Chapter 376 The force of the slap was so fierce that Vincent's head jerked violently to the side, his ears ringing from the blow.

Scarlet shook out her stinging hand and sneered, "Vincent, don't be so ungrateful. Don't forget, we're both in this mess together. Even if you help Claire now, don't expect her to thank you for it." Vincent slowly turned to look at Claire.

When his gaze met Claire's, filled with nothing but bitter resentment, his heart clenched painfully, as if an invisible hand was twisting it tighter and tighter.

His eyes brimmed with regret and longing. "Claire, I only tried to take you away because I love you so much. Please, don't hate me. I swear, if you choose to be with me, I'll never hurt you again." His voice trembled with pleading, like a child desperate for forgiveness after doing something wrong.

Claire let out a cold, mocking laugh. "How pathetic," she scoffed, her eyes dripping with contempt.

Her reaction cut Vincent deeply.

Fuming, he wheeled himself over to the cage and gritted out, "Claire, what do you even want from me? I'm like this-all because of you. Don't think I don't know the truth. If it wasn't for you, my legs wouldn't be broken. It must've been Sean who did this tohe's the one who ruined me!" He pressed on bitterly, "I lost my legs for you, but I never once hated you for it. And you? You spent five years in prison-so what? You're still whole, aren't you? Not missing any limbs. How is your suffering worse than mine? Even if I misunderstood you and accidentally sent you to jail, losing my legs more than repaid that debt." "We were so close in the orphanage. You used to be so sweet and kind. Now you nitpick every little thing. Do you even realize how insufferable you've become?" Vincent finally spat out all his pent-up resentment.

Claire's smile turned icier still.

So this was how he really felt.

She should've known-Vincent would never change.

He was the one at fault, yet he showed not a shred of remorse. He'd sent her to prison and left her broken, but somehow, in his mind, his own suffering excused everything he'd done to her.

How dare he? The nerve.

Claire couldn't even bring herself to respond. She turned away, refusing to look at him, unwilling to waste another glance on someone so shameless.

"CLAIRE!" Vincent's voice was rising, his emotions slipping out of control.

"What do you want from me? When is it ever enough? I've never met a woman as impossible as you." But no matter what he said, Claire paid him no mind.

Vincent shook with frustration. "Fine.

If that's how you feel, then I'm done. Scarlet, do whatever Scarlet, do whatever you want with her. I'm out." Scarlet let out a scornful laugh. "I told you before-someone like her isn't worth your time." She set down the knife she'd been holding and strode into the kitchen.

When she returned, she was carrying a steaming basin of scalding hot water.

Standing before the iron cage, Scarlet smirked at Claire. "Listen, slut. Get down on your knees and beg for forgiveness-one hundred times. Admit you're worthless, that you're nothing but trash. Do that, and maybe I'll let you go." Claire didn't look at her, didn't even acknowledge the words.

Scarlet's patience snapped. "Still want to play to Let's see how tough you really are!" With that, she hurled the entire basin of boiling water straight at Claire.
