death just like a hero?
When Chu Chu finally got what she wanted from them, she decided that it was time for the last blow.
"Of course, we're not going to die today even if you don't try to fight back." she said.
"What do you mean?" The man who spoke the first time had a confused look on his face and frowned.
Rather than giving him an answer, Chu Chu pointed towards the heated battle going on in front of them.
Aside from the rough looking bandits trying to block every swing of the sword held by the men in black clothing, the hostages started to search something from these men.
Like shadows living in the dark, the men in black clothing were as silent as the night. They moved as graceful as dancer and swift like they were gliding on water, and every swing of their swords, they would hit their targets and let their enemies bleed like it was predestined.
But that wasn't what the hostages took great interest of since they were no martial artist who could distinguish how beautiful these swordplay were. Instead, their eyes were focused on the creature that sat on their chests. It was an emblem that were stitched to their clothes and normally, only those who had their own personal army could use an emblem to put on the clothes of their men.
Two long horns, a dragon head, a body full of scales, and two tails… weren't these the exact patterns of the Duke of Xin's emblem?
"It's… it's the Duke of Xin's mighty soldiers! They have come to save us!"
"Someone really came to save us!"
Almost all of them couldn't believe what was going on. They couldn't believe that the mighty God of War and Duke, Qu Xing Xu let his men come and save them. No… even if they had not come for them, they were still thankful because they were safe now. The Duke will not let them die here!
The hostages smiled gleefully and cheered for the men in black clothing. When they did so, the bandits were surprisingly quickly. All of them lay on the ground stiff and not breathing except for one.
With a powerful kick from behind him, Shen Tao was pushed forward. His face was twice as big as his original one like he was bitten by bees all over his face. His hands were also twisted in a very wrong and gruesome way.
A man was standing behind him, keeping his hand tight around Shen Tao's neck to hold him in place. Chu Chu and Kael watched the man and recognized him even with the mask covering his face. It was Ji Mo who was directly under Qu Xng Xu and usually managing the Hong Pei Luo.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmJi Mo glanced at Chu Chu and nodded at her. Aside from the dirt that stuck on her dress, there seemed to be no wound on her face. On the other hand, the young master was not doing great. He was beaten up like he was a punching bag.
Uh-oh…It's seems that his master has a lot of explaining and wooing to do after this.
'Sigh… I guess I'll prepare myself and my men to be sent to the tower after this as well.' Ji Mo thought as he already envisioned a black-hearted mistress who will soon find out that her ward was hurt tonight.
