*Kyra*
Teiran sits on the edge of the bed, glaring atfrom across the room. He has said nothing since we walked
through the doors, and | am too afraid to bring anything up. It was always his plan to kill his father and take the
throne. But perhaps it happening this quickly, and
not entirely at his hands has him second guessing his loyalties.
He exhales deeply, placing both hands behind him as he leans back, his head falling so his face is gazing at the
ceiling.
"You caved so easily," he mutters the words, pain lacing his voice. My brows knit together as | frown.
"I never lied to you about my feelings for him." | remind him and he lets out a dry chuckle, one that doesn't find
any of this funny, but he has no other way to react but other to laugh through it all.
"You and | made a promise," He says, dropping his gaze to lock on me, pinningin place as guilt grips me.
"I hurt your feelings?" | ask him, and he frowns.
"Are you that dense, or have | been lacking in my actions and how | treat you?" He asks, a look of disbelief on his
face as he scoffs, looking away.
"Teiran, | am sorry | hurt you. But if | am being completely honest, did you expectto love you when the only
man who has always had a part ofis also the missing half of my soul?"
He looks away, his lips twitching, and | realize that he never intended to let Hayes live.
"Heavens..." | mutter, my chest aching at the thought.
He looks at me, then he leans forward, his elbows resting on his knees.
"Someone would have needed to take the fall." He whispers, but | hear every word as if he were saying it with a
resounding confidence.
"You were going to takefrom him and then frhim?" | ask, anger rising.

"It was not an easy decision forto make," He says, his eyes filled with pleading as I scoff and pace away from
him, laughing a sad, sarcastic laugh.
"You said this would end the war, that it would be better for everyone." | hiss at him.
"It will, but if you think the dragons would want their king's killer on the throne, then you are not using your
brains, Kyra." He retorts and | growl low in my chest.
"You want to be the hero but you're just like him, like your half mad, blood crazed father!"
He bolts up, rushing over toas he pushesinto the wall with his forearm across my chest.
"lI am not the hero!" He bites out in my face, his breath fanning over my face. "Here you are all angry with me
when your selfish mate claimed you as his own, ruining this chance at peace. You are upset withover my
tactics where | ruin one life and yet he very well could ruin hundreds of thousands and yet | am the bad guy?"
"He asked permission." | reach up, shoving at him, pushing him back a few inches before | stalk him down in
overwhelming anger. "Hayes askedif | wanted to be saved, and | said yes!"
My chest heaves up and down as | glare at him, his eyes skirting over my face as he seems to shrink before me.
Then he nods.
"Then you are the villain in this story." He whispers.
"A title | happily take as all my other options were stripped from me. It was idiotic forto think | could go
through with this, so moronic to even try. | am choosing him, Teiran." "You claim all your options were stripped,
but you agreed to this! You lived with me, laughed with me, what changed?"
"I didn't know he wanted me. But | know now, and | can't... | can't give him up ever again."
He arches a brow, a smirk growing on his lips.
"But you will give up Tiago?" He asks, and | press my lips together in annoyance.
"lI am choosing both."
"Not an option." He grins and | realize | see the real him for the first time. The part of him that is all dragon,
clinging to what he has deemed a treasure, and he refuses to give up.
"Wrong," | shrug. "It seems to me, as his imprinted mother, | have more power in this than you do."
A knock at the door interrupts us, but the tension in the room remains stifling as Teiran moves to the door and
pulls it open, speaking briefly with someone before he shuts the door again before he slams his fist into the door
in a rage. "Is it so wrong that all | wanted to do was care for you?" He finally whispers.
"You have done nothing but manipulate me." | remind him, and he frowns.
"You were almost perfect." He mutters to himself.
"And yet, to Hayes, | already am perfect. Can't you see how much of a difference that makes?" | ask, my
stomach twisting in pity as | watch his hand drag down his handsface.
"The ceremony is about to start. | will see you out there." He mutters before he exits the door, leavingalone
before a knock follows.
""Yes?" | ask.
"It's Luna Colette." | hear her say as she peeks around the door, givinga soft, genuine smile. "How are you
doing?"
"Oh, you know, never better." | shrug and she gives a gentle frown.
"Well, from what | hear, things will get worse before they get better, so how about we stir up strouble?" She
winks as she holds up a silk- handkerchief that matches the gold tone of my dress. "Rumor has it we have
something we need to cover for the tbeing."
Her presence calmsthe longer | am around her, and she seems to senserelaxing.
"How is Hayes?" | ask her as she steps closer, reaching around my neck and tying the handkerchief on. She
purses her lips together in thought, then she steps back and givesa nod.
"He is holding it together. | have the kids keeping him busy for now, though he did suggest they stay with Percy
in the pack house." | can see the worry in her eyes, but she hides it with a smile and reaches out, taking my
hand. "Why are you being so nice?" | ask her, "I mean...I know you are my Luna and we all love you, but | may be
the reason everything falls apart."
Colette laughs.
"I am being nice because | know and
like you. But
bam on your side
because you will be my sister. Kyra, things fall apart because the
Bene
foundation isn't sound. I have faith in what Merikh and I have built, and |
have faith in the moon goddess who gave you Hayes and a second chance." She says, walkingto the door.
Tears threaten my eyes as | try to control my breathing and stop from breaking down completely. | have not felt
at ease in so long, and yet with her reassuringit's okay, it actually feels like things will work out It's a pipe
dream, but one | am putting all my heart in, tog.
We walk hand in hand to the community building down the road. The large double door entrance is a stunning
display of greenery and glittering gold in honor of the dragons.
My heart skips a beat when | watch Hayes as he lingers outside until he catches sight of me. His face lights up
and he blowsa kiss before walking in before me. As we enter Merikh greets us, taking my arm and placing it
in the crux of his elbow.
"It seems weird to have you giveto them when your brother is my mate." | whisper to him, and he chuckles.
"I'm not giving these bastards shit," he says back before he tilts his head. "Well, | suppose, aside from damn
good entertainment."
"So, what is the plan?" | ask as we move down the long aisle, Teiran waiting forhalfway before the stage.
"That is up to you and Hayes," He shrugs. "But no matter what happens, you have the backing of all our kind."
My heart is in my ears, my stomach in my throat as | try to remain calm as Merikh passesoff to Teiran. His
warm hand engulfs mine as he walksto the stage, Tiago sitting at the front, cooing and reaching for me.
"Think about Tiago before you do this," Teiran whispers in my ear, his hand stroking a loose strand from my
cheek. "He needs his mother with him."
