CHAPTER 85 LUKE "Yeah. We got the phone. No, we didn't find anything. We're going to drive up the road and look for anything or maybe see if anyone saw something. Good. Yes." Josh spoke over the phone while pacing back and forth beside the car. I wanted to pull out my phone and call my parents, but I waited for Josh to finish up with Sam and the police.

"Okay. They are sending a squad to patrol this area, and they sent out an AMBER alert," Josh breathed as he checked his phone in the back seat..

"You should call your parents, man," I said, trying to say it softly, considering the relationship they have.

"I did. They didn't answer-it's like midnight in Europe now. I left a message. I'm sure they'll call back," Josh said, but I could see the hint of disappointment there. Neither of our parents was going to win any Best Parent Awards any tsoon. "Okay. So we drive?" I said, opening the door, and Josh nodded. "Yes." We were driving for a bit when Josh suddenly hit the dashboard. "Stop!" I slammed on the brakes, the tail of my Jeep swerving a little. "What the hell, man?" I breathed, gripping the steering wheel for dear life.

"I swear I just saw someone running in the woods," Josh said, 0.00% and I looked out over the dark patch of forest. We had a national forest between our little town and the city, and it was easy enough to get lost in it. I reversed slowly while Josh surveyed, but there was nothing-just the hum of my Jeep. "I don't see anything, man. Let's go," I finally said, turning my head back to the road, only to find a girl standing in the headlights.

"Fuck!" I screamed, my heart leaping out of my chest. Josh was out the door so fast I only saw a blur. He was there, catching her just as she dropped. I couldn't make out her face, but I saw brown hair and a prom dress. Josh looked up, "It's Laura! Call an ambulance!" 1 got out of the Jeep and pulled up the number, rambling off the last intersection we passed. "Okay. Ambulance and police are on the way," I yelled, running over.

It was Laura; she was unconscious. "I can't get them off. Get them off," Josh repeated over and over, trying to undo the ropes binding her wrists behind her back. I pulled out my pocket knife and cut them off. Josh immediately took her hands in his and held her, kissing her to himself and to Laura over and over.

I raked my hands through my hair, looking up and down the road for any signs of someone else.

Suddenly, Laura sat up, pulling away from Josh and backing up on the ground, her bare legs scraping over the tar.

"No, Laura! It's okay. It's me. It's Josh and Luke. You're safe!" Josh held up his palms, and I backed off to give her room. Her 27.77% CHAPTER 85 eyes were wide and frantic, flipping between us, and then her lip started quivering, and tears began rolling down her cheeks. "He has her. He has Jess. She made sure I got out, but he still has her," she sobbed, and I felt my heart sink.

I was happy we found Laura, but would be a liar if I wasn't angry and disappointed that it wasn't Jess, and I know that makesall the types of fucked up, but...

"Laura, could you see how it was? What does the truck look like?" Josh asked softly. I wanted to shake her for information, but that wouldn't help anyone right now, so I stood back, my fists clenched, forcing myself to remain calm. She was just kidnapped, and my anger and 'Josh, let's get her out of the road. The ambulance is about 10 minutes out," I told him, and Josh nodded, picking up Laura, who immediately dropped her head on his shoulder as if her life had just drained out of her.

"Is she hurt anywhere?" I asked him, but he shook his head.

"I can't be sure, though. I don't know what... if..." Josh trailed off. We were We were both thinking the sthing, and thinking the neither of us was ready to go down that road. Not when the road was familiar...

Laura nestled softly into Josh's chest, and I dropped down to her level, looking at Josh. "Stay with her while you wait for the ambulance. I'm going to drive. If she wakes up and remembers something, call me," I said, looking between Josh and Laura.

I was about to stand up when Laura gripped my arm. "It's a police vehicle.

We were in a police vehicle," she 上 murmured before passing out again...
