Lee Seng and David ascended the stairwell. The echoes of their feet hitting each step traveled throughout the stairwell. David kept up with Lee Seng despite his looks. Lee Seng noticed occasional odd glances from David as they climbed. Lee Seng donned the Fox mask and kept the Dark Matter suit on, which David soon fixated his eyes on.
"S-so what's this black-gray gunk wrapped on your body?" David asked out of curiosity.
"Dark Matter," Lee Seng replied. David began to open his mouth to ask what it was but Lee Seng continued. "It's a by-product of the Biohuman serum which was introduced twenty five years ago. It basically gave us powers through usage over Dark Matter."
"So why do you have that Dark Matter wrapped all around you?" David asked as they rounded the corner, climbing another set of stairs. Lee Seng didn't answer right away. His silence only made David understand that even Lee Seng had secrets he didn't want to share.
"Let's just say…" Lee Seng spoke up after thinking about it for a while. "I'm an experiment from all the other Biohumans."
"An experiment?" David whispered. Lee Seng came to a stop, David almost bumping into him. He looked up and realized they were very high up. David gulped and began to turn as Lee Seng turned to look at the last set of stairs.
"I don't think we'll need to be on the roof for this." Lee Seng told David.
"D-did we have to go so h-high up?" David asked. Lee Seng noticed David was visibly shaking.
"Are you scared of heights?" Lee Seng asked, visibly concerned. David gulped and tried to shake his head no, but the fear had seeped I because he had looked out the window.
"Y-yeah." David stuttered. Lee Seng turned and guided David down the steps to the next landing.
"Stay here. It won't take long." Lee Seng told him. David nodded as he slowly sat down.
'I guess even you have something to be afraid of.' Lee Seng thought as he climbed the stairs. He moved right up to the window and gazed at the city around him.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Street." Lee Seng muttered to himself. He spotted the street they were on. "That's 71st.. so two blocks down…" His finger moved with his eyes, slowly fixating on roughly where 51st street would be.
"About there?" Lee Seng whispered. He looked for somewhere he could potentially portal them to. His eyes landed on a roof and immediately shook that option out of his head. "No… He would definitely die on me."
His eyes zoomed in on one of the many windows. Most had debris from cave ins or weren't too visible with his eagle eye vision. He scoured the buildings and eventually found one that looked usable. He glanced behind him and noticed David was muttering to himself.
"Maybe we'll shoot lower." Lee Seng whispered to himself. He continued to look as low as he could get. The Tall buildings made it hard for him to even spot visible areas but his concern for David was growing.
"I think we'll have to go there." Lee Seng pointed. It looked like an office with stuff littered about. It looked stable enough and would have to suffice for David and himself. Lee Senf spun around and looked at David who was slightly rocking back and forth. "David, you alright?" Lee Seng asked, descending the stairs.
"I-I… I'm fine… I'm fine…" David answered. Lee Seng took a peek at him but David turned away. "I'm fine… I'm fine…"
"Hey, David are you–" Lee Seng reached out as David swatted his arm away. He looked up straight into Lee Seng's eyes with the most scared glare.
"I'M FINE!" David shouted. Lee Seng took a couple steps back. David's breath was quick and unnatural. It sounded like he was having a panic attack. "I'm fine! I'm fine! I'm okay! Nothing to be afraid of!"
"David, I found a safe spot. We can–"
"Why are you worrying about me?!? I-I am a-okay! Hahaha!" David stood straight up.
"I know and–"
"I'm fine! I'm fine! We're all fine! Did you find wh-what you needed to find?" David brushed Lee Seng off. He moved past Lee Seng and turned near the next set of descending stairs.
"Do you need to go down to the ground?" Lee Seng asked. "You're–"
"I'm fine! Okay!" David shouted. Bones protruded out of his entire body. Lee Seng nodded and out his hands together. He gave David a look before cosmic energy began to spark.
"What're you doing?" David pushed himself against the wall, pointing at Lee Seng. His bones were starting to grow. "Stop that. We don't want a-another mishap."
Lee Seng ignored him and continued to pull the energy. He had a clearer picture of the portal and his destination. The cosmic energy billowed in front of Lee Seng as he created the door. David watched in horror as the portal grew bigger and bigger.
"No! Stop!" David bolted straight for Lee Seng. Lee Seng grunted loudly as he opened the portal and watched the cosmic layer between him and David suddenly flicker and show the office. David flew into the office, screaming as Lee Seng stepped in. Lee Seng turned to face the portal and closed it with ease.
"Where am I? What the fuck happened?!?" David shouted. He glanced around, slowly turning to see Lee Seng turning.
"Theory Two worked." Lee Seng nodded.
"You!" David pointed. "What did you just do to me?!? I was, I was, I was panicking and you just tossed me into this place?!? Where the fuck are we?!?"
"Your welcome." Lee Seng folded his lips in and made a mushy smile. David's eyes burned with rage as Lee Seng looked around. "You don't like heights, right? I just helped you. No, 'thank you, Lee Seng, for helping me out there. I have a fear of heights and I'm grateful you didn't make me do anything I didn't want to do'? Harsh customer."
"How can you be sassy and sarcastic right now?!?" David shouted. He took a step closer and Lee Seng glanced out the window.
"We're still high up but it's closer to the ground. You can at least see the road." Lee Seng motioned.
"Enough of your bullshit–"
"Shh." Lee Seng hushed David. A force moved over David's mouth, keeping his mouth closed.
"Mmmm! Mmm mm mmm mm mmm!" David still managed to talk.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"I don't think you get it, dude. I need you to be quiet for like a couple seconds, alright? I need to figure out if there's any enemies around us. Unless you want to be petty and get us into trouble, go ahead." Lee Seng motioned at the door. "Don't be mad when I chuck you out the window."
David instantly stopped making noise. He froze at Lee Seng's threat. Lee Seng emitted a pulse of gravity and waited. He could feel two-ish floors above and below him. It only stretched seventy feet before it stopped.
"Come on. Let's go down quietly." Lee Seng motioned, ripping off the hold on David's mouth.
The two slowly exited the office room and entered a large office space. It was probably once a manager's office, but was now left to hold it's history forever silent. Lee Seng and David took a look around the large office space. Cubicles all around with desks and an assortment of office supplies and papers left to collect dust.
'No office equipment?' Lee Seng observed.
"Why's this place so big?" David complained. "I just want to be done with this job." He shuffled forward, Lee Seng watching him head to the nearest door. David opened the first door he saw, disappointed it wasn't the exit. He closed the door and continued onto the next door.
Lee Seng trailed behind, amused as the next door David opened was the correct one. It led into a hallway that intersected with another hallway. David stopped in the middle of the T-intersection and looked left and right.
"I don't even know where we're going." David grumbled as he decided to go right. Lee Seng followed after, keeping a close enough distance to David as he let out vibrations.
'Nothing so far. That's good.' Lee Seng thought. David moved past the elevators to the next door and opened it. The door banged, echoing in the stairwell.
"Finally." David grumbled, stepping through. The sound of something snapping alerted David and Lee seng. David watched as darts fired at him. With a yelp, David threw his arms out. A layer of bones forged a shield that quickly deflected the darts as they flew at him.
A vibration blip flew out of Lee Seng's foot, immediately catching his attention from above and below him.
"Shit." Lee Seng cursed. He moved to the stairwell door and attempted to pull David in. His bone shield slammed into the door frame, letting out another curse. "It's a trap! There's enemies above and below us!"
"Get your hand off me!" David pulled away.
"They're coming!"
"What if they are?!? I'll deal with them!" David pulled his arms apart. Bone arm swords replaced his crude shield as the first. "I'll show you I'm not worthless!"
