Chapter 268 Mandy woke up at the crack of dawn. After a quick wash, she set out for the Foster residence.

She'd already gotten the address from her mother the night before.

There was a good reason for Mandy and Claire's close bond.

To Claire, in the entire Linwood family, only May had ever treated her kindly.

And Mandy had gone even further. On the day of Claire's college entrance exams, Mandy braved a downpour, pedaled her bike across town to deliver Claire's admission slip-and ended up breaking her right wrist in a nasty fall.

The injury meant Mandy's hand was painfully slow during her own high school entrance exams. She missed out on the top schools and wound up at an ordinary one instead.

Claire had carried guilt over that for years.

Neither May nor Mandy owed her anything, yet they'd always treated her with nothing but genuine warmth. So, after Claire was released from prison, when the Linwoods threatened her using May and Mandy, she kept silent and endured it all-she couldn't bear to let them suffer because of her again.

To Mandy, Claire was more than just a big sister-she was a mentor.

When Claire started high school, Mandy was just entering middle school. Before she met Claire, Mandy's grades had always been pretty average. Becoming top of her class was only possible because Claire, a star student herself, tutored her one-on-one.

For three straight years, Claire never once missed a session.

Mandy stayed at the top of her class all the way through middle school, winning scholarships every year and easing her mother's burden.

Even though her injured hand slowed her down during her high school entrance exams and she ended up at a regular school, Claire never forgot about her-not even while she was behind bars. During one of her mother's visits, Claire made sure to send her all her high school notes.

That was the real reason Mandy, coming from an ordinary school, managed to get into Cresthaven Institute of Technology-a top university.

Someone as good as Claire didn't deserve to be bullied by a pack of heartless people.

Mandy was determined to get Claire out of there, to take her far away from all that toxicity.

The Foster Residence.

Claire blinked awake, still a little groggy.

She remembered waiting in the living room for Mr. Foster to chlast night.

She must have dozed off from exhaustion... and now, it was morning.

Looking around, she realized she was back in her own room. It had to be Mr. Foster who'd carried her upstairs. She couldn't help but blush a little.

Ever since she arrived at the Fosters', it seemed like she was constantly imposing on him.

Claire felt a pang of guilt.

She wanted to do something for Sean, but honestly, he lacked for nothing.

After a moment's thought, she decided she'd make him breakfast.

Once she'd washed up, she headed downstairs. Before stepping into the kitchen, she unlocked the front door-just in case Liam or Jeffry showed up and rang the bell. With her hearing loss, she might not notice.

At that very moment, Mandy arrived outside the Foster residence.

She tilted her head back and took in the house before her-a mansion straight out of a European fairytale.

Cream-colored marble walls shimmered in the morning sun, their soft luster hinting a quiet grandeur.

a Every comer was adorned with intricate carvings, exuding a sense of unrivaled luxury. Majestic columns held up the grand portico, where wrought-iron scrollwork added a touch of delicate artistry.

The front garden was a riot of color, overflowing with flowers of every variety. Their fragrance filled the air, and each blossom looked as if it had been sculpted by a master's hand.

Mandy gazed at the scene, unable to stop herself from wondering: With all her, was Claire this opulence la fondering truly happy here? She drew a deep breath, walked up, and pressed the doorbell.

But after a long wait, no one answered. Mandy frowned. Was everyone still asleep? She hesitated, then tried the door-and to her surprise, it swung open.

After a brief pause, she stepped inside. The aroma of breakfast greeted her as she walked through the foyer.

Reaching the kitchen doorway, Mandy spotted Claire busy at the stove.

Her eyes grew misty. She called out softly, "Claire."
