113 Floating.

-SHH... Reporting the situation to all of the units. A group of monsters has invaded the city center. I repeat. A large group of monsters has invaded the city center. This is a level 3 danger situation. I repeat. A level 3 danger situation. All the agents please contact your superiors to further instructions.

Kain listened to the voice coming from the communication tool on his ear and put more force into his legs to run faster.

“Papa, where are we going?”

He hugged the kid in his arms tougher and answered his question.

“We are going to find your mama.”

“Unnn...”

Airyan grabbed his father’s clothes and buried his head in his shoulder.

“Papa, what happened to the city?”

“I don’t know.”

.....

KIEEE

“Uh!”

The kid flinched and hugged his father’s shoulder toughly after hearing that scary noise.

“Close your eyes.”

Ariyan would do that even if he wasn’t told. He lowered his head and closed his eyes. The last thing that he saw before closing his eyes was a water droplet floating in the air.

Kairen could hear the words of the woman through the communication tool. Actually, he didn’t need anyone to tell him about the situation as he was currently in a fight with the monster.

‘Huff. Damn it. Why are they scattered all over the place?’

Kairen wiped the sweat off his forehead and cast another spell. There were no other monsters around, yet it was better for him to have the spell ready.

“Thank you!”

“Mister mage, you saved us!”

Kairen looked at the people whom he had just saved from the monster.

“It is safe in the teleportation center. You can stay there until the agents arrive.”

“Thank you so much.”

“Let’s go.”

“We are saved!”

The people thanked him again and started to run towards the teleportation center.

Kairen took a deep breath and ran towards the next monster that he spotted.

‘They said contact your superior... Nah! What am I going to tell team leader Dains if he asks what the fuck I was doing in the teleportation center? How am I going to explain?’

Kairen didn’t want to contact or talk to team leader Dains at all. He was scared of team leader Dains more than the monsters that he was killing.

“Huff. Huff.”

Kairen stopped running even though he hadn’t arrived at the monster yet.

‘This is fucking annoying. Why should I run so much to reach them? Can’t you all stay in one place so that I can kill you without tiring myself?’

It wasn’t hard to kill the monsters. It was really easy actually. A few super weak energy beams were enough to kill most of the monsters.

But in order to kill them, Kairen had to know where they were. He had to be in a position where he could hit them with his magic. And to do so, Kairen had to run around the whole time.

He wasn’t tired because he used too much mana, he was tired because of running. Kairen didn’t have a body like Reyan or Darren who could run for hours without getting tired, there was no need for him to have one. A mage didn’t need to move a lot. In a battle, mages would stay a safe place where they could see and kill all the enemies without needing to move much.

‘A safe place where one can see and kill...’

A thought crossed his mind.

“....”

Kairen blinked his eyes a few times and shook his head.

‘Nah. I’m stupid, but not to that extent.’

He started to walk towards the monster again, but he stopped after a few steps.

‘That would be a lot easier if I succeed though...’

Kairen looked up at the sky. He thought for a moment before starting to walk again.

‘Nah. It’s too dangerous. I’ll die for real if I fail...’

He stopped again after a few more steps.

‘Ah, damn it! It sounds too thrilling. Just imagining it feels refreshing...’

Kairen gulped.

‘I’ll just try it a little bit.’

Kairen nodded his head with a smile.

He would just test it for a little bit, and if he saw that he couldn’t handle it he would just continue to run around.

“Hmm hmm.”

Kairen closed his eyes and concentrated. Mana whirled around him and the symbols surrounding his body shone brightly. The next second, Kairen felt his body moving up.

After a few seconds, Kairen could feel the voices of people and monsters fading little by little. He took a deep breath and opened his eyes.

“Whoah!”

He gasped when he saw the scene in front of his eyes, no, the scene under his feet.

“What the hell man, not a single unscathed bone will remain in my body if I fall from this high...”

Kairen had used the highest level float magic that he knew in himself so that he could float in the air and see the monsters better.

It was dangerous, really dangerous. He gulped after imagining the horrible death he would face if he failed to maintain the float spell and fell from this place.

Kairen took another deep breath and shook off those thoughts. Now that he had done such a crazy thing, he had to use it to the fullest he could.

Kairen quickly cast the spell, creating numerous energy beams.

From that height, he could clearly see all of the monsters in the area. He didn’t need to move, he could just kill them from where he was floating and then go back down in order to not to be spotted.

Kairen looked at the closest monster to him. The monster was also looking up at him. Kairen smiled, aimed at the monster, and sent an energy beam towards it.

A shiny line was created in the air where the energy beam had passed in its way to the monster.

BOMM

The energy beam hit the monster, exploded, and killed it in an instant.

“Heh!”

Kairen turned his head to look at the other monster. Again, he aimed at him and sent another beam towards him.

Reyan turned off the communication device after hearing the announcement. The voices talking in there made it hard for him to concentrate. Plus, he was already with his superior so there was no need to worry.

Team leader Dains stepped on a monster’s corpse and looked around. There were monsters wherever he looked. He turned to look at the subordinate that had been following him.

The two of them had been killing monsters for about half an hour now. They had been fighting nonstop, yet the monsters didn’t end. There were still a lot of monsters left while the two of them were becoming tired the more they continued.

This kind of fight wasn’t really one that he liked. First of all, their unit wasn’t supposed to deal with monsters. Not monsters at this scale. To be able to get rid of all these monsters, they needed to have at least a few skilled mages.

‘If only Zak was here...’

He couldn’t help but be reminded of the great mage that used to work under him. He would be able to solve this problem if he was here.

‘Really, where is he? His city is under attack and he doesn’t want to show up?’

Just when he was having such thoughts, something caught his attention.

‘What is that...’

Far in the distance, he could see a dot floating in the air. There were smalled shiny dots all around the big dot. One of those smaller shiny dots moved and left the big dot’s side and hit a monster.

BOMM

.....

The monster turned to dust as soon as it was hit by that shiny dot.

“....”

Then, the other dots all around the bigger one moved and hit other monsters, killing all of them in an instant.

“....”

“...That-”

Team leader Dains turned towards Reyan who had suddenly started talking.

He was pointing at the black dot with the tip of his sword. He looked at the team leader with a dumbfounded face.

“Isn’t that him?”

“....”

Team leader Dains looked at the scene again. The dot was now moving forward while floating in the air.

“No one else is stupid enough to do such a thing...”

He heard Reyan’s mumbles. Team leader Dains agreed with him. He didn’t know anyone else who would do such a stupidly crazy thing.
