Chapter 524 It’s My Honor
The conversation ended on bad terms.
As Evelyn was escorted into the prison, she surveyed her surroundings and again marveled at how
terrifying humans. could be. No matter how harsh the environment was, they would become numb and
indifferent once they adapted.
Just like now, when she sat on this damp little bed, she was no longer as uneasy and uncomfortable as
when she first came here. As long as she got used to it, everything would seem to happen naturally.
This kind of feeling made her very scared. She was worried that her enthusiasm and thoughts would be
erased in such an
environment.
Unsurprisingly, the outcome of this trial would be more severe than she had anticipated. The anger in
Huston’s demeanor and the atmosphere in the courtroom made that clear. The actual judgment would
take about a month to be delivered, so she could only wait patiently.
What would be the result?

twenty years, thirty years, or longer?
Evelyn didn’t dare to think too much about it. She wrapped her arms around her knees to keep herself
warm, as if only in this way could she dispel the oppressive coldness.
“Number 0485!” At that moment, a loud voice rang outside the door, belonging to the prison guard in
charge of her section.
Now, she had lost her name and was left with a cold and easily memorable string of numbers, 0458.
“Here!” Evelyn got up from the bed and walked to the door. A small iron window could be pulled open,
and her face could be seen from the outside.
“There is a call for you. Do you want to answer it?” The prison officer’s attitude was rough, and he
wasn’t exactly polite when speaking.
Evelyn didn’t know who was calling at this critical moment. Could it be a call from Ben and Lucy?
Thinking of her parents, she couldn’t help saying, “I’ll answer it
now!”
The prison guard glanced at her and opened the door to let her out. Her handcuffs were still on, but the
leg shackles were not. It seemed that Huston had used a lot of connections to avoid that
step.
Evelyn entered a room designated explicitly for receiving phone calls. The room had transparent walls
and several tables with a telephone at each corner. The telephone could only receive
incoming calls and couldn’t be used to make outgoing calls. She picked up the phone cautiously and
answered softly, “Hello?”
“Hello, it’s me.” Unexpectedly, it was a magnetic male voice.
Evelyn was stunned. “Who are you?”
“You forgot my voice so quickly? It seems I have to say a few more words when I see you next time.”
The man joked with her skillfully.
The only person who would speak to her in such a tone was…
Bert.
Evelyn couldn’t help tightening her grip on the phone. Before she could speak, Bert seemed to have
read her mind and said, “Don’t be nervous. Why are you always so afraid of me?”
Evelyn was speechless.

held today. How was it? How were you feeling?”
With her eyelashes trembling slightly, Evelyn swallowed and said with difficulty, “It’s not good.”
“In my opinion, you must be unable to restrain yourself from turning over the confession in court, right?”
Evelyn’s heart skipped a beat, and she frowned. “How did you know?”
J
Why?
Bert smiled. “Because I know you.”
This woman had a magical power that made people couldn’t help but explore more. Every time he saw
her petite body, he couldn’t help but want to delve deeper and explore the extent of the energy hidden
within her.
Evelyn sighed and narrowed her eyes. “You do know me very well, Mr. Harper.”
Her affirmation surprised Bert. From their first meeting until now, they had encountered each other
several times, but this was the first time she had expressed certainty in him.
“It’s my honor.”
“But you’re not calling me to hear me praise you, are you?”
Hearing this, Bert suddenly laughed. His deep voice was as pleasant as the string of a cello. “You’re
right. I do have other purposes.”
