Chapter 540 There’s Hope Before the Result Comes Out
Huston didn’t believe it. This was impossible.
But…
He slowly turned to look at the river. Everything was charred black. The strong smell on his breath
reminded him that everything was real and not an illusion.
Firefighters were rushing around in search and rescue while Huston stood still, slightly hunched over as
if unable to straighten up due to extreme pain. “It’s impossible, absolutely impossible…” he murmured.
As time went by, the sky gradually darkened. After hearing the news, Kevin rushed to the scene with
his medical team. As soon as he got out of the car, his body stiffened.
There was no need for rescue. It was already in a mess.
He caught sight of the man standing at the broken railing, and a bitter ache filled his heart. He dared
not dwell on it too deeply, afraid that he would drown in this sorrow.
Kevin closed his eyes and quickly walked over. At the same time, a firefighter walked toward Huston.
He was wearing a gas mask, and his voice was not very clear. “We’ve found this, Mr. Lloyd…”

of the chain was covered with many burnt impurities, but Huston could still make out a little bit of the
chain.
Because of this, Huston could not help but tremble uncontrollably when his gaze landed on the chain.
This chain would have completely shattered his obsession if he had still held on to the last shred of
hope earlier.
He gave it to her. At that time, he deliberately asked someone to make an exception for her so that she
could wear it all the time. But now, it appeared in the fireman’s hands…
The chain was still there, but she was gone.
Huston stared blankly as he watched the fireman put the chain into a transparent bag and seal it before
handing it over to him.
When his fingertips touched the cold sealed bag, his heart kept twisting. He suddenly felt dizzy when
he thought of how she used to smile sweetly when wearing this chain.
Kevin quickly supported him, feeling a myriad of emotions welling up inside. His eyes grew warm with
tears as he said, “Huston…”
Before he could finish his sentence, the man beside him
suddenly struggled fiercely, lunging towards the broken railing.
Kevin thought he had a dangerous idea and quickly joined the firefighters to restrain him and pull him
back.
“What are you doing? Are you crazy?” Kevin roared in exasperation as he watched Huston fall onto the
ground as if he had lost all of his strength.
“Kevin…” Huston looked at the darkening sky and called out to Kevin in a choked voice. Tears welled
up in his eyes, gathering at the corners before cascading down. “Her necklace is here, but she’s gone.
Can you tell me why?”
He watched the firemen swim back and forth. They were looking for the girl in his heart. But why did
they have to look for her on the river?
Kevin squatted beside him and looked at his despondent
expression. He could not bear to say that cruel answer. “There’s still hope before the result comes out.”

A strange smile appeared on Huston’s face. “Yes, there’s still hope. What if, what if she…”
Speaking of this, he paused again and was stunned for a while. Then he raised his hands to cover his
cheeks and burst into tears. “The fire is too big. The car has melted. She is so small and delicate. How
can she resist it…”
The reality was cruel and cold. He had to believe it.
“How did it end up like this?” He muttered. No one responded.
How could something happen to the woman he wanted to put in his arms and carefully take care of?
An hour ago, she was still talking to him so lively. He even remembered her expression when she
spoke, and he could even smell the fragrance from her body. But in the blink of an eye, everything
disappeared, sinking into this terrible river and disappearing.
The blaring sound of sirens continued to echo as if proclaiming the abruptness of the incident. The sky
had plunged into. darkness, and the night wind seemed capable of piercing Huston’s eyes. His tears
flowed incessantly, unstoppable.
The rescue was still going on.
