Nonetheless, she pulled out her phone and called her mother. Putting on a relaxed voice, she said, “Mom, I’m at my friend’s house. I’ve had a bit of wine, so I’ll spend the night here.”
“You drank wine? Which friend? Do I know your friend? Is it a boy or girl?” Mia asked routinely. It wasn’t the first tthat her daughter had stayed overnight at a friend’s house. Each time, Kasie would call her to let her know so she didn’t worry.
“Of course it’s a girl. Mom, when have I stayed overnight with a man?”
