Chapter 323
Sarah had been working at the Red Jack Club for almost a decade but she had never laid eyes on the
big boss. But according to Payton’s chatter, Sarah started to suspect maybe the founder of Red Jack
Club wasn’t the current boss, and the current boss might be just a youngster.
A whippersnapper in charge of the Red Jack Club? There must be some big guns backing him up.
“Payton, sorry girl, I’ve never met him either. But next time he comes around, I can give you a heads
up. But don’t jump the gun, after all, you can’t be sure if the boss is the guy you’re thinking of Sarah
said.
“Right, thanks, Sarah” Payton said.
“Alright, go get some rest. Sarah looked at Payton’s bloodshot eyes and the beer bottles scattered

rest up and don’t overthink.”
Payton left the Red Jack Club, trudging home like a lost soul.
Seeing her in this state, her mom frowned, “Where were you last night? You didn’t pick up your phone
or reply to messages. Are you now staying out all night?!”
Listening to her mom’s scolding, Payton felt a headache coming. She changed her shoes and headed
to her room. Seeing that Payton didn’t respond, her mom got even more upset and followed her, “Listen
to me for once. Quit that job, and focus on your studies. Your dad told me the other day, you skipped
class again! You’re a senior, don’t you want to graduate?”
“Mom, I’m tired, I need some rest. Payton said as she prepared to close the door.
But this time her mom stood her ground, she smelled alcohol on Payton, “Have you been drinking? I
knew I shouldn’t let you work in a place like that! Look at yourself”
Payton took a deep breath, grasping the doorknob tightly, “Mom, what’s wrong with working at the Red
Jack Club? I’m making money by my own effort.”
“I know, ever since Arthur left, you’ve been blaming us. We may not be a high-class family, but we
value education. Your dad and grandad are educators. I hope you can get a decent job.” Her mother
said.
“Mom, Arthur didn’t commit a crime, and he didn’t kill anyone. It’s been six years since the investigation
cleared him. Those people committed suicide. It has nothing to do with Arthur!” Payton slammed the
door, leaving her mom outside.
She leaned against the door. Outside, her mom gently knocked a few times.

Her mom sighed helplessly when Payton didn’t open the door, then she turned and left. On the other
side of the door, Payton opened her eyes, feeling truly exhausted. She lay on the bed, Arthur’s face
surfacing in her mind,
That was the last time she saw Arthur.
He came out of jail penniless, stayed for a month. He told her, he was leaving.
Where to? Would he come back? How long would he be gone? What would he do?
Arthur didn’t answer any of these questions, he just told Payton to wait for him for five years. If he didn’t
come back after five years, then she should stop waiting.
It was the sixth year now. This was Payton’s sixth year of waiting for him.
