No sooner had Maja left than Quentin flicked a piece of candy onto Patric’s lap. “Dope, this one’s for
you.” Patric, of course, couldn’t tell if it was a gesture of kindness or malice. The poor guy was
genuinely a dumb now. He picked up the candy, unwrapped it, and popped it into his mouth. Quentin
perched himself on a rock and asked him. “Is it sweet?” “Sweet.” “Really?” He’d never tasted such a
thing before. For someone of his stature, the familiar tang of blood was far more common than the
luxury of sweetness. His stepfather once said that the cloying taste could numb the senses, sapping a
person’s will to fight. As a kid, he’d stolen a piece of candy after an exhausting training session, lured in
by its scent. He thought it would be a fitting reward for his grueling efforts, but before he could swallow
it, he was whipped twice. “Quentin, you’re such a letdown. Touch that stuff again, and I’ll chop off one

happened. So in his memory, candy wasn’t sweet. It tasted of two lashings. It was bloody, painful, and
bitter. Now, watching Patric, who understood nothing of the world, Quentin felt a twinge of envy. The
man appeared to be in his late twenties yet could smile with such innocence. He was satisfied with just
a piece of candy. What a waste of an extra decade of life. Quentin lowered his lashes and pulled out
his phone to contact his crew. “Grab her, find out where the Jellyfish Seal is. Time to bring down the
curtain on this act. Also, block K’s people. Forbidden Island isn’t their playground.” “Mr. Gellar, K sent a
message. He wants to have a serious talk with you.” Now that K knew Maja and Ian were on Forbidden
Island, it would be easy to take them out with the help of Quentin. But Quentin had always been at
odds with him within the organization, and they didn’t get along. Moreover, Quentin rarely showed his
face at the organization, and ever since he took over Forbidden Island, assuming the mantle of Mr.
Gellar, he continued the previous Mr. Gellar’s reign of terror. What he didn’t like simply shouldn’t exist.
“I have nothing to discuss with him.” Quentin’s lips curled. “K says he doesn’t care

about BK and hopes you’ll think it over.” Quentin scoffed. Not care about BK? With its considerable
influence, how could he not? He thought K was full of trickery. Annoyance flickered across his face. “I
don’t want to meet him, nor will I make any deals with him.” “But K’s people have flooded into
Forbidden Island, and there’s more by the day. Recently, we’ve spotted more than a dozen lurking in
the shadows. Who knows how many more there are?” “Leave them. They can’t stir up much trouble. At

again. His mischievous side suddenly kicked in. “Dope, Maja’s about to die.” He wasn’t lying. After
tonight, Maja would be dead. Few could endure the kind of torture she’d face. And since K was looking
for Maja, she must be important to him. Anything that would put K at a disadvantage was a pleasure for
Quentin. As for Maja claiming she was the daughter of the Holy Daughter… After the Holy Daughter left
the organization years ago, she vanished. With her skills, she would have found a place to hide. If she
were alive, she wouldn’t have let her daughter get involved with BK. If she were dead, then the Jellyfish
Seal had inadvertently ended up with Maja. He didn’t care to unravel Maja’s identity. Better to err on the
side of caution than to let her slip away.
