Chapter 336: Distance Killian's POV It had been days since Ryker had last seen Giselle, and Ryker still hadn't asked a single question about her mother.

At first, I was afraid of what he'd say, dreading the moment he'd lookin the eye and ask, Where's my mother? I couldn't bring myself to tell him the truth, knowing how much it would break him.

How could I possibly explain to him that Giselle is not her mother, and that she's dead.

In his whole life, Ryker believed that Giselle was his mother - she'd raised him, after all, and he'd known her as nothing else.

I know it would be difficult for him to accept and process the whole truth, and I was trying my best to avoid the confrontation from him.

But now... I'm no longer just worried about Ryker's difficult questions now I wasn't just avoiding the question. I am now worried wondering why he still haven't askedany question.

In the days that had passed, he hadn't asked even once. Not a word about Giselle.

No concern, no curiosity. Just silence. And it was that silence that was starting to gnaw at me, leavingboth worried and confused.

Is he not worried about Giselle? Doesn't he miss her? Or was he just caught up in his own world that he had completely forgotten about Giselle? I need to tell this to Astrid as soon as she arrives. I also want to know what she would think about this.

I was deep in thought when my phone buzzed, snappingout of it. Astrid's nlit up on the screen.

I answered quickly, the hope in my chest rising as I thought she's on her way back.

She said that she'd only stay there for a day.

"Hey," I said, trying to keep the eagerness from my voice. "Are you on your way? I'm not doing anything right now, I can cand fetch you." I stood up from my seat eager to just run to where she is. The reason why I'm not doing anything is because I can't focus on doing anything. All I could think about was her coming back.

Her voice cthrough, a bit strained. "I'm sorry, Killian. I won't be able to make it as expected. Something's cup, and I'm...well, I'm a bit tied up right now." Disappointment settled heavily in my chest, but I pushed it down. "Oh. When do you think you'll be back?" It must be something very important, something that Astrid had to take care on her own.

She hesitated, her silence saying more than her words. "I don't know. Honestly, I have no idea when I'll be able to return." The sadness tightened, and for a moment, I wanted to ask her to cback, to tell her I needed her here. But I held back. The last thing Astrid needed was more pressure from me.

"It's alright," I replied, doing my best to sound reassuring. "Just...whenever you need anything, you can call me. I'll be here, ready to help you with whatever you need." Silence hung between us for a moment. Although I wanted to go to where she is now and help her, I need to control myself and respect her decisions.

I need to trust her in this, even though I missed her. It's only been a few days since we reconciled and confessed to each other and I felt like she is being taken away fromagain.

"Thank you, Killian," she replied softly, the warmth in her voice easing the ache just a little.

"Astrid," I began, my voice softer that I intended before she ends the call. "Cback as soon as you can. Please. I know you need to be where you are right now, but Ryker - he misses you, and I miss you too," I paused, letting her process my words.

I could hear her slow steady breathing through the speaker. "Honsetly, Ryker misses you more than he misses Giselle, and he doesn't even know that you were his real mother yet." I stopped, hoping the gravity of my words would reach her.

"Until now, Ryker still hadn't askedabout Giselle yet, but he had asked a lot about that its Still we both know that psy a matter of time. I think itwould be best if we tell her the truth, Astrid, before he starts asking questions." I fell silent as I awaited Astrid's answer. I was expecting her to be excited or to cry out with joyful tears even that she could finally tell Ryker that she is his mother and fully connect with him as mother and son.

Instead, I was met with a long pause on the other end of the line. "Astrid, are you still there?" I asked, thinking that maybe she didn't hear me." "Killian, I.." I could almost hear her thoughts racing inside her head.

"I think it would be best if we wait a bit more," she finally continued.

My brows furrowed. I thought she would be happy. Last tshe couldn't wait to tell Ryker the truth.

"I mean... I think it would be best to wait for a few more days. I'll tell Ryker the truth myself I want to be the one to break the news to him," she answered decisively. My mouth went shut, not knowing what to say. I waited, thinking that she would explain her reason behind her decision, but she didn't.

"Killian, I got to go. I have a meeting I have to attend to," she spoke urgently.

"Okay... Just don't forget if there's something bothering you, don't hesitate to call me, okay? I love you Astrid."
