Sarah ignored the sycophantic murmurs around her and made her way to a select few individuals.
These people stood motionless, their minds seemingly adrift, like scarecrows in a field.
Her gaze, one of approval, eventually rested on lan.
"Doctor, is there a problem?"
She flicked her finger casually, "Have him cwith me."
The man beside her looked visibly uncomfortable. Normally, personnel weren't allowed to move between zones. That Sarah could
do so was a privilege from the higher-ups. Now she wanted to take someone else with her, and that was.
"Hmm?" Her tone was commanding, causing beads of sweat to form on the man's forehead.
Quickly bowing his head, he chuckled nervously, "Sure, sure, if it's a request from you, Doctor, I'll have him cwith you right
away."
Her voice was light, almost breezy, but her intent was unmistakable, "I want him now."
The man's face showed his struggle, but in the end, he stayed silent.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAs lan walked beside Sarah, a glint of cold intent passed through his eyes. It seemed she had a high status in this research base,
and having the chance to be escorted to another zone could be advantageous.
They passed through a couple of corridors, each tier abundant with instruments designed to verify identities.
Sarah led him all the way to the heart of the laboratory. lan was still in his protective suit when she asked, "Can you read?"
This Sarah spoke his language, and even with a flawless accent at that.
"Yes."
"Passthe reagents, and I'll arrange a place for you to sleep tonight," after that, she fell silent.
lan cooperated, passing her the reagents she needed. Half an hour later, she took a call. It appeared to be from one of the high-
ranking officials at the base, inquiring why she was taking someone across different zones.
On this journey, lan had barely managed to grasp an understanding of this segment of the vast base, each area meticulously
designated for specific functions. The outer layer was for transporting people in, and those from the outer layer couldn't enter the
core. The security was stringent.
But clearly, Sarah had made an exception this time.
"I need him; that's all. Maybe in a few days, I'll want to conduct research on him. | won't let him leave alive."
The person on the other end of the call, upon hearing her words, didn't press any further.
Sarah hung up and continued her work nonchalantly, as if those threatening words had never been uttered by her.
lan watched and waited until ten at night when he was finally shown to his resting quarters. The room was modest, about two
hundred square meters, with a bed that was too small for his height. He would have to curl up to fit.
Sarah turned off the lights, sweeping a glanced back at him. lan’s suit and goggles were still on.
The woman walked at the door, and advised in a usual level tone, "Don't go out at night."
With that, she left.
lan stood in the claustrophobic room; its air was stale, relying solely on the ventilation opening above because of the subterranean
location.
A ventilation opening? He looked up and spotted the vent of the room at a glimpse.
While no other access point to the vents was visible elsewhere, here it was, right in this room. He entered the vent, surprised to
find it interconnected with all areas of the base, a labyrinthine network stretching beyond sight.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThis was like a glitch in the structure of the facility.
The vent was only half a meter high, forcing him to stoop as he navigated. After crawling for a few hundred meters, he arrived
above a space where he could hear a woman's voice.
"Why are you hesitant this time?"
"Philip's not happy about it."
"Not happy? What's there for him to be unhappy about, Phil? Don't makeupset."
