He deliberately picked up a book from the side and fanned the aroma in Dylan's direction.
Unmoved, Dylan sat upright, his demeanor serious, and asked, "No clues from those international guys yet?"
Walter gave up and rolled his eyes.
"Don't get your hopes up about them. For all we know, someone among them might have been involved in the research facility's
plans. Now that Forbidden Island has been exposed, every country is playing innocent. If you ask me, the mole is among these
nations. Such a vast island, for years, has been supplying the facility with people, treating the natives like livestock. It's certain
someone has been protecting them."
The world is dirtier than one would imagine.
Years ago, human experimentation was unanimously condemned internationally, with everyone criticizing such inhumane acts.
But experiments on humans yield the most accurate data.
Scountries may appear peaceful on the surface, but behind the scenes, they could be funding these research facilities.
After all, if the experiments succeed, the findings beca powerful weapon in their hands, putting them at least two decades
ahead of other nations.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtNo one can resist such temptation, especially when it's just the lives of ordinary people at stake.
To them, ordinary people are less than ants.
Dylan lifted his hand to massage his temples, his head throbbing with pain.
"The Sanders, the Moore, and the Olson families are all investigating the research facility. There will be leads."
Walter, resting his chin in one hand, looked at the untouched feast on the table.
"As long as we're looking, someone's working to stop us in the shadows. Plus, we don't even know what kind of drugs have come
out of that place. The people taken to the facility are the medical geniuses of decades."
Dylan fell silent too.
One genius was enough to dazzle the world. With so many gathered in one place, whatever they cup with could be legendary
if it benefited humanity or a catastrophe if it was purely destructive.
Walter squinted and smiled, "Those people have been hiding in the shadows for years. Finding leads on them won't be easy. We
need to draw them out, and that's a job for your sister. Isn't K somehow linked to the research facility?"
Luring them out is much better than searching blindly.
This also meant putting Maja in danger.
"No way!"
Dylan rejected the idea without a second thought. Maja had already lost weight and was still recovering.
Walter shrugged, "Then, there's nothing we can do."
Dylan stood up, ready to leave.
"Aren't you going to eat something? You haven't eaten all day, have you?"
"I'm not hungry."
His reply was cool as he strode towards the door.
Walter chuckled. That guy was as stubborn as ever.
Maja had rested for a day when she was awakened in the middle of the night by footsteps in the hospital corridor.
She had been pondering how to find the people from the research facility and had reached the sconclusion as Walter: to draw
them out proactively.
Hearing the footsteps in the hallway, she quickly opened her door and saw doctors rushing towards the room where lan was.
"What happened?"
"There's a bit of an anomaly. We're trying to stabilize him."
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmMaja's heart leaped into her throat.
Restless, she waited until five in the morning when the doctors finally cout.
"How is he?"
Her voice trembled.
The doctor removed his mask, "No need to worry, it's a normal reaction. He should wake up today."
She sighed in relief, looking through the glass window at the bed inside.
"Ms. Pennyfeather, you should get srest."
Maja couldn't sleep, but for the sake of the baby inside her, she forced herself to return to her own room.
