| CHAPTER 31 JESS It's been a week-one whole week-and Luke hasn't acknowledged my presence. In fact, I usually get ignored, but now I get avoided like I carry the bubonic plague or something.

"Look. I know this goes beyond friendship rules, but..." I whispered as I shut the door, but someone bumpedfrom the other side. "Hey! What are you guys 'doing in here without me?" Sam whined, and she stumbled into the bathroom after us.
"Sam. Shhh." I shushed her, and she made a motion to zip her lips.
"Okay. So I need to ask you if my brother mentioned anything about Luke?" I pleaded with her, but Laura just pursed her lips.

He kept muttering something about Luke and needing to have a serious talk." "Ugh, for the life of me, I can't figure out why Luke refuses to acknowledge me. Maybe all of it was just in my head. Maybe it was a dream. I'd dreamt all of it, and now I'm going mad, "I CHAPTER 32 muttered, running a hand through my hair. "Just what I need." "What's going on, Jess?" Sam asked, her eyes wide with curiosity. I'd forgotten I didn't tell her yet. Laura only knew because she kind of walked in on sof it.
I sighed, feeling the weight of the past week bearing down on me. "Luke and I... almost... you know." Sam's eyes widened even more, and Laura's jaw dropped. "Almost? Like, how almost?" Sam asked, her voice barely a whisper.
"Almost," I confirmed, feeling my cheeks heat up. "But Josh interrupted us, and now Luke's been avoidingever since." Just as I was about to say something else, a bathroom stall opened, and Tiffany, the head cheerleader and self- proclaimed soon-to-be homecoming queen, walked out. She gave all three of us a very knowing look like she had heard the entire conversation. My heart sank. This was the last thing I needed.
Sam and Laura both cursed under their breaths, exchanging worried glances.
"Well, well, well," Tiffany said, a smirk playing on her lips. "Isn't this interesting? Jess and Luke, huh?"
