people walk out of the restaurant.

He saw Kate standing at the entrance, her expression tinged with quiet sadness.
For a second, he almost gave in to the urge. Then a young woman in her twenties walked up, calling cheerfully,

Instantly, Kate's sorrow vanished. Pure joy filled her face as she threw her arms around the girl.
Melvin saw the light in her eyes. The happiness of a complete family.
