Loving Mom 250

Chapter 250

Kelly stared at the black pill in Sharon's hand. A flicker of hesitation crossed her face.

Taking medicine when she wasn’t even sick-what if it messed up her body?

Nate, for once, had a rare flash of clarity. “Sharon, just because you say it’s life-saving medicine doesn’t make it

so. What if it’s poison? What if it actually hurts Kelly?”

He turned to Sharon, eyes sharp. “Why don’t you try it first? If it's fine, then Kelly can take it.”

Without a word, Sharon retracted the pill.

A cold laugh slipped from her lips. “What is this, the Middle Ages? We're still doing poison testing now? This is a

society governed by law. Poisoning someone is a crime. Do you really think Id kill her right in front of you?

“If anything does happen to her, the hospital would find out right away. Do you think I could just walk away from

that? If you don’t trust me, take the medicine to a lab. Run every test you want.”

She paused, eyes narrowed.

“Do you all really think I'm Kelly’s servant? That I'd test poison for her like it's nothing? Who do you think you're

insulting here? Take the damn pill or don’t-makes no difference to me. But if she gets worse because of your

indecision, that's on you. Don’t turn around and blme.”

Nate hadn't expected such a sharp reaction. He'd just been talking. But now Sharon was genuinely angry.

And if she walked away because of him, and Kelly missed her chance at getting better-then what? He'd be the

one everyone

blamed.

That was a burden he didn’t want.

Reflexively, he looked to Carter. “Carter, say something.”

A quiet irritation surfaced in Carter's eyes.

Nate really had a talent for stirring things up. No foresight, no sense. And how many messes had he cleaned up

for him already?

Any other time, Carter would've let him learn his lesson. But this involved Kelly. He had no choice but to step in.

“Nate was just joking,” he said quietly.

Sharon shot him a cold look.

“Is that your idea of a joke? This is medicine-serious medicine. People who aren't sick shouldn't just take it. You

of all people should know that, Carter. All medicine carries risk.”

She set the bottle down with a quiet finality. “Trust means not doubting, and if you doubt, don’t use me. If you

don’t believe in us, go find someone else. You already got Nate's letter of forgiveness, and you haven't paid that

100 million. You're not exactly suffering a loss here.”

Something clicked in her mind.

“Oh, | see now. That was the point, wasn't it? Treating Kelly was never the goal. You just wanted my letter of

forgiveness. That's the real plan, isn’t it?”

She turned to Kelly with a look of pity that cut more than it soothed. “And here | thought you meant something to

Carter and Nate. But clearly, that’s not the case. In the end, your place in their hearts doesn’t hold up against

their friendship.”

Even though Kelly knew Sharon was trying to provoke her, the words still landed. Uncomfortable emotions stirred

beneath the

surface

She knew Carter indulged Nate because he owed him his life.

But lately, Carter had felt distant. Different. And it was hard not to wonder.

Was Carter always so quick to help her because he truly cared? Or was it just because every tshe called, it

was through Nate's phone-and turning Nate down was harder? a

Sharon's words had planted a seed.

Carter recognized the intent in Sharon’s voice and frowned. “Sharon, don’t talk nonsense.”

But she only smiled faintly, saying nothing more.

She had just said it on a whim.

But judging by Kelly's face...she actually believed it.
