Chapter 365 The next morning dawned bright and clear. Sunlight poured through the curtains, bathing Claire's room in a gentle, golden warmth.

After getting herself ready, Claire made her way downstairs at a leisurely pace. As she entered the living room, she spotted Sean sitting on the sofa, engrossed in the morning paper.

He looked up at the sound of her footsteps, his gaze softening as he met her eyes.

Claire blinked, a little surprised. "Mr. Foster, aren't you going to work today?" Sean set the newspaper aside, his tone calm but tinged with unexpected tenderness. "Are you planning to visit Nathan and Vanessa today?" "Did Jeffry tell you?" He nodded, his attention never wavering from her. "Yes." Nervously, Claire twisted the hem of her shirt. "I am planning to see them. There are sthings I need to settle, one way or another." She hesitated, then continued, "Mr. Foster, if you cwith me... won't it interfere with your work?" Sean shook his head gently. "Don't worry. I've already asked Liam to handle things at the office." Claire fell silent for a moment, then nodded, letting the matter drop. She knew Sean well enough by now-once he'd made up his mind to do something, nothing could change it.

By the tthey stepped outside, Jeffry had already pulled the car up to the front door. Once everyone was settled inside, he started the engine with practiced ease.

Claire sat in the backseat, gazing out at the familiar city streets as they slipped past the window. Her heart ached with a bittersweet longing-not for the city itself, but for Sean and her grandmother. She knew that once she left, there might be no coming back.

The drive passed in silence. Eventually, they reached the edge of the city and began the long trek into the remote hills.

The mountain road was rough and narrow, riddled with potholes and rocks. Every step was a challenge, especially for Claire, who still walked with a limp. She gritted her teeth, trying to appear unfazed, but Sean noticed the strain in her every movement.

He crouched in front of her, his voice low and gentle. "Hop on. I'll carry you." Claire shook her head. "The path's too rough. It'll be even harder if you carry me. I can manage." But Sean was insistent. "Con. If something happens to you, I'll never forgive myself." His tone left no room for argument.

Looking at him, Claire felt a wave of emotion she couldn't quite put into words. After a moment's hesitation, she climbed onto Sean's back.

He rose steadily, adjusting her position so she'd be more comfortable, his arms securely supporting her legs. Jeffry walked ahead, carefully picking the safest path and glancing back from tto tto check on them. The trail was steep and uneven, scattered with sharp rocks and deep ruts. Sean moved slowly, placing each step with care, determined not to jostle Claire more than necessary.

Resting her head against his back, Claire was overwhelmed with guilt. "Mr. Fostermaybe you should putdown. I really can walk." She whispered the words close to his ear.

Sean only shook his head. "Hold on. We're almost there." His voice was steady and reassuring. Claire could only cling to him, silently taking comfort in the warmth of his broad shoulders.

They continued on for what felt like ages. Sweat beaded on Sean's m forehead and soaked through the back of his shirt, but he never slowed or complained. When Claire noticed the perspiration trickling down his face, she reached out and gently wiped it from his brow.

Sean caught the gesture and managed a weary smile, the fatigue momentarily forgotten.

At last, a cluster of rundown houses appeared in the distance, lookingn lagast oddly out of place against the backdrop of rolling green hills and clear blue streams.
