Lao Zhou turned her head and found Wang Zhuang holding her arm back.
Upon seeing her, Lao Zhou’s brows scrunched up together in extreme displeasure. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“I should be the one asking you that,” Wang Zhuang said. “What do you thinking you’re doing to her? You know full well that she’s pregnant. With such a small tummy, it’ll be easy for her to miscarry.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWhen Lao Zhou heard that, she burst out laughing as if she had just heard the funniest joke ever. She replied, “Since when did you suddenly become so kind? She’s just a pregnant woman. If she’s being locked in here, I’m guessing that even the wardens don’t know that she’s pregnant. If I just accidentally f*cked with her and she ended up no longer pregnant, what would that have to do with me?”
Wang Zhuang’s brows shot together. With a look of extreme disapproval, she replied, “You’re intending to cause her to miscarry?”
“Shh...” Lao Zhou crazily laughed. “Keep it to yourself. You don’t have to announce it out loud! Go on and keep watch for me outside. Once I’m done with this b*tch, I won’t want for a single thing upon my release. When you get out of prison, you’re free to come under my protection anytime.”
Wang Zhuang gave a humorless laugh when she heard that and answered, “Unfortunately, I cannot do something like that. I have a digital voice recorder attached to me at all times.”
As she spoke, she tightened her grip on Lao Zhou’s hand.
Never in Lao Zhou’s wildest imagination had she expected Wang Zhuang to say something like that. She jerked back in surprise and asked, “What do you mean?”
Wang Zhuang retrieved a digital voice recorder from the back of her pants and replied, “You were never this f*cked up in the past. Why have you become like this now?”
Lao Zhou’s expression turned ugly upon seeing the voice recorder. She reached out intending to snatch the device over.
Wang Zhuang had been prepared for that and easily deflected it. She said, “I want to be released. Whether or not my prison term can be shortened will now depend on you, Sister Zhou.”
Lao Zhou knew immediately that something was amiss. She quickly asked, “What is that supposed to mean?”
Just as she finished voicing her question, a flurry of footsteps could be heard coming from outside. Several police officers arms with guns barged in from the side and aimed their black steel weapons at them. More accurately, the weapons were aimed at Lao Zhou.
Wang Zhuang raised both her hands in the air. She passed the digital voice recorder to one of the police officers and said, “Officer, I’ve recorded her intentions. You may listen to it later. I’m sure it’ll come in useful.”
The police officer took the recorder but didn’t relax his stance. With a wave of his hand, his subordinates stepped forward to handcuff Lao Zhou.
Lao Zhou was surrounded. She found that she couldn’t summon the will to resist. Staring at Wang Zhuang, she angrily ground out, “You betrayed me!”

Lao Zhou was further incensed but was very quickly hustled away.
Ye Youyou crouched in a corner watching the entire situation unfold. Only after Wang Zhuang and Lao Zhou had been handcuffed and led away did she release a sigh of relief.
The police officer that received the voice recorder walked up to her and looked at her before asking, “Are you alright?”
Ye Youyou nodded her head, still a little shaken with fear. Instinctively, she reached her hand out and rested in on her flat abdomen.
The police officer noticed Ye Youyou’s subtle action. In a gentler tone, he said, “You’ve had a hard time. Mr. Li has been waiting for you for a long time. You’re released now.”
1Ye Youyou was stunned. She looked at the police officer. Unsure that she had heard correctly, she asked, “What?”
The police officer could tell from Ye Youyou’s expression that she was confused and patiently explained, “We will investigate the background of this person. You may go outside now. You don’t have to stay in this prison any longer.”
