Chapter 983

Kevan looked up and locked eyes with Larissa. “Come here.” He reached out for her and spoke in a very soft voice.

Larissa went over to hold his hand tightly.

His hand was cold as usual and it was actually colder as the thermostat in the hall was not turned on.

Larissa said nothing, and she did not ask either.

She only straightened up and stood next to Kevan.

Together, they accepted the respects paid by the guests.

Kevan’s network of connections was too big.

There were so many guests that the funeral service only officially ended by the evening.

Larissa had stood with Kevan for a very long time, and she was wearing heels. Moreover, she had not drunk any

water at all through the service, but she did not feel temible.

It was likely because the pain she felt mentally was greater than the pain she felt physically, so her whole body was

numb.

“Will you keep vigil tonight?” Larissa asked Kevan

Bethany’s body would be buried tomorrow. It would be placed here tonight.

Kevan shook his head. “No.”

Bethany was not his real daughter. She was only a child that he was a little bit more familiar with compared to a

stranger. This funeral

service was only held because his parents had insisted on it.

“Are you tired?” Kevan asked Larissa with his eyes lilled with concern.

“Just a little hungry,” Larissa finally sensed the pain in her stomach. “Let’s go eat somewhere.”

“Okay,” Kevan led her out of the hall.

Larissa turned back to see Anthony, who remained in the hall. She asked, “Is Mr. Rogers not leaving?”

“My dad wants to keep vigil.” Kevan’s voice was calm. “Although Bethany was not his real granddaughter, she is still

a Rogers. My Uncle Bernard’s family is gone, so he can only put up a front for him.”

“What about Cody? He’s Bethany’s real dad. He didn’t even show up at a time like this?

Larissa knew that Kevan’s Uncle Bernard had been sentenced for exploiting minors. Alter that, Edmund had been

jailed for causing trouble in Westonia, Aunt Maria went to cause trouble at the Rogers family home and ended up

getting sent into a psychiatric hospital. The only person left was Bethany’s real lather, Cody.

“Cody’s dead,” Kevan said calmly like he was talking about the weather.

“What?” This shocked Larissa. “When? Why didn’t I see this on the news?”

She got criticized by Lewis and Wendy for not caring about Caldorian news. Thus, Larissa developed a habit of

scrolling through Instagram before bed to see there was anything big happening in Caldor.

She saw that Soaring Corporation was completely bankrupt, and saw how Cody lelt the building with his tail tucked

between his legs. But

she never saw anything about Cody’s death.

“It was just two days ago, and it’s not something glorious, so I kept it quiet.” Kevan did not want to talk more about

this, so he changed the subject. “What do you want to eat? After that, we can go to my mom’s place and bring

Aster home.”

As expected, Larissa’s attention was distracted the moment Aster was mentioned.

“Is Aster okay? And Mrs. Rogers.”

Kevan lelt nothing for Bethany, so he could be very calm in the face of her death, But Violet was different. She had

truly raised Bethany for

Larissa could not Imagine how badly Violet had suffered because of Bethany’s death.

“Aster’s fine. We didn’t tell him, and he doesn’t need to know anyway. As for my mom- Kevan was silent for a few

seconds. “She’s very sad. But she needed to take care of Aster, so she did not come to the service today. We’ll

bring Aster home today, and she can send Bethany off tomorrow morning.”

“Okay.” Larissa sighed softly. “I take care of Aster tomorrow. You should send Bethany off too. After all she called

you ‘Dacdy for so

many years.”

Bethany was the most innocent one in this whole mess. No matter the motives her real parents had when they

gave birth to her, and no matter how her real parents had lied to her, Kevan was still her real father in her heart.

“Twon’t go.” Kevan’s expression remained unchanged, but his hand lightened around Larissa’s. I can’t bear to face

her.”
