Cynthia stared at him for a few minutes before her lips slightly pursed.
"Do you hone yours skills and strength just to bully others?"
"Cynthia, I..."
He simply couldn't accept it. Why should she care about the weak? If they were gone, they were gone.
"Kneel."
That was all Cynthia said, but her face was heavy with gravity.
"Do you know why I've always refused to teach you medicine? It's because you lack any compassion for the vulnerable. You even
find joy in instilling fear in others. Kid, you've got a wicked streak."
The words "wicked streak" seemed to etch themselves deep within him.
In the dead of night, he would wake up to hear Cynthia repeating those words.
Wicked streak, wicked streak.
How dared Cynthia speak of him that way? He was determined to learn medicine and to excel at it.
The thought was rooted in his mind, along with a crazier idea: he would make Cynthia regret her words.
Afterward, Cynthia becbusier, until one day, she returned, battered and bruised, still intent on taking him away.
"Phelps, BK isn't the place for you. It's too dark here, and it twists you more every day. Cwith me."
At that moment, looking into her eyes, he saw her unwavering resolve. She genuinely seemed to want a normal life and had
worked hard for it.
He couldn't understand why anyone would strive for the ordinary when everyone wanted to be extraordinary.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"My daughter is adorable, you'd like her too."
How many years had he been in BK? The encounters with Cynthia were few, and each tthey met, his only wish was to make
her proud. But Cynthia's concerns were never about his strength but whether he had improved as a person.
She had a daughter?
He felt shocked, then he turned angry.
He'd always craved Cynthia's attention, subconsciously seeing her as a guardian, and always hoping she'd have high expectations
of him.
Yet Cynthia would always ask, "Phelps, are you happy?"
Of course, he was happy. His joy cfrom trampling over others.
But if he admitted that, she wouldn't want to hear it. She'd probably describe him with those words again: wicked streak.
So let him, the one with the wicked streak, be her undoing.
It was she who brought him into the organization, yet refused to mentor him or see him.
On their way out, Cynthia encountered an ambush.
He didn't know who these assailants were, maybe other members of the organization or a rival group.
He was placed in a cave while Cynthia was severely wounded.
"Phelps, wait here. I'll lure them away and cback for you. Don't leave the cave."
She was bleeding too much.
He thought it was just an excuse. She detested him so much that she wouldn't return for him.
Two hours after her departure, he left the cave and found her trying to make her way back, collapsing not far from him.
He froze, but a voice inside told him Cynthia wasn't coming back for him. She never cared for him, and perhaps she was just
passing by in her escape.
He didn't help her; instead, he walked away.
He encountered a group of men with guns, who demanded to know if he'd seen an injured woman.
These men were nasty, grabbing him as if they wanted to kill him.
Without hesitation, he betrayed Cynthia's location.
If she had discarded him, then she deserved death.
"She's over there."
The men rushed towards Cynthia's location, while he was thrown down a hillside, and broke a leg.
Back in the organization, he told the Elders that Cynthia betrayed BK and took the jellyfish seal. The organization was furious,
vowing to hunt her down.
Cynthia beca wanted woman in BK.
Anyone who saw her was to kill her without mercy.
She had abandoned him; it was what she deserved.
Yet, as he grew older, he realized that no matter how many people he killed, it was meaningless.
The words "wicked streak” still haunted him.
Not long after Cynthia disappeared, he learned of his own origins and that he had a twin brother.
"Hey, what are you thinking about?"
Phil noticed his daze and gently tapped his shoulder.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHe slowly shook his head, with a smile in his eyes, "Just reminiscing about the past. If the Holy Daughter is still alive, that would be
quite interesting."
Now, she and her daughter would be prisoners. He wondered if she'd ever regret leaving him behind.
